Le lac acide du Kawah Ijen, dans le Sud-Est de Java, en Indonésie, a un volume d'environ 50 millions de mètres cubes d'une solution à pH très proche de 0. Dans ces conditions de très forte acidité, de composition chimique particulière et de température élevée, la vie est pratiquement absente de ces milieux.
Toutes ces conditions entraînent une modification de la couleur des eaux qui prennent des teintes allant le plus souvent du vert clair au turquoise. Ainsi, tandis que l'acide sulfurique est responsable de la couleur verte, les cyanobactéries le sont de la couleur turquoise . Leurs couleurs, parfois distinctes, changent régulièrement et rapidement,
Les plus célèbres lacs acides sont ceux du Poás (le plus acide du monde) et de l'Irazú au Costa Rica, du Kawah Ijen (le plus grand, le plus chargé en soufre et le deuxième plus acide), de l'Inielika et du Kelimutu en Indonésie, de l'Ambae au Vanuatu1, du Furna do Enxofre aux Açores

The distinctive cab of Copper Basin 502 is plainly apparent as it brings the Unit Train west through Kearny. This engine was originally built for Kennecott Copper and had a custom raised cab for operating in Kennecott's mine in Utah. Its cab height was chopped after it was sold, but it retains a different shape from the standard EMD cab.
Trees are beautiful in all the seasons but I personally find them to be at their most perfect in that really short spell of time between bud and full leaf. Most photographers seem to prefer Autumn, but I've not really had the opportunity to photograph Autumn to it's full potential yet. I only bought my camera in August 2018, so that first Autumn I was really finding my way around my camera and new hobby. Last Autumn I was up north in the mother county playing nurse to a knee replacement patient. Thus the season of Autumn has eluded me as a photographer so far. Maybe when I get to 'do Autumn' my opinion will change but I don't think so. Those small, almost luminous green baby leaves are perfection! This was taken about a good hour and a quarter after sunrise but the light was still very special - very high light cloud and mist both diffusing the suns rays beautifully.
