El salto del río Agrio tiene más de 60 metros de altura y forma una laguna, rodeada de altas paredes de basalto, producto de coladas lávicas del Escorial del Volcán Copahue. Las mismas están tapizadas por musgos en algunos sectores, a causa de la humedad ambiental, mientras que en otros, las vulcanitas son coloreadas por la acción del agua ácida, que genera óxidos e hidróxidos de hierro.

The jump of the Agrio river is more than 60 meters high and forms a lagoon, surrounded by high walls of basalt, product of lava flows of the Escorial of the Volcano Copahue. They are upholstered by mosses in some areas, due to the humidity, while in others, the vulcanites are colored by the action of acidic water, which generates oxides and iron hydroxides.
La onagra (Oenothera biennis L.) es una planta robusta, de hojas numerosas, lanceoladas, recubiertas de pilosidad y grandes y llamativas flores amarillas, que tienden a abrirse al atardecer. Por ello en inglés se la conoce como evening primrose ("primavera de noche"). Originaria del este de Estados Unidos, hoy crece en buena parte de Europa.
Las semillas de onagra son muy ricas en ácidos grasos poliinsaturados ...Para aliviar los síntomas del síndrome premenstrual, como calambres musculares, hipersensibilidad en los pechos y dolor de cabeza, así como para restablecer la normalidad del ciclo menstrual.

There were farms in the vicinity from the Middle Ages till 1945.
After the eruption known as the Krýsuvík fires in the middle of the 12th century, probably in 1151-1188, the main farm was transferred to a place under the mountain Bæjarfell. The name Krýsuvík was still used for the farm, though the buildings were at a distance of some kilometers from the sea.
The farm had a reputation for being very rich till the end of the 19th century. Being near the sea, the farm had additional income from fishing and hunting. Commerce was also done, because the farm was a junction of old trails from the north to the south coast.
Also the sulfur of the nearby geothermal areas was mined and exported.
However, Krýsuvík was too far away from upcoming industry and commerce and therefore abandoned in the middle of the 20th century.
Árni Gíslason, one of the richest people in Iceland in the 19th century, lived in Krýsuvík. In 1949, a new farm (Fjósið) was constructed near the maar Grænavatn, but for many reasons, never used much as such.[
