Conrail SD40 6271 leads a train loading at Emerald Mine No 1 at Waynesburg, PA on June 2, 1991.
The train is loading on the Emerald siding and the near track is the Waynesburg Southern Branch to the mines in West Virginia. The track diverging to the left is the Manor Branch to Bailey Mine with the switch being the junction at CP MAN at MP W0.8. Emerald Mine had a loadout that flood loaded trains with two separate dumpers thereby cutting the time required to load nearly in half as compared to other mines at the time.
Conrail SD40 6271 was built in January 1971 as PC 6271 and became CR 6271, it later was rebuilt to a SD40-2R in October 1993 as CR 6992 and became CSXT 8882.

On my second railfan day in Turkey I woke up with the intentions of getting some hotel breakfast before hitting the road. However, no sooner than I stepped out of the room to put the bags in the car did I hear the unmistakable unturbocharged roar of a pair of DE22s. Well, I guess I am not having breakfast....
Quickly drop the roomkeys and off I went towards Karabük.
Here at Bolkus I managed to find an open view to the Filyos Gorge in time to capture DE22 068 + 069 roaring upgrade towards Karabük.

A month since my laat visit Vermont Railway has been continuing to use ancient Green Mountain Railroad Alco RS1 405 in daily freight service on the Bellows Falls switcher assignment (train DASW). For decades this unit has almost exclusively been used only for service on the VRS' passenger seasonal excursion trains and perhaps would see use on revenue freights once or twice a year at most. So any time she's used for revenue service is special, and I'm hard pressed to think of anywhere else in the country an RS1 is used to haul freight anymore. For these reasons, I figured I should make the nearly 3 hr trip north to see her again!
Here is the ancient veteran built for the Rutland in November 1951 belching out some smoke as she throttles up in the yard at MP W0.1 on modern day VRS' North Walpole Industrial Track which is the north end of the old Boston and Maine Cheshire Branch and now is officially leased to NLR and under the control of the NLR Shop personnel.

Europe - Albania - Vlorë County - Albanian Riviera - Ksamil - Ksamili - Maritime village & one of the most frequented coastal resorts within Butrint National Park on coast of Adriatic & Ionian Sea, northernmost arm of Mediterranean Sea
During my wonderful 2 weeks in Albania I had mostly clear and very clear sky without a single cloud.This particular day brought a little bit of dramatic weather to have more diversity. This lovely beach looking towards Corfu island is just few kilometers from Butrint Archeological UNESCO site, where I spent 5 great days and nights capturing night sky over ancient Roman Ruins.

September's night sky might not show the best part of the Milky Way, with its most interesting part setting shortly after the start of the astronomical night, but it is still wonderful sight to experience, especially as you don't need to wait until 3AM like in April. One of the least explored European countries - Albania still offers great dark sky with limited light pollution, unless you are nearby popular Greek island of Corfu which produces way too much light.

Dhermi beach is such a wonderful place. The water could not be any more crystal clear, surrounding mountains more imposing and such rock formations more interesting. As one of my friends summed it up. Still one of those rock arches still standing, after those sad events in Malta or Morocco.

There are a few "anthills' in a crack in my driveway. I always marvel at the strength of these small, common, brown ants we see outside. This photo shows the relative sizes of the grains of sand to the ant. Rebuilding needs to take place, after yesterday's rain sent sand down into the tunnels. One by one, each grain will be carried up and out, by the marvelous teamwork and individual strength of the colony's members, and carefully placed to create another sandy hill. Interesting to see the bright reflection of the sun off a piece of mica, in the area towards the back of this ant.

which I have extensively tweaked and twiddled. Three images from mandelbulb3D were merged in Photomatrix Pro. The background is added in the mandelbulb program although it is simpler to add it late using Corel Photo Paint or other such software. The fractal object is not really as complicated as it appears to be. Tnis is rendered with a surface texture and parts of that texture (purely visual) is difficult to separate from the form of the object.

For these reasons, any time she is out and I can swing it I make the nearly 3 hr trip north to see her.
What is even more special is that this unit is very much on home rails having been built for the Rutland in November 1951. So that means she is approaching her 71st birthday in a few months and has never left the Green Mountain state!
Here is the ancient veteran at MP W0.0 on modern day VRS' North Walpole Industrial Track which is the north end of the old Boston and Maine Cheshire Branch and now is officially leased to NLR and under the control of the NLR Shop personnel. This view looks north off the closed Vilas Bridge at the 1899 twin stone arch former B&M bridge across the Connecticut River gorge and falls. The train is leaving the state of Vermont and crossing into North Walpole, New Hampshire here as 405 leads dead in tow GP38-3 207 (blt. Oct. 1969 as SOU 2718 as a high nosed straight GP38) which is headed to the paint booth in the old B&M roundhouse that is visible on the right side of the frame for fresh red VRS paint.
