Castel del Monte is a 13th-century citadel and castle situated on a hill in the Apulia region of southeast Italy. It was built during the 1240s by the Emperor Frederick II (Stupor mundi) , who had inherited the lands from his mother Constance of Sicily.
In the 18th century, the castle's interior marbles and remaining furnishings were removed. It has neither a moat nor a drawbridge and some considered it never to have been intended as a defensive fortress; however, archaeological work has suggested that it originally had a curtain wall.
Described by the Enciclopedia Italiana as "the most fascinating castle built by Frederick II", the site is protected as a World Heritage Site.
Because of its relatively small size, it was once considered to be no more than a "hunting lodge", but scholars now believe it originally had a curtain wall and did serve as a citadel. Frederick was responsible for the construction of many castles in Apulia, but Castel del Monte's geometric design was unique. The fortress is an octagonal prism with an octagonal tower at each corner. The towers were originally some 5 m higher than now, and they should perhaps include a third floor. Both floors have eight rooms and an eight-sided courtyard occupies the castle's centre. Each of the main rooms has vaulted ceilings. Three of the corner towers contain staircases. The castle has two entrances, an unobtrusive service entrance and an ornate main entrance. Frederick's main entrance featured elements from classical design, and may have been influenced by Frederick's interest in Greco-Roman architecture.
The octagonal plan is unusual in castle design. Historians have debated the purpose of the building and it has been suggested that it was intended as a hunting lodge. Another theory is that the octagon is an intermediate symbol between a square (representing the earth) and a circle (representing the sky). Frederick II may have been inspired to build to this shape by either the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem, which he had seen during the Sixth Crusade, or by the Palace Chapel of Aachen Cathedral.
Occasionally used as a hunting lodge under Manfred of Sicily, the castle become a state prison under the latter's victor, Charles I of Anjou: here Manfred's sons Henry, Azzo and Enzo were kept as prisoner after 1266, as well as other Hohenstaufen supporters.
The main wall is 25 m high and the eight bastions each 26 m. The sides of the main octagon are 16.5 m long and those of the octagonal towers each 3.1 m. The castle has a diameter of 56 m. Its main entrance faces east.
Central to the plot of Umberto Eco's novel The Name of the Rose is an old fortress known as the 'Aedificium'. This was almost certainly inspired by Castel del Monte. It was also the set for the film Tale of Tales.

L'origine dell'edificio si colloca al 29 gennaio 1240, quando Federico II Hohenstaufen ordinò a Riccardo da Montefuscolo, Giustiziere di Capitanata, che venissero predisposti i materiali e tutto il necessario per la costruzione di un castello presso la chiesa di Sancta Maria de Monte (oggi scomparsa).
L'edificio, oltre a essere un esempio di costruzione ancora oggi studiato per la sua stabilità pur se costruito senza fondamenta, è carico di simbolismi che hanno appassionato numerosi studiosi.
L'ottagono su cui è basata la pianta del complesso e dei suoi elementi è una forma geometrica fortemente simbolica: si tratta della figura intermedia tra il quadrato, simbolo della terra, e il cerchio, che rappresenta l'infinità del cielo, e quindi segnerebbe il collegamento e il passaggio dell'uno all'altro. La scelta dell'ottagono potrebbe derivare dalla Cupola della Roccia a Gerusalemme, che Federico II aveva visto durante la sesta crociata, o dalla Cappella Palatina di Aquisgrana.
L'intera costruzione è intrisa di numerosi simboli astrologici e la sua posizione è studiata in modo che nei giorni di solstizio ed equinozio le ombre gettate dalle pareti abbiano una particolare direzione. A mezzogiorno dell'equinozio di autunno, ad esempio, le ombre delle mura raggiungono perfettamente la lunghezza del cortile interno, ed esattamente un mese dopo coprono anche l'intera lunghezza delle stanze. Due volte l'anno, l'8 aprile e l'8 ottobre (ottobre in quel tempo era considerato l'ottavo mese dell'anno), un raggio di sole entra dalla finestra nella parete sudorientale e, attraversando la finestra che si rivolge al cortile interno, illumina una porzione di muro dove si trovava un bassorilievo raffigurante la madre terra.
Il numero otto ricorre in vari elementi di questa costruzione: la forma ottagonale della costruzione, del cortile interno e delle otto torri ai vertici, le otto stanze interne, la vasca interna che doveva essere ottagonale, otto fiori quadrifogli sulla cornice sinistra sul portale di ingresso, altri otto sulla cornice inferiore, otto foglie sui capitelli delle colonne nelle stanze, otto foglie sulla chiave di volta, otto foglie di vite sulla chiave di volta della prima sala del piano terra, otto foglie di girasole sulla chiave di volta di un'altra sala, otto foglie ed otto petali su quella della quinta sala, otto foglie di acanto sulla chiave di volta dell'ottava sala, otto foglie di fico sulla chiave di volta dell'ottava sala al piano superiore.

Mazar-e-Quaid (Urdu: مزار قائد), Jinnah Mausoleum or the National Mausoleum refers to the tomb of the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah. It is an iconic symbol of Karachi throughout the world. The mausoleum (Urdu/Persian/Arabic: mazār), completed in the 1960s, is situated at the heart of the city. It is the final resting place and mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, founder of Pakistan and is located in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan.
The location is usually calm and tranquil which is significant considering that it is in the heart of one of the largest global megalopolises. The glowing tomb can be seen for miles at night. Khan Liaquat Ali Khan, the first Prime Minister of Pakistan, and Jinnah's sister, Fatima Jinnah, are also buried besides Jinnah. Official and military ceremonies take place here on special occasions, especially on 23 March, 14 August, 11 September and 25 December. Dignitaries and officials from foreign countries also visit this place.

The Cathedral of the Most Holy Savior and of Saints John the Baptist and John the Evangelist in the Lateran (Italian: Santissimo Salvatore e Santi Giovanni Battista ed Evangelista in Laterano), also known as the Papal Archbasilica of Saint John [in] Lateran, Saint John Lateran, or the Lateran Basilica, is the cathedral church of the Diocese of Rome in the city of Rome, and serves as the seat of the bishop of Rome, the pope. The archbasilica lies outside of Vatican City proper, which is located approximately 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) to the northwest. Nevertheless, as properties of the Holy See, the archbasilica and its adjoining edifices enjoy an extraterritorial status from Italy, pursuant to the terms of the Lateran Treaty of 1929.
Originally founded in 324, the church is the oldest and highest ranking of the four papal major basilicas, holding the unique title of "archbasilica". It is the oldest public church in the city of Rome, and the oldest basilica of the Western world. It houses the cathedra of the Roman bishop, and has the title of ecumenical mother church of the Roman Catholic faithful. The building deteriorated during the Middle Ages and was badly damaged by two fires in the 14th century. It was rebuilt in the late 16th century during the reign of Pope Sixtus V. The new structure's interior was renovated in the late 17th century, and its façade was completed in 1735 under Pope Clement XII.
The current rector is Cardinal Archpriest Angelo De Donatis, Vicar General for the Diocese of Rome. The President of the French Republic, currently Emmanuel Macron, is ex officio the "First and Only Honorary Canon" of the archbasilica, a title that the heads of state of France have possessed since King Henry IV.
The large Latin inscription on the façade reads: Clemens XII Pont Max Anno V Christo Salvatori In Hon SS Ioan Bapt et Evang. This abbreviated inscription translates as: "Pope Clement XII, in the fifth year [of his Pontificate, dedicated this building] to Christ the Savior, in honor of Saints John the Baptist and [John] the Evangelist". The inscription indicates, with its full title, that the archbasilica was originally dedicated to Christ the Savior and, centuries later, co-dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and Saint John the Evangelist. Christ the Savior remains its primary dedication, and its titular feast day is 6 August, the Transfiguration of Christ. As the Cathedral of the Pope as Bishop of Rome, it ranks superior to all other churches of the Roman Catholic Church, including Saint Peter's Basilica.
The archbasilica's Latin name is Archibasilica Sanctissimi Salvatoris ac Sancti Ioannis Baptistae et Ioannis Evangelistae ad Lateranum, which in English is the Archbasilica of the Most Holy Savior and Saints John the Baptist and John the Evangelist at the Lateran, and in Italian Arcibasilica [Papale] del Santissimo Salvatore e Santi Giovanni Battista ed Evangelista in Laterano.

The archbasilica stands over the remains of the Castra Nova equitum singularium, the "New Fort of the Roman imperial cavalry bodyguards". The fort was established by Septimius Severus in AD 193. Following the victory of Emperor Constantine the Great over Maxentius (for whom the Equites singulares augusti, the emperor's mounted bodyguards had fought) at the Battle of the Milvian Bridge, the guard was abolished and the fort demolished. Substantial remains of the fort lie directly beneath the nave.
The remainder of the site was occupied during the early Roman Empire by the palace of the gens Laterani. Sextius Lateranus was the first plebeian to attain the rank of consul, and the Laterani served as administrators for several emperors. One of the Laterani, Consul-designate Plautius Lateranus, became famous for being accused by Nero of conspiracy against the Emperor. The accusation resulted in the confiscation and redistribution of his properties.
The Lateran Palace fell into the hands of the Emperor when Constantine I married his second wife Fausta, sister of Maxentius. Known by that time as the Domus Faustae or "House of Fausta," the Lateran Palace was eventually given to the Bishop of Rome by Constantine I. The actual date of the donation is unknown, but scholars speculate that it was during the pontificate of Pope Miltiades, in time to host a synod of bishops in 313 that was convened to challenge the Donatist schism, declaring Donatism to be heresy. The palace basilica was converted and extended, becoming the residence of Pope Saint Sylvester I, eventually becoming the Cathedral of Rome, the seat of the Popes as the Bishops of Rome.
Pope Sylvester I presided over the official dedication of the archbasilica and the adjacent Lateran Palace in 324, changing the name from Domus Fausta to Domus Dei ("House of God"), with a dedication to Christ the Savior (Christo Salvatori).
When a cathedra became a symbol of episcopal authority, the papal cathedra was placed in its interior, rendering it the cathedral of the Pope as Bishop of Rome.
When Gregory the Great sent the Gregorian mission to England under Augustine of Canterbury, some original churches in Canterbury took the Roman plan as a model, dedicating a church both to Christ as well as one to Saint Paul, outside the walls of the city. The church name "Christ Church", so common for churches around the world today in Anglophone Anglican contexts, originally came from this Roman church, central to pre-medieval Christian identity.
On the archbasilica's front wall between the main portals is a plaque inscribed with the words "SACROS LATERAN ECCLES OMNIUM VRBIS ET ORBIS ECCLESIARVM MATER ET CAPUT" ("Most Holy Lateran Church, mother and head of all the churches in the city and the world"); a visible indication of the declaration that the basilica is the "mother church" of all the world. In the twelfth century the canons of the Lateran claimed that the high altar housed the Ark of the Covenant and several holy objects from Jerusalem. The basilica was thus presented as the Temple of the New Covenant.
The archbasilica and Lateran Palace were re-dedicated twice. Pope Sergius III dedicated them to Saint John the Baptist in the 10th century in honor of the newly consecrated baptistry of the archbasilica. Pope Lucius II dedicated them to John the Evangelist in the 12th century. Thus, Saint John the Baptist and Saint John the Evangelist became co-patrons of the archbasilica, while the primary Patron is still Christ the Savior, as the inscription in the entrance indicates and as is traditional for patriarchal cathedrals. Consequently, the archbasilica remains dedicated to the Savior, and its titular feast is the Feast of the Transfiguration of Christ on 6 August. The archbasilica became the most important shrine of the two Saint Johns, albeit infrequently jointly venerated. In later years, a Benedictine monastery was established in the Lateran Palace, and was devoted to serving the archbasilica and the two saints.
Every pope, beginning with Pope Miltiades, occupied the Lateran Palace until the reign of the French Pope Clement V, who in 1309 transferred the seat of the Papacy to Avignon, a Papal fiefdom that was an enclave in France. The Lateran Palace has also been the site of five ecumenical councils (see Lateran Councils).
During the time the papacy was seated in Avignon, France, the Lateran Palace and the archbasilica deteriorated. Two fires ravaged them in 1307 and 1361. After both fires the pope sent money from Avignon to pay for their reconstruction and maintenance. Nonetheless, the archbasilica and Lateran Palace lost their former splendor.
When the papacy returned from Avignon and the pope again resided in Rome, the archbasilica and the Lateran Palace were deemed inadequate considering their accumulated damage. The popes resided at the Basilica di Santa Maria in Trastevere and later at the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore. Eventually, the Palace of the Vatican was built adjacent to the Basilica of Saint Peter, which existed since the time of Emperor Constantine I, and the popes began to reside there. It has remained the official residence of the pope (though Pope Francis unofficially resides elsewhere in the Vatican City).
There were several attempts at reconstruction of the archbasilica before a definitive program of Pope Sixtus V. Sixtus V hired his favorite architect, Domenico Fontana, to supervise much of the project. The original Lateran Palace was demolished and replaced with a new edifice. On the square in front of the Lateran Palace is San Giovanni Addolorata Hospital and the largest standing ancient Egyptian obelisk in the world, known as the Lateran Obelisk. It weighs an estimated 455 tons. It was commissioned by the Egyptian Pharaoh Thutmose III and erected by Thutmose IV before the great Karnak temple of Thebes, Egypt. Intended by Emperor Constantine I to be shipped to Constantinople, the very preoccupied Constantius II had it shipped instead to Rome, where it was erected in the Circus Maximus in AD 357. At some time it broke and was buried under the Circus. In the 16th century it was discovered and excavated, and Sixtus V had it re-erected on a new pedestal on 3 August 1588 at its present site.
Further renovation of the interior of the archbasilica, ensued under the direction of Francesco Borromini, commissioned by Pope Innocent X. The twelve niches created by his architectural scheme were eventually filled in 1718 with statues of the Apostles, sculpted by the most prominent Roman Rococo sculptors.
The vision of Pope Clement XII for reconstruction was an ambitious one in which he launched a competition to design a new façade. More than 23 architects competed, mostly working in the then-current Baroque idiom. The putatively impartial jury was chaired by Sebastiano Conca, president of the Roman Academy of Saint Luke. The winner of the competition was Alessandro Galilei.
The façade as it appears today was completed in 1735. It reads in Latin: Clemens XII Pont Max Anno V Christo Salvatori In Hon SS Ioan Bapt et Evang; this highly abbreviated inscription is expanded thus: Clemens XII, Pont[ifex] Max[imus], [in] Anno V, [dedicavit hoc aedificium] Christo Salvatori, in hon[orem] [sanctorum] Ioan[is] Bapt[tistae] et Evang[elistae]. This translates as "Pope Clement XII, Pontifex Maximus, in the fifth year of his reign, dedicated this building to Christ the Savior, in honor of Saints John the Baptist and John the Evangelist". Galilei's façade removed all vestiges of traditional, ancient, basilical architecture and imparted a neo-classical facade.

This individual is a wild individual that I collected at Mt. Takao at Tokyo, Japan when I was in elementary school. The natural habitat is now a residential area and has become a building area. Basically, Japanese “Cym. goeringii” flowers have no fragrance, but this individual has a strong sweet fragrance.

This individual is a wild individual that I collected at Mt. Takao at Tokyo, Japan when I was in elementary school. The natural habitat is now a residential area and has become a building area. Basically, Japanese “Cym. goeringii” flowers have no fragrance, but this individual has a strong sweet fragrance.

KUTCHII MEMON MASJID -This 19th century mosque is situated on Chand Road, off: Raja Ghazanar Ali Khan Road in the Saddar area of Karachi, where the great Muslim religious scholar Maulana Shah Ahmed Noorani led the prayer till his lasts and this responsibility is now being performed by his son.
These illumination are for the SHAB-E-QADAR during the month of Ramadan. The Shab-e-Qadar is the night which has great reverence and which fall during the month of Ramadan.

THE SINDH HIGH COURT - A Sadar Court for the Province of Sindh was established by Bombay Act XII of 1866. This Sadar Court was the Highest Court of appeal for Sindh in Civil and Criminal matters and was presided over by a Judge called the “Judicial Commissioner of Sindh”. In 1906 the Bombay Act XII of 1866 was amended by the Sindh Courts Amending Act (Bom. I of 1906) and the Sadar Court was converted into the Court of the Judicial Commissioner of Sindh consisting of three or more Judges. Apart from being the highest Court of Appeal for Sindh in civil and criminal matters, the Court was the District Court and the Court of Session in Karachi. On 21st August, 1926 the Sindh Courts Act (Bom. VII of 1926) was passed into law-making provision for the establishment of a Chief Court for the Province of Sindh.
On the coming into operation of Part III of the Government of India Act, 1935, on 1st April, 1937, Sindh became a separate Province and the Judges of the Court of Judicial Commissioner of Sindh were appointed by Royal Warrant by the British Government.
As the Sindh Courts Act, 1926 followed closely the lines of the Letters Patent of the Bombay High Court, it was felt that the immediate need of the Province could be satisfied by bringing that Act into operation thereby raising the status of the Court to that of the Chief Court of Sindh. Ultimately the Government of India Act, 1935, was suitably amended by Parliament and on 15th April, 1940 the Sindh Courts Act, 1926, was brought into operation and the Court of the Judicial Commissioner of Sindh became on that day the Chief Court of Sindh.

Castel del Monte è un edificio del XIII secolo costruito dall'imperatore Federico II in Puglia, nell'attuale frazione omonima del comune di Andria, a 18 km dalla città nei pressi della località di Santa Maria del Monte.È situato su una collina della catena delle Murge occidentali, a 540 metri s.l.m Nel 1936 Castel del Monte fu dichiarato monumento nazionale.Nel 1996 l'UNESCO lo ha inserito nella lista dei Patrimoni dell'umanità per la perfezione delle sue forme e per l'armoniosa unione degli elementi culturali del nord Europa, del mondo islamico e dell'antichità classica, tipico esempio di architettura militare del medioevo.
Età moderna
Nel XVIII secolo, i marmi del castello e altri ornamenti furono saccheggiati. Ciò che rimane ora include frammenti di un cavaliere e di un rilievo romano riutilizzato, mentre nella Galleria provinciale di Bari ci sono un frammento di testa e un busto mascherato, senza testa, a volte interpretata come Frederick II. Dopo essere stato abbandonato per un considerevole periodo di tempo, il castello fu acquistato nel 1876 per la somma di 25.000 lire dallo stato italiano, che ha iniziato il processo di restauro nel 1928.Centrale per la trama del romanzo di Umberto Eco, dove ” Il nome della rosa” è un'antica fortezza, conosciuta come la 'Aedificium'. Questo romanzo è stato quasi certamente ispirato da Castel del Monte.
Castel del Monte is a 13th-century building built by Emperor Frederick II in Puglia, in the homonymous hamlet of the municipality of Andria, in 18 km from the city near the town of Santa Maria del Monte is situated on a hill of the Western Murge, at 540 metres. Modern era
In the 18th century, the castle's marbles and other ornamentation were looted.What remains now includes fragments of a knight and a re-used Roman relief, while in the Provincial Gallery of Bari there are a head fragment and a cloaked, headless bust, sometimes interpreted as Frederick II.[3] After having been abandoned for a considerable length of time, the castle was purchased in 1876 for the sum of 25,000 lire by the Italian State, which began the process of restoration in 1928.Central to the plot of Umberto Eco's novel The Name of the Rose is an old fortress known as the 'Aedificium'. This was almost certainly inspired by Castel del Monte.

Frere Hall is one of the few well-preserved buildings from the days of the British Raj that still exists in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan.
It was built in honour of Sir Henry Bartle Edward Frere (1815–1884), who was known for promoting economic development in Karachi.
It was used as a Town Hall during the Raj. During the same period it housed a number of busts including King Edward VII's which was a gift from Seth Edulji Dinshaw. It also housed oil paintings of former Commissioners in Sind including Sir Charles Pritchard and Sir Evan James.
Around the Hall were two lawns originally known as 'Queen's Lawn' and 'King's Lawn. These were renamed as Bagh-e-Jinnah (Jinnah Garden) after independence.
