Brussels Airport (IATA: BRU, ICAO: EBBR) is an international airport 6.5 NM (12.0 km; 7.5 mi) northeast of Brussels, the capital of Belgium.
In 2019, more than 26 million passengers arrived or departed at Brussels Airport, making it the 24th busiest airport in Europe. It is located in the municipality of Zaventem in the Province of Flemish Brabant in the Flemish Region of Belgium. It is home to around 260 companies, together directly employing 20,000 people and serves as the home base for Brussels Airlines and TUI fly Belgium.
The company operating the airport is known as The Brussels Airport Company N.V./S.A.; before 19 October 2006, the name was BIAC (Brussels International Airport Company), which was created by Belgian law through a merger of BATC with the ground operations departments of the RLW/RVA. Since 2011, the airport has been owned by the Toronto-based Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (39%), Macquarie Group (Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund I and Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund III) (36%) and the Belgian State (25%).
On 22 March 2016, the airport's departures hall was severely damaged by two terrorist bomb blasts. The airport was closed until 3 April 2016, when it was reopened with temporary facilities at less than 20% of its previous capacity. It has since returned to full operations, with a record of 90,000 passengers on 29 July 2016.
The church was completed in 1766, but its bell tower dates from end of the 13th century. The church was listed in 1942 as a monument

De kerk werd voltooid in 1766, maar de klokkentoren De toren dateert uit het einde van de 13e eeuw. De kerk werd in 1942 beschermd als monument.

Yesterday, I went to the airport to welcome my niece and her family, who had come to spend two weeks in Brussels. Upon arrival, I encountered many people of Tibetan origin dressed in traditional attire. Two individuals particularly caught my eye: a young couple who seemed to be waiting for someone important. They were holding a *Khata*—the auspicious scarf that Buddhists offer on many occasions. It appeared that a significant part of the Tibetan community had gathered to await a prominent figure. Unfortunately, I will never know who it was, as I left before their arrival!
Hier je suis allé à l'aéroport pour accueillir ma nièce et sa famille, venue passer deux semaines à Bruxelles. À mon arrivée, j'ai croisé de nombreuses personnes d'origine tibétaine en tenues traditionnelles. Deux personnes ont particulièrement attiré mon attention : un jeune couple qui semblait attendre quelqu'un d'important. Ils tenaient une *Khata*, l'écharpe cérémonielle que les bouddhistes offrent en de nombreuses occasions. Il semblait qu'une grande partie de la communauté tibétaine s'était rassemblée pour attendre une personnalité marquante. Malheureusement, je ne saurai jamais de qui il s'agissait, car je suis parti avant son arrivée !
Ieri sono andata all'aeroporto per accogliere mia nipote e la sua famiglia, venuta a trascorrere due settimane a Bruxelles. Al mio arrivo, ho incontrato molte persone di origine tibetana in abiti tradizionali. Due persone in particolare hanno attirato la mia attenzione: una giovane coppia che sembrava attendere qualcuno di importante. Tenevano in mano una *Khata*, la sciarpa cerimoniale che i buddisti offrono in molte occasioni. Sembrava che gran parte della comunità tibetana si fosse riunita per attendere una personalità importante. Purtroppo non saprò mai di chi si trattasse, poiché me ne sono andata prima del suo arrivo.
Op 1 oktober was ik voor de tweede keer dit najaar van plan om met wat vrienden naar Quévy te gaan.
De afgelopen maanden heb ik veel pogingen ondernomen om HLE21/27 te fotograferen:

Heel wat geprobeerd dus, maar jammer genoeg zijn er uiteindelijk maar 2,5 geslaagde foto’s uit de bus gekomen: HLE2741 in Zaventem en HLE2124 in Galmaarden. Ook de foto van de HLE27 in Jurbeke was zonnig, maar de locomotief was zo erg onder de graffiti dat ik de foto niet noemswaardig vind. Ook was de plek niet ideaal.
Het blijft natuurlijk erg jammer dat mijn toch al bescheiden album van de HLE21/27 niet verder uitgebreid zal worden. Vandaag, 12 november 2025, was waarschijnlijk mijn laatste poging om een zonfoto te maken in Tubeke van de P8800. Helaas zat er een dikke sluier voor de zon, waardoor het beeld volledig verprutst werd.
Einde negativiteit :
Al mijn geluk is blijkbaar opgegaan aan de foto in Galmaarden. Daar kwam de zon op precies het juiste moment fraai door, precies zoals ik het wilde. Op nog één andere plek lukte het om een HLE27 in de zon te krijgen, en dat was in Zaventem. Daar bevindt zich een brug die velen wel kennen als ze regelmatig over lijn 36 rijden – de gebouwen op de achtergrond zijn snel herkenbaar.
Na school vroeg ik me af of het mogelijk was om van deze - toch wel herkenbare plek - een foto te maken. De bedoeling was natuurlijk om een HLE27 hier te zien, deze zou om 14h30 ongeveer de luchthaven verlaten. Een locatie die me interessant leek om nog eens een 27 te krijgen, al vroeg ik me af of het überhaupt mogelijk was om daar een mooie foto te maken.
Bij aankomst vond ik het allemaal niet zo knap ogen, maar na de passage was ik toch best tevreden. Achteraf gezien bleek het een verrassend toffe foto te zijn – zeker wetende dat het een van de laatste keren was dat hier nog een reeks 27 voorbijreed. Hierna werd naar Quevy gegaan, waar de zon zich niet meer liet zien voor de trein die vanaf Mons was afgeschaft...

"Une double explosion a eu lieu ce mardi matin à l’aéroport de Zaventem. Vers 8 heures, deux explosions retentissent à Brussels Airport. Selon des témoins sur place, des tirs auraient d’abord été entendus dans le hall des départs de l’aéroport avant qu’une personne ne lance des cris en arabe et qu’on entende deux explosions.
14 personnes sont décédées et 96 sont blessées, selon un bilan toujours provisoire. Un sinistre ballet de corbillards a évacué les dépouilles des victimes toute la matinée." (Le Soir)
