28th February 2019 was indeed a memorable day. After many months of complaining and lobbying I finally achieved a reasonable internet connection.
NBNCo finally moved me from a node almost 2 kilometres from my home to an existing node just 400m away.
My previous NBN internet connection speeds were 12 mbps download and 1 mbps upload with the line capacity at just 16 mbps.
Having been forever previously on an ADSL2 connection (6 mbps/ 256kbps) until just a few months ago, the initial NBN speeds were a huge improvement but were obviously unsatisfactory compared to speeds being achieved by others in my area.
For those who don't know a previous Federal Labor Government in 2013 had proposed an egalitarian system of Fibre to the premises (FTTP) for 80% Australian residences (100mbps/50mbps).
The then 2013 conservative opposition LNP, looking for a point of difference between themselves and the government, campaigned arguing that FTTP was too expensive and having won the Federal election began implementing retention of ancient copper lines emanating from Fibre to the node (FTTN) connections to local exchanges. Other mixed technologies, including wireless and Fibre to the Micro Node) were also to be used.
Australians were thus denied a world class internet system and sadly, despite all the pre 2013 election rhetoric what we have now has in fact turned out to be far more costly than the original pre 2013 plan and for a much lower quality of service to many Australian homes and businesses.
From my point of view, I'm happy that at least now I am connected at a speed comparable to most of my neighbours.
I would be interested to know of the experiences of others, both in Australia and in other countries.
The move to a closer node did not come without sustained pressure on NBNCo by my service provider and my local Federal member. With an election coming up in May 2019 it's amazing what NBNCo can do when the Federal member gets involved.
The further from the node you are the worse will be your potential speed especially if the old copper lines servicing your premises are in poor condition as was the case with lines servicing my premises which were found to be lying in water at the bottom a pit. It appears anything over about half a kilometre from the node is going to see badly impacted service speeds using legacy copper lines.
One final point. I was about at the stage where I was going to make a complaint over my unsatisfactory service to the Telecommunications Ombudsman and also to the ACCC when I came across a group known as SamKnows.
Because of the massive volume of complaints about the NBN rollout SamKnows were contracted by the ACCC to monitor internet speeds across Australia and after my application was surprisingly accepted, they sent me a white digital box which sits under my modem.
For those experiencing unsatisfactory service I do suggest contacting your local member, service provider and also the Telecommunications ombudsman if not also applying for registration with the SamKnows program.
This information is posted here for the benefit of others but mainly as a record of my experiences connecting to the NBN in late January 2019.

I upgraded my ADSL2 to FTTC broadband.
It needs to be installed by an engineer - they do something to your line at the cabinet and then come and install a new telephone socket - the top is the broadband, the bottom is my (unused) landline telephone.
BT also give you an VDSL modem (which is theirs not yours) which you attach to your router, (or to a home hub if you are a BT customer?)

Yes its true, and no I haven't given up on my dear flickr. Let me tell you the story of my absense.
Where we last left off, I was packing up yet another house ready for yet another move. We are now back in our house, the one we own. Which is very exciting, no rent and no landlords! yay!
But of course, here comes The badness-
I have somehow broken my SD card for the P&S so I cant take and photos or see what is on the card. I could use my DSLR (could, should, would all different words...) But you know... lazy. And pointless due to the Big Bad -
I HAVE NO INTERNET! Yes people, someone is currently living on planet earth with no internet, it is possible and happening in our own backyards! YeGods I think I am going insane. See it all started with moving house and having to disconnect our old plan, then when we moved in to our house we were told we couldnt get ADSL2+ for some silly reason but we could get ADSL, which is slower, and 10onp / 10offp vs our old 10 onp / 100offp... For the same damn price so bugger that!
But I still cant find a plan that is cheap enough to deal with but good enough so that I wont go crazy about slow internet. So instead I am settling for none... I know... sucky.
Luckly, or very unlucky depending, this economic down turn has meant there is absolutely no one in town that wants to hire my non-degree'd arse so I have plenty of time to go to the library and use their computers, thus I can update on FB but not Flickr :(

I am slowly getting though my list. I finished my one month of alcohol along with a few others and should be doing my Dive course in November!
My make-up company is picking up, I am getting a few jobs here and there which is very exciting.
I am now a red head. And Im not talking some auburn boring thing, I am the matchbox lady. Curls are my new best friend.
I am planning a family holiday for Christmas/New Year, I will explain more soon but it could mean my first white Christmas!!!

On a sad note, Billie the mouse past away. She had a tumor on her back leg and was due to go into surgery Monday a couple of weeks back but she past away on the Sunday. Anastaysia seems lonely but is doing ok.

mi danno una alice a stento "2 mega" e me la fanno pagare da anni come 4 mega.
ogni volta che chiedo un intervento dicono che mi manderanno un tecnico, ma non si vede nessuno e dopo un poco sul portale 187.it vedo che la pratica è stata considerata arbitrariamente risolta!

per di più la centrale telefonica si trova a 217 metri da casa mia, ed il filo telefonico per l'adsl che loro mi portano è separato da quello per la fonia (ho isdn) e non ha giunzioni ma entra direttamente nel mio modem, quindi se c'e' un problema di connessione è da attribuire esclusivamente a loro!
Niente da dire, spero che telecom venga venduta agli stranieri, ma a pezzi!
e che quindi venga sparsa al vento, e dimenticata come esperienza orribile ed antidemocratica di un paese alla deriva.

I finally organised ADSL2 at Lucy's house and therefore had to set up the wireless connection on the three laptops that will be using it.
I ran a couple of speed tests on the connection. It's averaging 13Mbs. Nice. :-)
