And sooooo after a helluva long time away, me is back! At least in part, been so preoccupied with DIY, Home Improvements and painting, as well as just wanting to take a break from photography, I decided to take advantage of the sudden nice weather after a mild start to Spring. Went for my usual walkabout, which means wondering for miles in no particular direction in search of no particular shot and I accidently happened upon this cemetery.
I have to say, and in well meaning respects, graveyards are actually beautiful places, I do however draw the line somewhat, as I never take shots of actual grave stones identifying people, I never step over nor onto an actual gravesite and always say a quiet thank you, in respects for deceased occupier of the grave.
These flowers were at such an angle I caught the sun rays, which felt like life upon death, hence the word serenade came to mind.
I hope everyone is well and so as always, thank you! :)
It doesn't look like it with all that ice, but it was a very balmy day last Saturday. Temps were in the 50s up on the ridge, over 3,000 ft in altitude, and the hikers and bikers had come from all over to take advantage of the beautiful weekend. Down in the valley it was in the mid 60s by late afternoon. The ice falls were magical to see. Below is my sister and her husband in front of one of the falls.
Set amid woodland in North Yorkshire, this unusual monastery is the best preserved Carthusian priory in Britain.
Mount Grace Priory is the perfect tourist attraction for a relaxing and peaceful day out. Discover how the monks lived 600 years in the reconstructed monk’s cell and herb plot.
The crumbling masonry and open grassland have become home to a collection of wildlife that has taken advantage of what previous owners, including the monks, left behind. The famous priory stoats inhabit the passages under Mount Grace and are possibly the best-known colony of stoats in Yorkshire and even the British Isles
The big advantage, or sometimes disadvantage of glass is that it is transparent and allows light to pass through it creating all sorts of effects.
This is actually focussed on a very small section of frosted glass in our front door, not more than a couple of inches wide - The section that is not the front door! I was getting all sorts of colours coming through, trying to decide which bit to concentrate upon when I heard the bin lorry coming up the road. I got this shot at just the right moment I think!
A male Red Crossbill at Bogus Basin near Boise, Idaho
"A fascinating finch of coniferous woodlands, the Red Crossbill forages on nutritious seeds in pine, hemlock, Douglas-fir, and spruce cones. Their specialized bills allow them to break into unopened cones, giving them an advantage over other finch species.
A crossbill's odd bill shape helps it get into tightly closed cones. A bird's biting muscles are stronger than the muscles used to open the bill, so the Red Crossbill places the tips of its slightly open bill under a cone scale and bites down. The crossed tips of the bill push the scale up, exposing the seed inside."

Somebody decided a quick 'rest break' was needed........would of been rude really not to get the camera out; coat, boots and feet were already wet so I thought why not......but I did feel truly soaked cold and horrible by the time we got home!

Dunstanburgh Castle is a 14th-century fortification on the coast of Northumberland in northern England, between the villages of Craster and Embleton. The castle was built by Earl Thomas of Lancaster between 1313 and 1322, taking advantage of the site's natural defences and the existing earthworks of an Iron Age fort. Wikipedia

The advantage of this time of year is that you don't have to wait too long for that lovely low angle sunset light, or to get up too early for sunrise shots!

At We’re Here! we have decided to hunt out Courtyard Treasures today.
In much of California people reside in suburban settings in single-family “detached” homes, with front and back yards. Courtyards are not extremely common, although they are often seen in commercial settings. It being, Sunday I decided against trying to find office complexes where I could conduct my hunt, and went over to a large apartment development I remembered seeing near my supermarket. I found a few cozy little walled areas here and there, but I thought what this apartment dweller had done with limited space in this corner spot really stood out.
The world is changing rapidly, and everyone changes along with the world. Discoveries is now becoming rampant; intellectually, technologically, etc, each having its advantage and disadvantage.

On my way to work this morning, the sunrise, clouds, colors, everything, was so beautiful. The icing on the cake was the hoar frost. I had to get the shot. This park is on my way so I took advantage of it and captured the moment.
I took advantage of some overnight rains (see previous shot in my photo stream) and did this hike just north of Shores Lake in western Arkansas. I think this was my first visit to these unnamed falls in the summer. It's only about a 6 footer.
It was during this shot that I was stung in the middle of my back by some giant flying insect. I hit the trail to the car after that.

Machu Picchu 20221127
Machu Picchu not only offers the visitor the view of the temples and stone houses that are on its cusp, but also gives a look of its terraces and irrigation systems, which give a unique personality to the Incan citadel and its surroundings.
The Functions of the Platforms
These constructions are wide steps built on the mountains’s slopes that allowed the Incas to gain land in order to develop agriculture adapted to the landscape.
Without a doubt, creating great steps meant a great effort, but without these, the constant rains, the humidity of the environment and the steepness of the area would have triggered large landslides that would have destroyed the ruins of Machu Picchu.
This terrace system fulfills three main functions:
Containment: These constructions prevented the land’s erosion from creating landslides when carrying out the construction of cities, houses and temples.
Agriculture: Through the construction of these platforms, the Incas expanded the amount of land used for agricultural activity. These terraces allowed to take advantage of the rainwater as a source of crop irrigation directly from channels that connected each of the levels. Nowadays, crops are not cultivated anymore to maintain their integrity, due to the condition of World Heritage of Machu Picchu.
Ceremonial centers: these finer and more extensive construction platforms were intended to decorate ceremonial and/or administrative centers.
A new one for me!
The common side-blotched lizard (Uta stansburiana) is a species native to dry regions of western United States and northern Mexico. It is notable for having a unique form of polymorphism wherein each of the three different male morphs utilizes a different strategy in acquiring mates. The three morphs compete against each other following a pattern of rock, paper, scissors, where one morph has advantages over another but is outcompeted by the third.

After a summer of intense heat in the capital, we took advantage of this past weekend to get closer to the Sierra de Madrid, specifically Navacerrada, to enjoy some autumn days at the end of August.
The temperatures were very pleasant, cool, with highest which did not exceed 64F (18ºC) and lowest which dropped to 45F (7ºC). Although it did not rain, the clouds were dense and offered nice shadows and striking lights.
In this view you can contemplate La Bola del Mundo, with its characteristic antennas on the summit, located at 7431 feet (2,265 meters) above the sea level. Below is La Barranca Valley and the old Sanatorium Santo Ángel in La Barranca, abandoned in the mid-90s. It was a hospital for tuberculosis and a psychiatric hospital.
All this scenery is part of Sierra de Guarradama National Park.
The photo was taken on Saturday evening, while we were enjoying a very pleasant walk through the village of Navacerrada.
I hope that you all had a good weekend, the last of August, and that you continue to enjoy health and wellness.
Beste viewed large.
Good Monday and nice beginning of this new week in which we say goodbye to the month of August!

Thank you so much for your comments; they are always greatly appreciated.
The biting cold here shows no sign of letting up, and it's not very inviting to spend even a few hours outside. So, I'm taking advantage of the time to do some image editing. Yes, I do hike a few kilometers on the trails in my area, but nothing special has materialized yet. In the meantime, I might as well continue with my photos from last summer.
Here is the Cerulean Warbler, which I first encountered at Point Pelee.

Happy New Year.....
I had Monday off from work and I took advantage of the time by going down to the Ravines to check on the Eagles. Four of us were down by the Grand River waiting for this Eagle to leave the Sycamore tree and head to the nest. I almost missed the shot due to too much talking amongst the group.
First flight shot of the eagles since mid September, way to long.
