I never imagined I could enjoy such an amazing day out!!
Literally millimetres from Stalactites and Stalagmites that have taken centuries to evolve, we swam and scrambled through tunnels and cenote waters up to 20 feet deep.
This private excursion courtesy of Grand Velas Hotel, was guided by 4 Worlds Expeditions, and started with ziplining and kayak over the stunning lagoon, then swim in pristine cenote waters, with little fish nibbling our toes.
Then walk around a typical Mayan village (no power, heating, lighting etc) & watch them building a school/church.
One of THE most memorable experiences of my life!
;-)
This was a popular attraction. The keeper attached a dead whole chicken to a moterized zipline and zoomed it up and down the cheetahs run pen. The cheetahs loved to chase after it, and stretch their legs a bit. It was great to see too. Not so much for seeing the poor chicken, but more seeing them be able to have that freedom. Not spending all day in a small enclosure.
One of the staff told us that they only do this with the female and her cubs. Apparently when it was tried with the males, they all ran away from it! They had no idea what it was or how to react!! Heh.
