After a bit of a lens conundrum I finally landed on a sigma 500 f4 sports lens. I have to say that this lens is sharp, easily sharper wide open than my canon 400 2.8 wide open, the canon stopped down and they are probably almost even giving a slight edge to the 400 which is impressive, really impressive as that canon could slice butter. It took me a few lenses to get here, canon 500 f4 IS and canon 600 f4 IS which I was totally underwhelmed by especially as all I read is how fantastic they are, both pretty poor wide open (Remember I’m comparing those both to the 400 2.8). For me a lens has to optically perform wide open or I may as-well get a zoom and save money. Then we get to the af performance, all three of the canons where poor with the older non IS 400 2.8 performing better than the two newer 500 and 600 IS models. The 500 and 600 where so bad I started to manual focus! The sigma with the sigma adapter for the Sony is such an improvement over the canon, even appears to track, no where near sony level.

The tomb of Tutankhamun (reigned c. 1332–1323 BC), a pharaoh of the Eighteenth Dynasty of ancient Egypt, is located in the Valley of the Kings. The tomb, also known by its tomb number KV62, consists of four chambers and an entrance staircase and corridor. It is smaller and less extensively decorated than other Egyptian royal tombs of its time, and it probably originated as a tomb for a non-royal individual that was adapted for Tutankhamun's use after his premature death. Like other pharaohs, Tutankhamun was buried with a wide variety of funerary objects and personal possessions, such as coffins, furniture, clothing and jewelry, though in the unusually limited space these goods had to be densely packed. Robbers entered the tomb twice in the years immediately following the burial, but Tutankhamun's mummy and most of the burial goods remained intact. The tomb's low position, dug into the floor of the valley, allowed its entrance to be hidden by debris deposited by flooding and tomb construction. Thus, unlike other tombs in the valley, it was not stripped of its valuables during the Third Intermediate Period (c. 1070–664 BC).
Tutankhamun's tomb was discovered in 1922 by excavators led by Howard Carter and his patron, George Herbert, 5th Earl of Carnarvon. As a result of the quantity and spectacular appearance of the burial goods, the tomb attracted a media frenzy and became the most famous find in the history of Egyptology. The discovery produced only limited evidence about the history of Tutankhamun's reign and the Amarna Period that preceded it, but it provided insight into the material culture of wealthy ancient Egyptians as well as patterns of ancient tomb robbery. Tutankhamun became one of the best-known pharaohs, and some artefacts from his tomb, such as his golden funerary mask, are among the best-known artworks from ancient Egypt.
Most of the tomb's goods were sent to the Egyptian Museum in Cairo and are now in the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza, although Tutankhamun's mummy and sarcophagus are still on display in the tomb. Flooding and heavy tourist traffic have inflicted damage on the tomb since its discovery, and a replica of the burial chamber has been constructed nearby to reduce tourist pressure on the original tomb.
Climate change is a silent killer that you don't notice. It not only has to do with global warming, but other processes in our ecosystem are also changing. It is a chain reaction of unprecedented scale. Like here in the Harz in Germany, large parts of the coniferous forests have died from successive plagues, such as drought, insects, wind and so on. We will have to adapt and look for solutions to keep the earth livable.

I'd come over with a camera because there was a juvenile male king parrot about. The handful of seeds was to encourage him to come into the open where there was more light and he wouldn't be backlit.
That's when an adult male flew into him and spoiled everything. Now there was no chance of him coming out of cover.
None of that meant a thing to these opportunists. This pair of crested pigeons pounced on the unattended goodies. Personally, I think of them as pointy pigeons — it makes more sense, and rolls off the tongue more easily. The female is on the left. The big lump, his head a blurred pecking machine, is the male. I know this for certain because he'd done his silly tail up jig. She was having none of it. What she wanted was lunch.
There's other different things in the frame: a horseshoe, complete with still clinched nails and in the background, a very rusted, very, very large bit. I have no notion how that shoe with clinched nails could have made it off a hoof, but it conveniently stops bird seed flying everywhere. There was a horse's skull in the paddock for a time so I do wonder if the two things were related. Stuff like this keeps turning up: broken china, odd spoons, bottles of all sorts, even a Victorian Era Army belt buckle, pre-Federation, with the British Royal motto. Yep, that's different!
Summer days with just about enough warm weather are rare, or used to be, except this year. It was an opportunity not to miss, I took a drive through the countryside. Here, perennial coneflowers in a garden, being pretty.

At maximum zoom, 200mm, on minimum focusing distance and wide-open aperture, this is the worst-case scenario for any zoom lens - and this is visibly a very old lens.

This is the closeup of a sculpture entitled "Hunger March" by artist Jens Galschiotdisplayed and it was being displayed in the park along with 2 other as a series. The whole piece was actually 20 copper sculptures of starved children, and it appeared as a mobile manifestation in the protests during the WTO summit.
I think the facial expressions of starved children showed a lot of pride despite the injustice they're going through and all, so i zoomed in and took a few shots. This is the one i liked more. Hope y'all like it too. I'll submit a photo of the sculptures as a whole piece later.

victoria a spayed garden cat in her bespoke shelter raised off the ground under the patio table :) she's fed daily. victoria is a semi feral cat that's sheltered in my garden since being a kitten. she has become more friendly recently but she's happy in the garden with her friends. she's never too far away
i should have cut off the wilko label! i hadn't noticed it until i viewed the photo. the shelter is an adapted cotton rope laundry basket lined underneath with a few carpet tiles, backed with a rug on what would have been the base and one handle tied on top to one horizontal strut of the patio table. then further infilled with a cushion and a couple of warm shawls. it's safely lifted off the ground using a plastic crate with a couple of carpet tiles on top of the crate
victoria found it, liked it and settled

Bronzino (Agnolo di Cosimo Tori 1503-1572) - Descent of Christ into Limbo (1552) - Medici Chapel - Basilica of Santa Croce Florence
The Descent of Christ into Limbo, depicts the release of honest souls who were born before the Resurrection of Christ. The work will recognize many portraits, including those of some women known at the time for their beauty, some of which depicted half-naked, and therefore particularly sensual and perturbing, considered at the time, poorly adapted to a sacred place
