From the bus - this animated conversation caught my attention. One from the archive that's been kicking around and is maskless - remember that?
My favorite time to be on the beach is when the tide is coming in. Bulging waves roll up further and further, until they overtake the dry sand. They bring with them treasures from the deep. It’s exciting when the ocean leans forward to say hello, as it were.
Contrary to every instinct, we spend most of our modern lives trapped in square boxes, whether in vehicles or buildings, and also in mental boxes, and we languish in our prison of stasis. There, we obsess about power struggles. Could it be because we have cut ourselves off from the experience of nature’s power?
The tide is coming in. Plump waves are rolling up the beach. Tidda responds. She becomes animated. She feels the spirit of the sea rising and we both feel the energy. The breath of life enters us. My mood lifts. I laugh and feel playful. We have stepped into nature’s flow of power. When the tide rises, all rise together. When it sinks, all sink together.

This is buzz track, an alignment film for 35mm optical soundheads. Each toothed pattern on the sides of the black stripe produces a square wave, which appears as a sharp buzzing noise when played through speakers. (By the way, playing a square wave through a speaker, except at a very low volume, is an excellent way to destroy it.) An oscilloscope is recommended instead of speakers for the task.
The track is spaced so that when the soundhead's lateral (left/right) guide roller is adjusted properly, neither track should be picked up. A higher-pitched buzz (and, possibly, a motorboat-like sound from the sprocket holes) will occur if the film is guided too far leftward; too far to the right, a lower-pitched buzz will be generated.

In all of Sunset Park this was the only gosling I found, just the one. I ran into someone that said there was 4 of them yesterday. Now I see the danger in being the first to have chicks.

Piazza della Signoria is an L-shaped square in front of the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, Italy. It was named after the Palazzo della Signoria, also called Palazzo Vecchio.
It is the focal point of the origin and of the history of the Florentine Republic and still maintains its reputation as the political hub of the city. It is the meeting place of Florentines as well as the numerous tourists, located near Ponte Vecchio and Piazza del Duomo and gateway to Uffizi Gallery.

This sign will be taken down tomorrow. The new(ish) owners of Great Plains Auto Body have tired of maintaining this animated neon icon. They are donating it to the Durham Western Heritage Museum, so at least it will be saved. It used to be across the way on a facade dating back to the 1930s. The second image shows a bit of a nod to that facade. Last time I drove by, there was at least one section out, maybe two. Leavenworth Street used to have four iconic neon signs. When this one goes, it'll be down to two.
