Trillium species are native to temperate regions of North America and Asia, with the greatest diversity of species found in the Appalachian Mountains of the southeastern United States."

▶ Photographer's note.
At first, I thought this was the trillium species, little sweet betsy (Trillium cuneatum). But, perhaps it's decumbent trillium, or another species of the flower. Could a Flickr trillium savant assist with an identification?

Fronds of a male fern...

9 March 2023.

▶ "Dryopteris filix-mas —commonly known as the male fern— is a common fern of the temperate Northern Hemisphere, native to much of Europe, Asia, and North America. It favours damp shaded areas in the understory of woodlands, but also shady places on hedge-banks, rocks, and screes.
The semi-evergreen leaves have an upright habit and reach a maximum length of 59 inches (150 cm), with a single crown on each rootstock. There are 20-35 bipinnate leaves [arising from both sides of a common axis] on each side of the rachis [a main axis or shaft]. The leaves taper at both ends and equally lobed all around. Many fern fronds [stem-divided leaves] are initially coiled into a fiddle-head or crozier [bishop's staff-like structure]."

▶ "Hyacinthus orientalis —the common hyacinth— is a species of flowering plant in the family Asparagaceae, subfamily Scilloideae, native to southwestern Asia, southern and central Turkey, northwestern Syria, Lebanon, and northern Israel. It was introduced to Europe in the 16th century (the Netherlands is a major center of cultivation) and now is widely cultivated everywhere in the temperate world.
Hyacinthus orientalis grows from a 1 to 3-inch diameter bulb (3–7 cm). The flowering stem is a raceme [plant stalk that holds short floral stalks], which grows 8-14 inches tall (20–35 cm) bearing purple flowers 1 to 1½ long (2–3.5 cm) from 2 [in the wild] to as many as 100 [in domesticated cultivars]. These strongly fragrant flowers appear early in spring. Cultivated, there are over 2,000 named varieties, with flower color in shades of blue, white, pale yellow, pink, red, and purple. "

▶ "Winter is when Mahonia bealei (also called leatherleaf mahonia or Beale's barberry) catches your eye. Notice the new year's growth as cold weather settles in, when bright-yellowish green buds swell from the tips of the stems. Each growth point erupts into a cluster of one to two dozen spires of yellow flowers, tiny bright bells above the dark green foliage. If you're lucky and have a warm spell in midwinter, be sure to step closer and enjoy your first scent of spring. Each flower produces a small oval, purple fruit, reminiscent of grape clusters. Naturalized, not native, in North America, Mahonia bealei populates many of the southeastern U.S. states," and is considered invasive in several.

▶ About Glenn Creek
☞ Glenn Creek is part of the Chattahoochie River Basin in Georgia. The creek's headwaters (fed by spring and storm-drain!) form one-half mile east of this rapid, in Glenn Creek Nature Preserve.
☞ Conversely, from this point the creek flows two miles farther
northwest, to its confluence with the larger South Fork Peachtree Creek in the Ira B. Melton Park (DeKalb County).
☞ "Initially, Glenn Creek was called 'Hunter's Branch,' but over the years it became known as Glenn Creek, which is one of many headwaters located in the city of Decatur."

We were up on the Niagara Escarpment today - though this is nowhere near Niagara and I'm not bald. This spot is called "Old Baldy," presumably for a section of exposed rock, which overlooks the Beaver Valley. In the distance, you can just see a hint of the Fall colors that are beginning to emerge. As for being old, well, that's a matter of opinion.
My better half came in handy as a remote shutter release for this one.

Loosens stiff neck
The moving seat âforcesâ you to straighten your back, have a correct head position and pull your shoulders back, reducing stress on the trapezoid muscles and loosening the stiff cervical spine. The constant movement of the seat eliminates any possible blockage, thus relaxing a stiff neck.
Straightens round backs
The movement of the seat straightens the back in the thoracic kyphosis area, restoring the physiological shape of the spine into its natural position (the natural curve of the spine in the shape of the letter âSâ). Eliminating a round back also lessens pressure to organs in the chest, especially the lungs and stomach, which leads to improved breathing and digestion.
Activates weak muscles of the back and abdomen
The movable seat allows for body movement in all directions, so you are not forced to sit still â SpinaliS chairs encourage the involvement of all torso muscles, which leads to the strengthening of the back and abdominal muscles.
Reinforces deep stabilizing muscles
The stabilization of deep spinal muscles is all about strengthening muscles that stabilize the spine during all movements that we make. Deep stabilization plays an important role in protecting our spine against various loads and stress. Taking care of your spine requires constant exercising of deep stabilizing muscles, which in the sitting position is possible only on a Swiss ball or on a healthy SpinaliS chair.
Removes pain in the lower back
The movable seat of SpinaliS chairs swings forward while you lean over your desk, thereby allowing the spine to bend forward resuming lumbar lordosis at all times. Lumbar lordosis is important for optimal placement of the lumbar vertebrae as they are wedge-shaped (higher in the front, lower in the back). With the correct hip position there is a substantial reduction of pressure on the vertebrae and intervertebral discs, which allows for effective pain relief. In addition, the movable seat also reduces stress in the lower beck, unlike in the case of chairs with fixed seats, which can make sitting quite painful.
