I used to be disgusted by this slimy, seemingly insignificant plant until I saw its delicate branches and learned about its immensely nourishing role in nature
While my fiance played golf with strangers, I amused myself by snapping photos--such as this image of a tree (I know, a big ol' cliche) reflected in water. But I think the algae lends an impressionistic effect... Notice the ducks (at large size viewing).
Terrestrial algae. Nostoc is a genus of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) that swells up when wet, but is much less visible when dry. Various colloquial names e.g. star jelly, witch butter.
Some kind of green alga forming a wet slime. Amongst mosses on a damp wall in the Hermitage of Braid, Edinburgh.
