The subjects are assorted gum nuts I collected on my walks and 2 small acorn caps.
The biggest nut measured 1 inch in diameter and the smaller nut is still attached to the twig.
Only one light source, an LED torch at 12 o'clock.

Macro Mondays ~ Herbs and Spices
I was looking for something other than a spoon or flat surface to display these red peppercorns. In my prop box I found a few acorns and thought the cap might add a sense of scale and a little twist on the theme.

A still life for me is usually something I find, not something I orchestrate. Here is a tiny acorn cap on a leaf. That’s it. Pretty close to true macro, it took fifteen shots to get this much depth of field.

Every day should be *Earth Day* and so I continue to celebrate with some treasures which bring delight to me *inside* as they rest in different places around our home.
Many years ago a very dear flickr contact and long-time friend, sculpted this fabulous metal leaf for me. Recently I purchased the beautiful metallic copper oak leaf pendant which settled nicely in the dish for a photo shoot! It is part of a jeweled *bookmark* which would be an elegant addition to an accompanying book on nature!
Like I said in the illustration below,
"Mighty oaks grow from little acorns."
I have a dish my daughter made years ago in a pottery class in my workroom. I keep pieces of inspiration in the dish. This is just a small part of the collection. I enjoy finding beauty in items past their prime. Some of the items are from last fall and some, like the tulip petals, are from just a couple weeks ago.
I found these while waiting for lunch at an outdoor stand in northern NY recently. I love the colors and texture.
The inside front cover of my youngest daughter’s letterboxing logbook,
showing stamped versions of her “Mr. Butt” and “Acorn Cap” rubber stamps,
the head of my oldest’s “MUDDUCK” stamp*, a date stamp, and a stamp of my initials.
* If you take the letters from letters from my last name, and my wife’s maiden name you could get either “MadDog” or “MudDuck”. I think either would be really fine new last name!
I wonder how the fairies will tell their hats apart when the concert is over…

and there are acorns in my bowl. A group of wool acorns I've made are sitting near my felted stones, driftwood, and a freshly fallen oak leaf.
The monsters are getting in the spirit of Fall by wearing acorn caps. It was the monkey's idea. This could be a new fashion!
Day 266 of 366.
Not much accomplished yesterday due to family happenings, but I did manage to make up some acorns late in the evening. I'm a fan of this robin's egg blue color.

Gleaned from the trail on my morning "stretch my legs" hike.
While on vacation, all sorts of silly things seemed to surface!
Rocks and shells took on different forms with strokes of paint!
Collections began to gather on an old table.
This composition includes a beached crab shell
with barnacles which look like eyes,
a sprig of thyme used in cooking a Moroccan chicken dish,
a broken twig with two acorn tops,
and an over-the-counter sleeping pill
taken one evening at high tide when
crashing waves prevented falling into the REM zone!
(I actually captured this with my iPhone to send as a
"thank you" to my daughter and her boyfriend who
were part of the festivities and chefs for a night!)

"Herman met Sally on the beach one night,
The sea was calm and the starfish were bright.

and we won't let you take her for your mate.'

She loved that lobster right from the start.
He took her in his claws and said

I'll show them crabs really aren't that bad.'
But they turned her away ~
'What will the neighbors say?'
And they laughed at the funny walk she had.
Then one day on the sandbar what did Herman see,
But his little ol' Sally walking straight as can be.
He said, 'Sweetheart now they'll take you in the family!'
She said, 'Don't you sweetheart me!

A fall color wheel of wee wool acorns. Red, orange, yellows, greens, and an assortment of browns.
Made of wool that I've wet-felted and then glued inside an acorn cap that I gathered from our woods.

The boys and I made these yesterday. I think I'll tie these on our holiday packages.
A new combo of wool acorns I made, inspired by those pretty little violets that grow wild in our woods. Shades of violet and lavender with soft yellow and greens too.
“Even though the Winter Solstice was still a few weeks away, Winter came early to The Enchanted Woods, covering everything in ice and snow. It seems the Element of Air, agitated by The Element of Water, caused bickering between the two of them and the consequences of their arguing caused heavy snows mixed with great gusts of winds for several days.
The gusts of wind blew snow into large drifts burying plants, rocks, mushrooms, and the homes of little animals, fairies and hobbits.
But, fairies are very resilient. Because it is their responsibility to protect all aspects of nature, fairies enjoy all of the four seasons and the weather conditions which accompany them. In fact, when the ground is pure white and blanketed with snow with high snow drifts, fairies love to go picnics.
…When... outside, fairies seek out little nooks, crannies, and tiny spaces in the snow drifts to nestle into. They then spend the afternoon dreaming, imagining, singing, and, of course, snacking on their favorite winter snack, “Snow Candy”.
“Snow Candy"...can be eaten frozen… but that is best done when one is at home in front of a nice big roaring fire with a nice hot cup of pine tea and some acorn muffins.
Outside, it is eaten by taking a few pieces and dropping them into one’s fairy cup. The fairy cup is then held tightly, but gently, between the palms of both hands and rolled very quickly so that it melts into a rather thick sweet nectar –like liquid. The longer it is rolled, the thicker it becomes. It is all a matter of choice…”

“A Little Tale”…
Most humans interchange the words “Enchanted Woods” with “Enchanted Forest” because they do not know any better. But, that is incorrect.
You see, the Enchanted Woods and the Enchanted Forest are not one in the same. The Enchanted Forest is part of the Enchanted Woods. It is located in the deepest regions of the Enchanted Woods where the trees are very tall and have numerous branches and leaves, thus, creating a sort of ceiling. Because of this ceiling of leaves and branches, very little sunlight filters through to the ground and, so the ground is covered in shade, shade loving plants and bushes, mushrooms, rotting leaves, ivy, and ferns.
This is where the earth elementals live, including Enchanted Forest fairies…
… Compared to the fairies that inhabit the Enchanted Woods, Enchanted Forest fairies are pale in complexion, but their hair and eyes are black. Their black eyes are a striking facial feature; they are very large and a very deep black color with long black lashes.
Enchanted Forest fairies live in fairy mounds with their entire family… every generation from the oldest to the youngest…, it can get rather noisy inside…
… So, most Enchanted Forest fairies, when it is time for them to do their magic, chose to leave their fairy mound home and work outside in their chosen secret spot where it is dark, damp, and quiet...

This project was a family affair. My little boys painted the bean "eggs", my oldest drilled the acorn caps (which we all gathered from the woods), we all harvested the birch bark, the wool leaves were saved from my scrap bin, and I put them all together.
These will adorn my holiday gifts this year.
These are used drill bits from oil drilling rigs. I swear they look just like extremely heavy acorn caps. I've put this image into the new Top 20 Rust and Crust group pool - it's a challenge photo.
In making this miniature dollhouse scale (1:12) pine hutch, I applied five coats of paint, sanded, brushed, and damp washed each layer before applying the next one. The resultant dominant color is red and has touches of, naturally, “enchanted” glitter.
The hutch is open with no doors and a faux drawer. It stands approximately 6” tall and is approximately 4 1/4” at its widest point. On one side of the hutch is a tarot card, “Strength”, and on the other side, a gold tone half moon and star charm and a besom (broom).
Tarot cards serve as wallpaper for the back of the top two shelves. A brass kitty’s face is placed at the hutch's top right corner. The back sports a secret treasure map.
An acorn cap painted green with glitter hangs over the front of the hutch to serve as a light. Greenery and an actual dried flower from my enchanted garden adorn the top.
I make my hutches one at a time… from start to finish. There is no assembly line in my workshop. No elves either. For this reason, this is truly one-of a-kind. I keep no written “recipes” for the color or instructions for the items I create to put into/on my hutches. Pieces on this hutch are from nature or created at the time I was working on it from materials at hand at that time.
