Lightning strikes the Huachuca Mountains on Ft. Huachuca during a monsoon thunderstorm.

Hey guys! So I've been very busy teaching for the past month and a bit, which is why I haven't had a lot of time to go out and take photos. But, thankfully I'm on school holidays now! I'm a week in and pretty much have been taking it easy by relaxing, catching up with all of my tv shows (specifically, crying my eyes out to the last season of Parenthood - shh no spoilers please) and hanging out with friends and family. I have made somewhat of a half spontaneous decision to go on my first solo overseas experience. I'm very lucky to have some wonderful family and friends waiting for me on the other side, but the journey over there will be solo and I'm going to be honest - I'm quite nervous about it all. But, I think the timing is right and I'm very excited to be returning to Italy (a place I haven't been to since I was 11) and one of my favourite places in the world - New York. I'll be taking lots of pictures, so keep an eye out for those. The best place to follow me is Instagram. I try to post daily over there. But, Flickr as always, is the first place where you'll see new work.

This particular photo was taken back in April on a wonderful evening trip to the park with Dad and my dog, Lucy. We often cross this bridge and I've always wanted to use it for a photo. The sunset was absolutely stunning and I just had to capture it. I hope you're all well, thank you for those who always leave me thoughtful comments. Please know that I read every single one.

Downtown Dubai, United Arab Emirates

On the way home from shooting along the Washington side of the Columbia River, I stopped at a place called Steamboat Landing. I have been wanting to visit this spot for awhile now after seeing some photos from fellow flickr member M_ Abinante. If you haven't seen his work yet, I encourage you to stop by an take a look :)

The color in the sky was barely visible with my eyes, but the long exposure really captured it nicely. This was taken well after the sun had already set, and most people would already have packed up and been driving home. I learned about this mostly invisible color from looking at photographs by much better photographers than myself. Luckily enough, they also gave some insight into their technique. You really only get one shot at this (as it doesn't last long), and you have to nail the exposure the first time around. The next shot after this, the color was gone. For this one I just got lucky :)

another winter afternoon in Bari. Feb '14

Sometimes, in the wee hours of the morning, I find myself in memories. I find myself walking down streets that I can no longer travel. It’s so keen the memory that I feel as if I just zoomed in. Perhaps it’s just a hunger for the old life and freedoms I had. Which at the time I didn’t take as freedoms. Second Avenue, Lexington Ave, 86th Street, the Bronx. Yankee Stadium, the very old and the very new, new. Brighton Beach; being able to dance in the dark along the shore. Candy apples and clams. Now, none of that is home. I don’t belong there anymore. New memories are being formed. My feet will have to fall in love with Folly Beach. That I will do.
