Lounging is one of my favorite activities in SL, and if I can manage to accomplish that at a lakeside lagoon, all the better! Adorable pups, pretty places to wander about and explore, amazing friendships and shopping are the definition of SL to me. Speaking of which, while scampering about I have seen lots of these cute bandages at various shopping events for a while now, and they look fabulous and fun and sassy on everyone else. So I thought, okay, I love this one that is made to look as if its crafted of metal...a jewelry bandage, yay, I'll give it a whirl! I bought it, tossed it on immediately, and yes, as I suspected, on mini me it just looks as if my wild chihuahua snapped me while I was trying to kiss his lil cute face! The rascal!

Full moon evenings are always a treat when I can carve time out to develop a composition and then go and try to accomplish the feat.
we say that magicians are really illusionists. and to accomplish those illusions, they use smoke and mirrors. what you see in this pic is just a clear, colorless candy dish, a blue glass serving dish and a hot pad. through the use of light (smoke) and glass (mirrors) a flower is born. in my head....
I enjoy the grainy aspect when shooting with a low resolution device. I tried many different angles with this shot and personally preferred being able to show the one angler having his morning smoke and the only way I could accomplish this was having their heads above the shore line. By doing this as well highlights the sunrise reflections on the face of the other sportsman. I feel this just ads to the depth of the image. since both heads have a unique presence.

This excavator had a primary purpose as an earth mover, yet in this snow covered image - it looks like it could have been contracted out to dig through the freshly fallen snow.
Looks can be deceiving.
**Captured less than two weeks ago. The snow has since then melted and Spring appears to have arrived.
Excavators are heavy construction equipment consisting of a boom, dipper, bucket and cab on a rotating platform known as the "house". The house sits atop an undercarriage with tracks or wheels. They are a natural progression from the steam shovels and often mistakenly called power shovels. All movement and functions of a hydraulic excavator are accomplished through the use of hydraulic fluid, with hydraulic cylinders and hydraulic motors. Due to the linear actuation of hydraulic cylinders, their mode of operation is fundamentally different from cable-operated excavators which use winches and steel ropes to accomplish the movements.

Must've been fate when I just happened to find this 'lil guy outside today. This is just a single image shot of a common Horsefly using the Rotolight Neo2 for illumination.
Macros are real fun when the subject strikes your fancy.
One of these days I'm going to attempt extensive image stacking just to see what I can accomplish.

I did a solo trip out West. My first time to be by myself and to just focus on hikes and photography that I wanted to accomplish. I ended up putting 2k miles on a rental car, hitting so many places within a weeks time. The Fire Wave in Nevada was a great experience. An easy one hour drive from Las Vegas. This was a morning capture about 10 am. The sandstone striations were incredible and while I haven't visited the Wave in AZ, this was well worth the effort to get here. There were a few other hikers there at the time. I went during the week hoping to have the area to myself.

She leaned agaisnt his shoulder and felt his arm around her back tighten slightly pulling her closer that made her snuggle agaisnt him through their walk along the forest.
Silence was comfortable and they each probably had their own mind debates about certain things. Her head tilted to look up at him curiously, wondering what he was thinking about. He caught her looking at him and reached a hand to pinch her nose that made her scrunch it while rolling her eyes yet she was smiling slightly. He always enjoyed teasing her.
Their walk ended towards a clearing in the forest, shielded by tall trees and surrounded by dandelions. She caught some that escaped through the wind and blew it towards him before they settled into a bench for a little rest before it was time to return back home.
P.S. Happiest Birthday to my Forever. You leveled up! Thank you for being patient with me, putting up with my constant mood shifts and most of all never giving up on us. On your special day, I hope and wish that you will have a fulfilling year and accomplish everything you ever dreamed of. I will always be by your side to support you and cheer you on! There are things we want to do... or imagine we will do...

We change and dream of different things... and change is good as long as we learn and evolve from it...

lol my poor avi's face...however, I wanted to accomplish the hands-face I was seeing in special effects photography.

As eager as I am to share some shots/videos from this spring, I thought I'd better finish up the last two stories from last spring first!
The video is less than 3 minutes long and showcases their energized activity from preening, scratching, wing exercises positional changes in the nest, and don't miss the funny 12 second feeding at the end. With little nest edge available to perch and feed these full grown chicks, she decides to partly hover and stand on a chick's back to accomplish the task.
This was the only time the female fed the chicks in my presence. After buzzing the back of my head to determine threat levels, where I stayed stock still, she went ahead with her 12 second feeding. While I was trying to determine if she was still somewhere behind me, I was vaguely aware of a flickering of activity on the camera screen in front of me. It wasn't till I uploaded it, that I realized she had risked a feeding with me there... and so a tentative trust grows ever so briefly before they left.

On one of the hottest days we had this spring, I saw this Great Blue Heron going through some actions attributed to "thermo-regulation".
This series shows how they do this, termed "sunning" by some research.
It was said that they will fan their wings wide open and drop their "shoulders' cupping the wings to accomplish this ... to maintain their body temp and even allow for cooling or other possible benefits. They and many larger birds also will pant, where they open their beak and flutter the throat and neck muscles as shown in the 3rd pic to maximize air flow to help drop their internal temperature.

Early May is the time I visit a section of the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina along with some of the roads that veer off the parkway to lower elevations. This visit it was on the cold side the first two days with a lot of wind at elevation but there was sun. Those conditions limited where I could shoot the first two days as I had not only to find the target birds but find them in areas sheltered from the wind. The roads that veer off the parkway to lower elevation helped a lot. This image is from the third day (5/4) where conditions were much better at altitude and I was able to accomplish quite a bit in just a few hours. My first stop 5/4 was an area that is generally very good for Canada Warb1er but had been too windy the first two days to even stop there. I heard one singing at both adjacent locations and determined I would double back to them a bit later in the morning as the area was still going to be in shade for another 90 minutes or so. Then it was on to find a Blackburnian with the goal to photograph it on a conifer in the great morning light. I knew the stretch of road where this should be possible and soon found the right light on a conifer where I could pull off and where I could safely shoot using that great light. I heard him singing above and thankfully he was easy to work with and he was on the intended perch quickly. Within minutes I was backtracking towards the Canada Warblers.
With the dark background and the bright orange bird a common mistake is to blow out the orange-overexposing it. Notice in my settings I was shooting -2 EV. These settings also made the background darker and in my opinion helps the bird pop even more against that background.
While spending much time taking "traditional" (up close) macros and enjoying the results offered by some very talented photographers, I've always found a "mid-range" aspect to be more challenging in terms of composition and focus, and often more interesting to view in its more encompassing frame. Here's an attempt to accomplish that in another image of a marsh milkweed. For those preferring a closer look, you can give a click or two.

It was beautiful weather yesterday. (especially for Dec.). I saw this one lone sailboat on the water. I waited for it to get in front of the sun's reflection. I was hoping for a golden sea sort of photo. I didn't quite accomplish that even with sliding but here it is. Happy Sunday and have a good week!
