The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel located on an extremely rocky outcrop above the city of Athens and contains the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historic significance, the most famous being the Parthenon.

Position: Acropolis, Athens, Greece is probably the most famous and most visited monument in the world from the Antiquity times. It is the symbol of Athens and its most famous landmark. On the rock of Acropolis there are several monuments from the Greek Antiquity. The Parthenon and other main buildings on the Acropolis were built by Pericles in the fifth century BC as a monument to the cultural and political achievements of the inhabitants of Athens. For its extraordinary historical value was 1987 registered on the world heritage List of UNESCO.

I've been off the face if the internet for a month now. First for a trip to Greece and then the crash of my hard drive. But I'm slowly getting my back ups on to the new hard drive. I seem to have back ups of everything except my contact list.

 

These are photos of the Acropolis in Athens and was just day one of a 17 day tour, so I suspect I'll bore everyone to death with my holiday photos.

 

On the other side of the building is a well that was said to be the location where Poseidon's trident landed.
