... on my foot! Handknit and ready to wear!

This is the first hemp piece good enough to list.

Arkle's statue at Cheltenham Race-course gets a second crocheted anklet at the GreenBelt Festival

This anklet or child's necklet has an intricate design made up of many different coloured beads.

Xhosa people wear certain colours or types of beads to communicate their status within their society. For example, a particular type of waist belt worn in a certain way or with a particular amount of coloured beads will show if a young woman is married or unmarried, pre-pubescent or of childbearing age.

Designs also indicate life stages such as babyhood, initiation, marriage, motherhood, fatherhood, maturity and power. But colours and patterns of beadwork do not always have the same meanings, for each piece is unique.

Young women learn the craft from their mother or grandmothers. When they marry, many women travel to live with their husband’s family, taking their designs with them and creating hybrid styles. Can you think of another piece of jewellery that many people wear to show that they are married?

Crystals . Beads . Adjustable elastic yarn

Pattern: Pink Blossom Socks

Designer: Baerbel Hoppe-Abe

Source: Not available yet

Yarn: Creative Monkey Creations Panda Toes-Tropical Something (65% Superwash Merino Wool, 35% Bamboo Rayon)

Needles: Cast-on & cuff-2.5mm (US 1.5), everything else-2.0mm (US 0)

Comments: I saw this sock on Ravelry and was smitten by the unique design of the cuff. The designer graciously shared her unpublished pattern with me--Thanks Baerbel I didn't have the perfect yarn in my stash for this pattern so I went hunting online and found just what I needed at Creative Monkey Creations on Etsy. I love the feel of this bamboo blend and you can't beat the price point. Thanks Monkey!

Details: The sock is worked over 72 sts at a suggested ga. of 7.5 st/"; however, I deliberately chose a lt fingering wt yarn knit at 9 st/". The photo doesn't show the rows of lace faggoting which run the length of the heel flap and down the top of the foot. The lace gives the sock great stretch.

Anklets worn by shadow puppeteers during a performance. A traditional shadow puppet performance from Kerala is called Tolpavakoothu. Leather-made puppets are placed in front of a white screen, while being lit by lamps placed in a row on the other side of the screen. Musicians and puppeteers stand backstage and maneouver the puppets with the aid of sticks attached to the slim leather figures.

Extra sock yarn from another project prompted the design of this pair of socks.

Anklet my boyfriend bought me for Christmas. I never take it off & everytime I look down at it, I think about him. <3
