"The beauty of a woman
isn’t in the clothes she wears,
The figure that she carries,
or the way she combs her hair.
The beauty of a woman
must be seen from in her eyes;
Because that’s the doorway to her heart,
the place where love resides.
The beauty of a woman
isn’t in a facial mole;
But true beauty in a woman,
is reflected by her soul.
It’s the caring that she cares to give,
the passion that she shows;
And the beauty of a woman
with passing years only grows."

Torii gate of Togakushi Okusha shrine. The main shrine is located on the slope of Togakushi mountains 2 km to the west.
The name of the enshrined god is, officially, Ameno Tajikaraono Mikoto (天之手力男神), a macho man who opened the rock door and pulled the sun goddess Amaterasu out of the cave to provoke the sunrise. Kuzuryuu shrine is attached to the main shrine, which is supposed to be the original god of Togakushi.
The board at the foot of the Torii gate writes that "Okusha is closed for winter." Sanctuary forest of Okusha is primeval except for the cedar trees planted along the approach to the Okusha shrine.
Togakushi Chuusha (戸隠中社) enshrines Amenoyagokoro-omoikaneno-mikoto (天八意思兼命), a god of music with a ridiculously long name. Togakkushi is worshipped as the site of Amano-iwato (天岩戸), a myth recorded in the history books in 8th century, which is as follows.
Amaterasu (天照大神) was the sun goddess in the pantheon who had a nasty brother called Susanoo (素戔嗚尊). One day, she got very mad at Susanoo, and locked herself in a cave with a rock door (Amano-iwato), which stopped the sun to rise.
Gods in the pantheon planned an operation to save the world. They held a bacchanalia just in front of the rock door dancing and playing loud music to attract Amaterasu's attention. When she peeked through a crack in the door, a brawny god grabbed the crack, forcibly opened the door and got her out of the cave, thereby resuming the sunrise.
Amenoyagokoro was the music director of the bacchanalia.
Amaterasu is claimed to be the ancestor of the current imperial family. She is enshrined in the Ise Jinguu shrine (伊勢神宮) in Mie prefecture.
Japanese national flag of rising sun is based on this myth.
Similar myths exist among ethnic minorities in southern China and Southeast Asia.
Togakushi can be roughly translated to "hiding behind the door."

This Shinto shrine has a rather modern feel to it - the torii is made of concrete, and the main building is situated on top of a parking garage! But it has a long history, it was actually founded in 1005, making it one of the oldest Shinto shrines in Tokyo, and is dedicated to the two main gods of the famous Ise Daijingu: Amaterasu and Toyoukeno. Today the shrine is popular for weddings and its 11-days long festival in September.

A this is a “yatagarasu", a mythical black bird that is a messenger for the sun god Amaterasu in Japanese mythology. Here it is a good luck symbol at Kumano Koutai Shrine on the border of Nagano and Gunma prefectures. The three=legged bird is also the symbol the Japanese National Soccer Team.
Karuizawa, Nagano, Japan.
Happy New Year 2022 Tiger!
Winter ends and the new year begins with Spring. All Asian countries celebrate this event with respect to Gods and traditions. My inspiration was taken from the goddess Amaterasu and the gorgeous kimono from Silvery K, headpice details from Antaya&Shanghai and the radiant sunny and snowy décor from Fantasy Illumination.
Thank you and blessings!

Izumo Taisha is located at the foot of a mountain that used to be an off-shore island that is connected to the main island with tombolos. Oisebana (追石鼻), which is located 7 km northeast of Izumo Taisha, is the western end of the land-tied island jutting into the Sea of Japan.
Izumo City with Izumo Taisha has been perceived as the place of sunset as paired with Ise City with Ise Jinguu to the east as the place of sunrise.
While Ise Jinguu is dedicated to Amaterasu Oomikami (天照大神) who is the goddess of the sun and also the ancestor of the current imperial family now housed in Koukyo (皇居) in Tokyo, Izumo Taisha is dedicated to Ookuninushi-no-Mikoto (大国主命) who is a descendant of Susano'o (素戔嗚), a naughty brother of Amaterasu.
Izumo is a place for many episodes of Japanese mythology, in which Susano'o or Ookuninushi are protagonists.
Izumo used to be an independent political entity that was annexed later into the territory of Yamato Dynasty.
Some argues that Susano'o and Ookuninushi are alternative names of a same god, and Susano'o being a brother of Ameterasu is a political creation.

Kaminomiya shrine (上の宮 upper shrine) of Hinomisaki Jinja (shrine complex). Hinomisaki means the cape of the sun, and the shrine is built to face the setting sun.
It enshrines Susano’o, a naughty brother of Goddess Amaterasu. According to the imperial mythology, he was exiled to Izumo after a mischief that made his elder sister mad.
He did many good things after coming to Izumo and worshipped as a local hero. He is often confused with Ookuninushi-no-Mikoto enshrined in Izumo Taisha. Some people argue that the two gods are identical.
Susano’o is the most well-known for slaying Yamata-no-Orochi, a dragon that had demanded human sacrifice.
Close-up of the building that looks like a donjon, which is called Fushimi-yagura turret. It was so named as it was moved from now demolished Fushimi Castle in Kyoto.
Imperial Palace is located just behind Fushimi-yagura.
Edo Castle is now officially called Koukyo (皇居 imperial residence), and public access to this part of Koukyo is strictly restricted.
The family members of Emperor are the current residents of former Edo Castle. Ten'nou (天皇 celestial emperor) as we call him (many Japanese people do not know his given name) and translated to Emperor in English is the hereditary monarch and head of state of Japan. He is defined by the Constitution of Japan as the symbol of Japanese state and the unity of Japanese people.
Ten'nou is known to be the oldest monarch in the world dating back probably to the 6th or 7th century A.D. Official chronicle/mythology claims the monarch was founded as old as 660 B.C., which is not supported by archaeologists. As such, Japan does not have an independence day.
His current status is defined according to the constitutional monarch model of Europe but there are many oddities if compared with the European counterparts.
He is strictly separated from politics. He is not allowed to comment on politics and even does not have the right to vote. He may be closer to Pope rather than kings and queens due to his symbolic role in Shintoism. He is believed to be a descendant of Shinto Goddess Amaterasu Oomikami and had been regarded as a living god (現人神) before WW II. In that sense, he may be like a lifetime Kumari Devi.
He is translated to Emperor because the word meaning king (王) in East Asia assumes a local ruler in the Chinese feudal system, to which Japan has never belonged.

Tengu (Japanese: 天狗, lit. "Heavenly Dog" or "Heavenly Sentinel") are a type of legendary creature found in Japanese folk religion. They are considered a type of yōkai (supernatural beings) or Shinto kami (gods). The tengu were originally thought to take the forms of birds of prey and monkey deity, they are traditionally depicted with human, monkey and avian characteristics. Sarutahiko Ōkami is considered to be the original model of Konoha-Tengu (a long-nosed supernatural creature with red face), which today is widely considered the tengu's defining characteristic in the popular imagination. He is the Shinto monkey deity who sheds light on heaven and earth, some experts theorize that Sarutahiko was a sun god worshiped in Ise region prior to the popularization of Amaterasu.
Buddhism long held that the tengu were disruptive demons and harbingers of war. Their image gradually softened, however, into one of protective and even manifestations of buddhist deities, if still dangerous, spirits of the mountains and forests. Tengu are associated with the ascetic practice of Shugendō, and they are usually depicted in the garb of its followers, the yamabushi.
