A Thames sailing barge, Pudge, on its way up river: it's now at Greenwich...
I'd hoped to see Pudge yesterday as it sailed up river: I missed it, but found out it was heading for London and its trip included mooring and staying overnight at Gravesend so headed down there this morning ahead of the low tide hoping Pudge would set off when the tide turned, as it did.
Pudge was built in 1922 and was one of the last wooden hulled barges (pitch pine on oak which I'll need to look up...). It spent most of its working life sailing between London and Ipswich but made it as far as Hull and Boulogne. It's also a Dunkirk Little Ship and took part in the evacuation of troops from Dunkirk in 1940. It's had an engine since 1932 and unluckily for me sailed under power while I was watching. Never mind: next time !
It's now owned and operated by the Thames Sailing Barge Trust, "a registered charity that exists to preserve two Thames barges in sailing condition for the benefit of the public and to pass on the skills required to sail them". I believe that's the purpose of its trip to London. The Trust's other barge is Centaur, which I've not seen.
In the background are the cranes of London Gateway, a few miles down river. A container ship, Hanoi Express, is moored there now; it has a "deadweight tonnage" of 229,348 metric tons. Its predecessor on the Thames, Pudge and other barges, could carry 150 tons...

Sorry for not commenting recently - I use True as my ISP here in Thailand and over the last week I've had substantial speed difficulties. Example, my 2.5mbps ADSL line was yesterday only giving me 51.6kbps speeds** - True's response "heavy rain! They promised today will be back to normal (I hope better than that) and they've reset my system (they claim). Check out what Largo's got to say!

Internet...fuck you!
Mi sono rotta le palle di router, ADSL, windows, modem, Tele2, ping, impostazioni, ipconfig, MTU...e bla bla bla!
In un mese mi hanno fatta diventare una hacker.
La prossima volta voglio rinascere nel 1800.
Como bien dice el título, mañana temprano nos vamos de vacaciones y no voy a tener adsl en el Pc, lo cual os dejo por un par de días hasta mi regreso...
Ya se que nos vamos justo con la ola Siberiana :S y esperamos no encontrarnos con muchas sorpresas por tierras valencianas, claro está que va hacer más fresquete aquí que allí... así que abrigaros mucho este fin de semana y si os nieva... sacad las cámaras :) Mira que como nieve cuando no estoy... pequeño va ser el rebote que me voy a pillar, ¡hum!

Estic sense ADSL a casa, per tant no tinc massa posibilitat de veure, comentar i participar en gaire res... ara faig trampa i ho faig des de la feina jejeje... no sé quant s'arreglarà, però he canviat de companyia, i una ja m'ha donat de baixa (telefònica) i l'altra encara no sap com m'adonarà d'alta (orange).... demano, doncs, disculpes, doncs no sé quan ho tindré solucionat... abraçades per a tothom.

Estoy sin ADSL en casa, por tanto tengo muy pocas posibilidades de ver, comentar y participar en casi nada.... ahora estoy haciendo algo de trampa desde el trabajo, pero no puedo mucho jejejejeje... No sé cuando lo tendré arreglado, pues me he cambiado de compañia y una (telefónica) me ha dado de baja con "excesiva" rapidez, mientras la otra (orange) parece que todavia no tiene claro cuando me podrá dar de alta... resultado que no sé cuando lo tendré a punto...
