This special kind of Water Lily has the scientific name of Victoria Amazonica.

It is an aquatic plant of the Nymphaeaceae family, typical of the Amazon region. It has a large circle-shaped leaf that sits on the surface of the water, and can reach up to 2.5 meters in diameter and can withstand up to 40 kilos if well distributed on its surface.

What united us as true sisters were the honor, the truth, the strength of the fight against falsehood, charming words from those who want to deceive, steal, lie or look at us like meat in the butcher's shop. Each of us has a brother who shares the same principles: equality, friendship, trust, honesty, loyalty.

At Pantanal, Mato Grosso, Brasil - Male - The Amazon Kingfisher is a resident of lakeshores and large-slow flowing rivers from northern Mexico south to central Argentina. They are large dark bronzy green birds with a ragged crest, a white throat and collar, and a white belly; the breast of the male is rufous, while the female has a narrower green breastband. Amazon Kingfishers are superficially similar to the Green Kingfisher Chloroceryle americana, but are much larger with a heavier bill, and typically forage from more conspicuous perches. Amazon Kingfishers hunt fish and crustaceans from a perch, diving into the water to catch their prey and then returning to the same perch before stunning their prey and swallowing it head first. These kingfishers also occasionally hover above the water before diving to catch prey. The nests are excavated by making tunnels into road cuts or erosion gullies near water.

Wishing everyone a Peaceful Bokeh Wednesday!

A marvelous pastel sunset over the muddy waters of the Amazon due in part to dust sediments in the sky stemming from the severe drought affecting the region and the prevailing windy conditions.

It seems that kingfishers are much more approachable by boat than they are on foot. This beautiful Amazon Kingfisher gave us front and back views as we drifted closer and closer until we were so close I couldn’t fit the bird in the photo. I love it when they show off their massive beak like this, the spots under the tail were and extra bonus. Now if I could just find such an accommodating Belted Kingfisher…

Other than size, the amazon and green kingfishers are very similar indeed. the amazon carries its crest more prominently and white wing spots only visible in flight.

Chloroceryle amazona

Lucky to get, out of about 25 attempts, two fairly decent, almost focused, bigly cropped, shots of this bird as he kept ahead of us in our bobbing zodiac on the Penas Blancas river

Arguably the longest river in the world, the Amazon meanders its way from the towering Andes in Peru to the sweeping coastline of Brazil, where it empties into the vast Atlantic Ocean. The Amazon River and its tributaries is located in Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, and Brazil. The entire river measures over 4,000 miles from its source to the river mouth. However, the exact length of the Amazon is arguable as the location of its start and end points have both been disputed historically. The Amazon River is currently alleged to be 6,992 kilometers long.*
