Of the rarest geological phenomena, which "sculpted" over the years the rushing waters of the river Kalamas (Thyamis) is released "Theogefyro" (bridge made by God) near the village Lithino(Stonebuilt) in the Municipality of Zitsa Ioannina. Its length is about 45 meters, width 3-4 meters and located about 20 meters higher than the river.

More from Greece, this time Theogefyro (θεογέφυρο, meaning "God's bridge") near Lithino, Zitsa, Epirus (Λίθινο, Ζίτσα, Ήπειρος). A small chapel sits atop the natural stone arch and can just be made out in this shot. You could easily miss the arch unless you were looking for it as it's quite invisible from the road (which goes over a metal bridge above the stone arch).
5DII, 17-40mm, B+W polariser. Manual blend of 3 exposures, though I chose to leave the sky through the arch close to blowing out otherwise it looked too unnatural.
......bridge of god......
.... The name "Theogefyro" is GREEK .....
Bridge built by the hand of God .... From the rare geological phenomena, the result of work or better built by hermetic waters of Kalama .....
.... It is about 45 meters, a width of 3-4 meters and is 20 meters high above the waters of the river ......
So .. about 1800 was....
........ the main transportation hub for the villages at least on the right bank with Giannina ......!!
There anymore ..... ecstasy visitor accompanied by fear. There you see and understand what it means struggle between liberties of nature. Water against the rock. Once victorious from this battle came the liquid element. The result of this battle was the construction of Theogefyro. Of this natural phenomenon. Once the rock winner obliges waters well to find another way out. Above him, beside him, beneath him to continue their journey to their mother, the sea.
Kalamas river flows under Theogefyro (God's bridge), an interesting geological formation resulting from the rushing waters of the river. It is approximately 45m long, 3-4m wide and (today) 20m above the river. The location, in the municipality of Zagori in the Pindus mountains of Epirus is typically 5-6 degrees Celsius below anything around it, so I always try to come here during my summer visits in Ioannina.
Close to the village of Zitsa, Kalamas river passes from a very narrow point through the rocks where it has carved in thousands of years a natural bridge now called Theogefiro or "God's bridge". This is one of the definite highlights in the Epirus region and a must-see for every visitor. The natural bridge is 45m long, has a width of 3-4m and an arch height of about 20m. One can descend to the river and enjoy a spectacular view of nature's power and beauty.
Theogefyro, Ioannina Epirus, Greece - May 2015.
After Zitsa (Ioannina) near Lithino village, the Kalamas River made its miracle. It carved with its wild waters the huge rock and created a strange creature known as "The Theogefyro"
Its a rare geological phenomenon, a natural bridge which was carved by the rushing river Kalama.
Its about 45 meters long, 3-4 meters wide and is located about 20 meters higher than the river waters.

Sometimes ago, I published a shot from the same spot but it was done without a tripod.
I went back with my tripod to produce this new version.
HDR from 5 shots using Oloneo.
I was not totally satisfied about the HDR rendering on the water. So, I loaded one of the original shot and picked up the water from using layer mask.
I made a post HDR processing to desaturate the top of the picture which was too yellow.

Greek wines are one of the casualties of war.
Lack of pesticides and fertilizer have reduced both quantity and quality. In this vineyard at Zitsa, the wine centre of Epirus, UNRRA imported fertilizer plays its part in restoring the local industry. Photo by Mrs. V. Papaioannou. No. 5425.
At 500m, in the hills outside of Ioannina, Zitsa produces crisp, steely wines from the Debina grape; rather Riesling-like.
It was Kalamas river that created Theogefyro (God's bridge), by eroding the enormous rock to open an arch approximately 45m long, 3-4m wide and (today) 20m above the river. This quite hidden gem is located in the municipality of Zagori in the Pindus mountains of Epirus, after Zitsa, near Lithino village.
