Ahh, heaven. These are possibly my two favorite keyboards. I never use the JP-8 for bass but for low, moody parts played by the left hand. The right hand plays high parts on the Omni-2. It always has the "Synthesizer Section" enabled but never the "Chorus/Phaser."
This ARP Omni-2 was restored by Tone Tweakers.

subatomic Midibox SID V2
synthesizer in old vintage commodore c64 computer case
read about this DIY project here in the work blog: www.subatomicglue.com/sidl0g/
for information about making your own midibox go here: www.ucapps.de/midibox_sid.html
This is a MidiboxSID, a synthesizer that has sound chips from the original commodore 64 personal computer from the 1980's. These sound chips are called the SID 6582
The synth is built into an original Commodore 64 computer case. And features 8 SID chips (4 stereo pairs - one SID per ear x 4 voices). Each SID chip has 3 oscillators and a variety of other features like filters, ADSR, ringmod, sync. The synth has a very flexible (and simple to use) modulation matrix, LFO, bassline sequencers, and stores patches in presets.

For the circuits on the bread board I used Microchip MCP2021 AND MCP2022 op-amps to perform functions described below. These can run on 5V single rail supply making it easy to power from the computer.
Pre-amplifier. This is to allow a range of different signal sources to be connected to the input. An adjustable gain control is used to ensure the signal will be amplified as loud as possible.
The output from the pre-amp goes into an anti aliasing filter. This is a third order butterworth low pass filter with a cut off frequency of 20KHz that removes any higher frequencies that may cause aliasing distortion during the process of analogue to digital conversion. The sampling frequency will be at least 40KHz for most audio purposes but can be made higher or lower in software depending on the signal I want to capture.
The output from the DAC is sent to a reconstruction filter to remove unwanted high frequencies caused by the conversion process. This filter is the same 20KHz low pass filter as used above. With the combination of these two circuits and some software I have the ability to sample sounds and play them back and use the computer as a musical instrument.
The switches along the bottom edge of the bread board allow me to change the signal path. I have options to bypass the filters and other circuits and connect the ADC or DAC direct to the input/output connectors. This is useful if I want to use a different set of filters externally or for measuring DC voltages from something like a temperature sensor.
Other switches allow me to send the output from the DAC to another op-amp used as a mixer and mix that with another signal source coming from a second input.. The output from the mixer can be sent back to the ADC and re-sampled. An additional low pass filter can be switched into the feedback path between mixer output and the ADC input. This can be used to turn the whole setup into an audio delay effect with some additional software.
Iv'e still got a little bit more work to go before I can finally build this on to the last piece of Veroboard. Some more wires need to be added to connect up the filter circuit on the right hand side of the breadboard. A few component values in various parts will be altered to adjust the overall frequency response. Ideally so that it is flat across the audio frequency range.
*** UPDATE - 09/01/2020 ***
Iv'e been having a think and i'm not finished yet...
So I decided to add an ADSR envelope generator to the circuit which controls a VCA and have that switched in after the DAC's low pass filter and then into the mixer. I have a spare bit not being used on one of the 74F573 registers which can provide the trigger source for the envelope generator.

New from Macbeth, the Dual Envelope Generator in Eurorack continues his "X-Series". Here is a photo of the final prototype.
The Dual EG is a classic dual ADSR design and includes a "bonus" utility VCA. The module was made to be versatile, thanks to the range control, but extra attention was placed on the envelope attack and decay times to allow fast, "clicky" envelopes much like a Roland Sh-101.
The module is in production now along with the Dual SV Filter. It should be available within a few weeks. We'll update our website closer to the release date.
LINK for more info: www.macbethstudiosystems.com/ (X-Series tab).
The Synthex is a massive sounding and classic analog 8 voice synthesizer. This one in particular has the added MIDI feature. First off, It's interface is a dream to program. It has 30 knobs, 6 sliders, 80 switches and a joystick. Powerful sounds with 2 oscillators per voice, separate envelope generators, chorus and even a sequencer! The use of stable DCO's (digitally controlled analog oscillators) and oscillator cross modulation of Pulse Width and a multimode filter! The filter is based on the CEM3396 chip which was also featured in e.g. Oberheim's Matrix line of synthesizers.
There is a cool joystick that replaces traditional pitch/mod wheels and allows for greater variable real-time control over the two LFOs, oscillator and filter modulation. The 6 sliders beside the joystick assign what (LFO, osc and filter) goes to the joystick. Voices can also be layered or split across the keyboard. Other great features include the onboard digital Ring-Modulator, Chorus effect and Dual or Layer modes available. And also a four-track sequencer rounds out this synths host of features. The four different sequencer tracks can have different length, and sounds (Upper/Lower can be allocated to different tracks). Also it is possible to insert rests between notes as well as length of notes. Sequences and patches could be dumped to analog cassette tape through an audio interface. Two of it's tracks can output MIDI data.
The Synthex has three keyboard modes. 8 voice single sound (both Lower/Upper voices), Split with user selected split point (4 voices Lower/4 voices Upper) or Double which reduce the polyphony to four voices. Later versions implemented basic MIDI functions. Voices can also be layered or split across the keyboard.

The Arp Quadra is a rare and beautiful polyphonic (kind of) and analog beast. The machine combined pre-existing products: the Omni, Odyssey, a Solina-esque string unit, a phase shifter and a divide-down organ with ADSR, and a 4075 24 db low pass filter into one box. It has four sections. Bass is on the bottom two octaves, has two unison bass circuits (electric and string), with AR and a single pole low pass filter and a related AD envelope for cutoff. A string section is similar to the ARP Omni. Poly Synth, and a two voice Lead Synth similar to the Odyssey and a five way mixer with four unit outputs, a stereo pair, a line mono and an XLR out.
There are 16 memory locations, but these do not provide storage of slider settings. The 8048 microcomputer and 128k of CMOS SRAM memory recalls 16 stored sets of on/off decisions about which waveforms and modulations are turned on in each of the four sections, and lead intervals. Using LEDs the player is visually directed to the sliders critical to the sound selected but their settings are not updated.
The Quadra was not a truly polyphonic. It used divided-down circuits for the Omni-style string section, including ADSR, LFO, filter and VCAs for the Polyphonic Synth section. Both Polyphonic Synth and string sections share the hollow wave button which changes waveforms for both sections.
It has a simple and useful arpeggiator for the lead section and memorizes intervals between the two lead VCOs. Vibrato, LFO and a fast square wave trill can be added to the arpeggiation. Very unusual is the two independent portamento rates for each VCO, whether locked together or in interval mode. This is useful in either multiple or single trigger mode. Huge sweeping sounds meeting in unison is very fun.
Outstanding is the rich lush phase shifter which creates stereo and includes harmonic resonance. Also uncommon is the ability to deploy sample and hold within the phaser. The sound is similar to the chorus of the Solina, though many users avow that the Quadra due to its sonic texture and modulation controls is the richest string machine ever made.
The top three octaves of the keyboard have a mechanical touch sensor that can either pitch bend or impact brilliance and filter. Unique is the flat pedal feature which allows pedaling to dip individual notes and chords a semitone below so they rise to pitch with the envelope’s attack.
Extensive CV/Gate facilities allow two external sequencers to independently control both the bass and the lead. It is capable of four independent outs, stereo out, mono, and mono XLR but hidden in the quad outs is TRS facility for processing and returning effects on individual parts of the four sections to be recombined with external audio at a built-in mixer, which includes an internal compressor circuit. Like all ARP synthesizers of this series (2800) its true character opens up with selective use of the optional foot pedals.
The Quadra uses the typical ARP orange and black color scheme of the company's later years including the orange leather end pieces and the clean XLR out for DI console recording.

Two postmen load overseas mailbags and parcels from a trolley ladder into the Ensign via an entrance underneath the wing. Two more postmen stand at the bottom of the ladders in order to pass items from a trolley to the waiting postmen on the ladder.
The Ensign was an Imperial Airways Armstrong Whitworth AW27 aeroplane, its registration G-ADSR.

Here's a nicer photo of the new Tiptop Audio Z-DSP, mounted in a Doepfer case along with some Z3000 VCOs, a Z2040 LP Filter, a Doepfer A-110 VCO and an A-143-2 Quad ADSR. This photo shows the great design of the new Tiptop module and also gives you an idea of its size and feel when mounted in a system. LINK: www.muffwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8397 .
This is for ADSR Challenge 3.
The text reads: Potty training has been so difficult for Peter. This day was a bit easier because he had a friend, Georgie, his new stuffed monkey and a good book. He was more then willing to sit for quite awhile that day. Georgie became a potty buddy and his best friend. Georgie has gone everywhere with him, including the potty.

subatomic Midibox SID V2
synthesizer in old vintage commodore c64 computer case
read about this DIY project here in the work blog: www.subatomicglue.com/sidl0g/
for information about making your own midibox go here: www.ucapps.de/midibox_sid.html
UPDATE:
2008-05-28 We got midibox of the day! and also covered on the midibox.org's blog
2008-06-02 matrixsynth covered this story

This is the effect an envelope generator has on an audio signal. Here I have an ADSR type envelope. (Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release) controlling the VCA (Voltage Controlled Amplifier). The yellow is the audio going in to the VCA and the blue is the audio output after the VCA.

the new finished prototype of the Thomas Henry CMOS ADSR by fonitronik DIY, with added stage gate outputs and an end-trigger.
dubstep max patch with automatic phase changer: every other note, the phase exponentially changes between 0 and 11: alter this by changing the value from 1.2 to something lower (more linear change) to higher (more exponential). also, got the 0 message to bang every noteon/off without a midi keyboard! duh.
