Puente Romano ( Roman Bridge ) - the iconic symbol of Asturias in the town of Cangas de Onis, the first capital of Asturias and the gateway to the eastern part of the Picos de Europa mountain range.
The bridge was originally built by the Romans, but what we now can see dates from the 13th century. The cross hanging from the middle arch is a replica of the famous Cruz de la Victoria (Victory Cross), the official symbol of Asturias that celebrates the victory of King Pelayo over the Moors in the Battle of Covadonga in 722.

Die Welt des Geistes ist daher nicht existent, wenn sich für sich selbst bestehend gedacht wird; sie kann nur existieren in Relation zu einer Welt des Unterschieds.

My feet skipped happily in the warm mediterranean waters just to the south of Hammamet, Tunisia, and then I plodded across a stretch of sand to look at the ruins of Pupput (inset, top right), relatively recently excavated when the site was found during hotel development. On my way I saw a gray-green patch of Sea Lilies, Pancratium maritimum. The name 'pancratium' derives from the strength of these lilies in surviving in the harsh seaside climate of Tunisia. Those ruins of Pupput are not busily visited and I had the area entirely to myself.
Pupput's origins are obscure, but in Late Antiquity the town became a colonia of the Roman Empire. In its pre-christian times there may have been pancratium competitions here featuring a kind of 'all-strengths' wrestling and boxing combo. Those games were outlawed by the christian Emperor Theodosius in 393 CE. It may well have been around this time that Pupputians were christianised. I noticed a Chi-Rho mosaic (inset bottom right). That so-called 'chrismon', featuring superimposed on each other a capital Greek Chi and Rho - the first letters of 'Christ' in Greek - is said by Lactantius (c.250-c.325) to have been Constantine the Great's battle sign. But this one here in Pupput is slightly different: it also features an alpha and an omega. This version of the Chi-Rho was used by Ambrose of Milan (c.340-397) as a didactic help for catechumens on their way to full christendom. That means that probably Pupput became a Christian city at the end of the fourth century and not earlier.
This Chi-Rho is part of the tombstone inscription of father Honorius (aged 80), his wife Maura (aged 90[!]) and their son Honorius (aged 60). It was discovered in the ruins of a Pupput church from Antiquity hastily excavated after 1965 to make way for the construction of a high-end hotel, ironically called: Paradis.
No, Theodosius didn't also outlaw our Sea Lily. Perhaps the denizens of Pupput put them in pots like the one in the mosaic (inset left)...

Spent some time with the Alpha Omega Nissan GTR built by AMS Performance today downtown Chicago. This car currently holds the world record 1/4 mile time at 7.98 seconds and 186MPH with roughly 2000HP on tap, hence the presence of a parachute.

But does not apply to the Buddhist logic of identity, because this does not necessarily mean a denial is a denial, nor an affirmation of affirmation, on the contrary, the affirmation is a negation and the negation of an affirmation.
This does not mean that the negative contains an affirmation of what a logician might conclude from this, because for the Buddhists, there is no such co-containedness nor any ambiguity, but this statement is entirely meant even straightforwardly and directly.
We can call it a logic of identity in which there are neither one nor oneness, a synthesis.
Here is an example of the correctness of this logic: When a Zen master aussteckt his hand and asks:>> Why it is called a hand? <> Try this once, my friend, it is delicious. <<
This is an example of a distinction of non-distinction.
Aber in buddhistischer Sicht ist die Welt des Nicht-Unterschieds nichts Relatives, sondern etwas Absolutes; sie ist die eine absolute Welt, die durch sich selbst existiert und keinens Relativen zu ihrer Stütze bedarf.
Wir mögen uns fragen, ob solche eine Existenz für den menschlichen Geist überhaupt fassbar ist, Nein, verstandesmäßig nicht.
Daher der paradoxe Ausdruck Unterschied des Nicht-Unterschieds und Unterscheidung der Nicht-Unterscheidung oder, es umkehrend, der Nicht-Unterschied des Unterschieds und die Nicht-Unterscheidung der Unterscheidung.

Das heißt nicht, dass die Verneinung eine Bejahung enthält, was ein Logiker daraus schließen könnte, denn für die Buddhisten gibt es kein derartiges Mitenthaltensein, noch irgendeine Mehrdeutigkeit, sondern diese Feststellung ist ganz und gar geradehin und direkt gemeint.
Wir können das eine Logik der Identität nennen, bei der es sich weder um eine Einswerdung noch eine Synthese handelt.
