"A further step in the evolution of logging techniques occurred when the first trucks were introduced in the 1930s. At first they merely replaced horses as pullers of the traditional log sleighs. Only in the 1940s did trucks become big and powerful enough to actually carry logs themselves."
Alligator: a steam-powered warping tug, used to tow log booms down a lake. The 20 HP engine couldn't actually tow the log booms, so they steamed ahead (using the paddle-wheels), dropped anchor, let out the line and went back to the logs. Then they unhooked the paddle wheels, hooked up the winch, and hauled the boat and logs up to the anchor. (Or vice versa, anchoring and winching the logs up to the boat.) Repeat several times, because the lake is much longer than the winching cable. They were also amphibious, using the winch to haul the boat over land.
There's an article about them here, and Tom Thompson painted one.

The William M, an alligator boat, at the Algonquin Logging Museum. These steam-powered boats were used to tow log booms across lakes. They were also able to winch themselves across land, allowing them to move from one lake to another.
The alligator boat was invented by the firm of West and Peachy, of Simcoe, Ontario. About 200 of the boats were built between 1889 and the 1930s, when they were superseded by gasoline-powered tugboats. The William M was built in 1905 and remained in operation until 1946. It was moved to the Algonquin Logging Museum in 1959.

There was a railway in Algonquin from 1896 to 1995. During the First World War, it was the busiest railway in Canada, with trains leaving every 20 minutes.
This "Saddleback" engine was built in Montreal in 1911. It first burned wood and then was converted to coal.
