We used Google Maps extensively on our recent western state's road trip. The application gives you the main route and also offers a couple of alternative routes. Believe it or not, this dirt road was one of the alternative routes offered. I'm glad we took it.

The sun set to the right and behind a ridge not visible in this scene. However, on this occasion, as it dipped below the horizon, the brilliant reds reflected on the clouds above us and again in the water below - making it a lovely alternative to the actual sunset itself.

Another of my favourite birds, ever since my first visit to the Hawk Conservancy in 1991.

Found in the Americas (mainly southern) they're ground foraging birds. The half coconut shell behind him is place where they put their food for them to forage for and find.

The oldest recorded living caracara was found in Florida aged 21 years, having been ringed 21 years previously.

The Hawk Conservancy does a lot of conservation work around the world, helping to keep alive many species of birds.
