If you don't already know this, you should.
Librarians tend (in the overwhelming majority) to be the types of people that go above and beyond. All the time, like consistantly. I know so many librarians that I can't even give you an accurate count so you should really trust me on this.
On flickr alone, I can count 7-8 librarians that I have met in the last 4 months. There are a raft of us in the 365.
Anyway, when sweet sweet smg55039 found out that I wouldn't be going to ALA in DC and that I was a little more than a little bit sad about it - she offered to send me some swag.
How nice, I thought. Thinking she'd send a few bookmarks or a poster.
Well...this package came today that was packed FULL of cool stuff. We're talking tote bags, pens, buttons, comic books (The Dark Tower graphic novel!), stickers, a mini portfolio and even a book. Seriously, everything I would have picked up for myself had I been there. And this woman only knows me from flickr...my goofy stream on flickr.
How awesome is that?
Thank you thank you and thank you again.
You made my week!

Martin Luther Ring. This is called the “Martin Luther Ring” from a southern jewelry craftsman James Avery. It is a replica of the ring that Catherine the Great gave Martin Luther. This was my graduation present from my mother and while it is very special to me because of that- I do keep one sacred tradition with this ring. Any time I wear it, I will always wear it with Christ on the inside facing my body, never facing away. It is my own tradition of focusing on “Christ In Me”- which is also what my name “Christopher” means… bearing Christ. I doubt that anyone has ever noticed this, but it is my tradition and reason behind it

Coffee. It used to be that my routine would be to have a cup of coffee in my hand and a cigarette lit within 5 minutes of waking up, but thankfully the cigarettes have been gone for over a year now! That being said, the coffee is always ready and always in my hand first thing in the morning. I have so many good associations with coffee, and I’m sure it’ll be a part of my daily routine for quite some time. In the summer I always have it in the fridge. In the winter (those two weeks that we get), it’s always on the warming plate.
Along with coffee, I am sure I could collect a hundred different coffee cups- this one was from a Starbucks in Washington D.C., but I have to limit myself. This routine of coffee in my hand is basically an “all day long” routine!
This is a shot from the tail end of the sunset. Just a few stars were starting to poke out. This is looking out over the Pacific Ocean from way up high in the Mountains over Ojai, CA.

The City of North Charleston was recently awarded the Above and Beyond Award by the South Carolina Committee of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR).
The Above and Beyond Award is given to a select few out of thousands of employers throughout the state and presented annually by each ESGR Committee. This award recognizes those employers at the state and local level who have gone above and beyond the legal requirements for granting leave and providing support for military duty by their Guard and Reserve employees.
North Charleston was nominated by Petty Officer First Class Scott Perry, US Navy Reserve of the Navy Security Force who is stationed at Joint Base Charleston. Petty Officer Perry is also an employee of the City of North Charleston Police Department.
The award was accepted at the ESGR's Annual Banquet in Columbia, SC on February 10, 2012.
ESGR is a Department of Defense organization. It is a staff group within the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, which is in itself a part of the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
ESGR was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve component members and their civilian employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee's military commitment. It is the lead DoD organization for this mission under DoD Directive 1250.1.
Today, ESGR operates through a network of thousands of volunteers throughout the nation and Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
