Something Yellow .

Well I knew of a yellow something - a car I have photographed before , and as there were only about 30 made I reckoned it was worth a return visit and this time with a more selective view of the yellow beast !!

The Dax Kamala - a kit car based on Ford parts and a Ford Cosworth engine . As best I can find out The Dax Kamala dates from around 1996 and with the Cosworth engine would accelerate 0 to 60 in 3.9 seconds and go on up to 160 mph .

Parts are predominantly ford so cost and availability are assured. The chassis can take the full range of Ford engines - ultimately a stage III race tuned 350bhp Cosworth engine mated with a lightly modified Ford MTX75 gearbox. All within a modern and rigid Triangulated space frame chassis which is both bonded and rivited to an aluminium floor pan. The car blasts from rest to 60mph in a paltry 3.9 seconds (Ferrari F50 Territory) and will still return a respectable 20-30 mpg if driven carefully!

Total build Cost: around £15,000 + your time to assemble.

Not something I expected to see or have ever seen before and considering there was only 30 or so kits ever produced , I am not surprised !!

For a fuller view take a look in the first comment box to see it in as a colour popped image .

So for Sight & Sound something particularly Yellow from Frank Zappa ------

A nice red sunrise this morning and the silhouette of the water front viewing building made for an interesting vocal point with the air intakes and glass roof domes.

Some very creative people out there. This Rat Rod crafted an old Electrolux vacuum as an air intake. It did make me laugh and admire the owners creativity. This Rat Rod appeared at the 35 Ol' Marais River Run car show held at Forrest Park in Ottawa Kansas.

How'd you like to work on this? Doesn't look like you'd get your hands dirty, but you sure better know what you are doing.

I'm guessing that this is the air intake which sits over the intake manifold. With many engines, this would be where the air cleaner would be, but I find it difficul to believe the cleaner is in or under the red parts. Note how the word "Ferrari" is imp;rinted on what looks to be the radiator cap and that the word is perfectly parallel with the front of the car is. There is no overlooked detail.

start preparation

This aircraft, XP 831, is the first prototype of the Hawker P.1127. The experimental flying done with it proved the practicality of a new method of flight and led directly to the successful Harrier series.

Following WWII, the new power of the jet engine suggested that aircraft could be designed to take off and land vertically using engine thrust alone. Various ideas were tried, including the use of separate downward-pointing lift engines in addition to the main engine used for forward flight. Most of these designs were too complex or too difficult to fly.

The system used on the P.1127 is simpler, relying on a single powerful jet engine with four swivelling (vectoring) nozzles. For take-off and hovering the aircraft is, in effect, supported on four stable 'legs' of thrust.

With this aircraft the test pilot, Bill Bedford, performed the crucial trials in the programme. From October 1960 hovering trials were conducted to refine the control system. In September 1961 the transition from hovering (jet-borne) to conventional wing-borne flight was achieved. Later Bedford showed that the transition from wing-borne forward flight back to a stationary hover could also be performed stably and safely.

The aircraft's engine is a single Bristol-Siddeley Pegasus vectored-thrust turban with an initial 11,000-lb thrust. An example can be seen above on the floor beneath the aircraft.

The aircraft is on loan from the RAF Museum at Hendon and seen in the Flight display of the Science Museum in South Kensington, London.

ABOUT CAMILO PARDO

Born in New York city, Camilo moved to Detroit at the age of 10 and had by that age developed a fascination with 60s and 70s era sports cars and modern art. After graduating from Detroit’s prestigious design school Center for Creative Studies in 1985, Camilo was hired by Ford Design Center in Dearborn Michigan. His assignments included working in the Dearborn Advanced Studios, Ford of Europe- Torino, Italy Studio , and the Design Studios in Cologne Germany. After 15 years at Ford Motor Company, he took on what was for him the ultimate assignment... a state of the art re-design of the classic Ford GT race car. This project developed the 2002 Ford GT concept car.

As chief Designer of the Ford GT and the SVT Studio, Camilo’s team worked on the 2005 and 2006 production Ford GT . The GT became an instant success capturing the interest of car enthusiasts around the world.

At the end of the work day at Ford, Camilo continued to explore an additional avenues of art & design. With the integration of Design principles and the abstractions of Fine Art, Camilo explores alternative design solutions.

This work is created in his studios, located in the city of Detroit and Los Angeles. His studios has been the scene of more than a few of Detroit’s openings and receptions. For the last 15 years, his studio has hosted the Detroit Auto’s Designers’ Night. An internationally recognized event which is attended by top automotive personnel and designers from all over the world. The North American International Auto Show has included Designer’s Night as a recognized NAIAS event appearing in all NAIAS publications.

By evening, Camilo is a serious, multifaceted artist with incomparable creative energy. This creativity is evident in his large, brightly colored oil paintings on canvas. This includes a large production of Automotive Fine Art. The same quality of creativity reaches a line of fashion design, that he describes as advanced fashion concepts. These fashion pieces have been created

for auto shows and runway exhibits. Camilo’s industrial design reaches into sculptural furniture design, that has made the rounds from main art galleries in Metro Detroit, Italy, Japan, and the Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York.

As a dedicated artist who sets no limits on his creative endeavors, Camilo has found that his outside artistic expressions further strengthen and complements his passion for automotive design.

Presented in Sept. 1966 this was GM's answer to the unprecedented succes of the Ford Mustang, and the successor of the Corvair. It came also available as a Rally Sport version and as a Convertible.

I found this rare car on the back yard of a holiday house, just behind the fence. I made these pics through the holes in it...
