This theater marquee is in Guadalupe, CA. I took it with my Android phone using an app called Old Roll.
We came cross this beautiful church while we were in Rutland, Vermont. It looks as if it came out of a fairy tale.

Anyone who has been to the QMC Nottingham will recognise the spiral staircase and outer ramp leading up to B Floor. Gotta love the geometric shape. There must have been hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people use it over the years. Long may it continue.

I was fascinated by this art decoration of paper butterflies hanging from the ceiling at the Crate & Barrel store in Walnut Creek. I actually took this shot with colors. It came out just like monochrome.
Ash Tree Seeds (Fraxinus excelsior).
Ash is one of the most common trees in the UK. When fully grown, ash trees can reach a height of 35m. Tall and graceful, they often grow together, forming a domed canopy. The bark is pale brown to grey and fissures as the tree ages.
Ash is dioecious, meaning that male and female flowers typically grow on different trees, although a single tree can also have male and female flowers on different branches. Both male and female flowers are purple and appear before the leaves in spring, growing in spiked clusters at the tips of twigs.
Once the female flowers have been pollinated by wind, they develop into conspicuous winged fruits, or 'keys', in late summer and autumn. They fall from the tree in winter and early spring, and are dispersed by birds and mammals.

We stopped by Fort Knox Historic State Park on our way back from Acadia National Park. The entrance fee also covered the admission to the towering observatory of the nearby Penobscot Narrows Bridge.
Ash Tree Seeds (Fraxinus excelsior).
Bunches of keys can be removed from branches in October, or even throughout the winter, before they are dispersed by the wind. Simply pull them gently from the tree with your fingers.
If you have picked green keys (or even those that have begun to turn brown) take care to store them in ‘breathable’ bags. They still have a high moisture content, which can cause the seeds to heat up if they don’t have adequate ventilation.

The Astoria Theater, now home to a New York Sports Club gym, began as a vaudeville theater in November, 1920, on the corner of Steinway Street and 30th Avenue. Within three years it was converted into a 2,900-seat movie palace. The Astoria Theater underwent two splits—divided into four theaters in 1977, with two more screens added in 1981—to become the more modern UA Astoria Sixplex, which closed on Dec. 26, 2001. The remains of the marquee and façade are still visible.

This afternoon while I was walking along Second Avenue, in the Kips Bay neighborhood of Manhattan, I took notice of this window on the opposite side of the avenue and felt this overwhelming need to photograph it. Impromptu inspiration many times materializes like magic, out of thin air. And whenever it does, I feel a short-term emotional connection with the subject. It's such a dynamic feeling, and one that I have not experienced since before I underwent chemotherapy treatments last Summer.
My treatments concluded in early October, and yesterday with the window was a clear indicator of how my overall healing is progressing in the right direction. if anything, this experience has certainly taught me to become more focused on stuff, and to slow down and not to get manic over anything. Essentially, take it easy, Newell. You're going to be fine

History of the site:
After 40 years in business the Neptune Diner located in Astoria, Queens, NYC served its last meal on Sunday, July 29. 2024. The owners claimed they were not given a chance to renew their lease, because the property will soon be turned into a residential building.
Since 1983, The Katsihtis brothers have owned the building on Astoria Boulevard but not the land, which was sold in 2018 for over $10 million.
The brothers also had a 35-year lease which expired in 2019. But since then, they were not able to come to a long-term agreement with the landlord.

But that's what Long Island City/Astoria needs is another apartment building. It's already so overbuilt, it's ridiculous. Yet they keep tearing them down and building new ones, many of which are luxury rentals. The neighborhood is losing its character to steel and glass.

It's actually more fun watching the crowd than watching Firefall for me this year. The excitement and anticipation were slowly building up and in the end we were all slightly disappointed. For some, it was their first time and thought the faint red on Horsetail Falls was spectacular. Some photogs even got there early in the morning to claim their spots while missing other offerings in the valley. I think the best way is to bring a bike if you can. Park your car at a spot near the Firewall viewing area and bike around the valley until the viewing time comes. Over the years, I have found biking is the most enjoyable experience in Yosemite.

My hunch paid off as this structure was completely torn down. I've been photographing the back of the building, as the front faces a police station, and not many people understand why I photograph construction. Several times I've been asked if I was an insurance surveyor. That one makes sense, as many times I'm dressed from work. No, just a hobbyist photographer. Essentially it's my documenting the pre/post gentrification of my neighborhood

The iconic Silvercup Studios sign in Long Island City was "webbed up" as part of a massive Marvel promotion for the upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This Spider-Man-themed spectacular included a towering light show above the Queens skyline and is viewable through July 19, 2026

Silvercup Studios is NYC’s largest independent film and television production facility. Founded in 1983, it features 23 sound stages across two Long Island City lots and one Bronx lot. The iconic 1939 neon bread sign sits atop its LIC headquarters, acting as a protected industrial landmark.
The studio spans over 550,000 square feet and is famous for producing hit shows like The Sopranos, Sex and the City, and 30 Rock. Each lot features drive-in access, mill shops, and on-site lighting/grip equipment.
