The Port Authority Building (Dutch: Havenhuis), or the Port House, is a government building located in Antwerp, Belgium, built between 2009 and 2016.

It is located near the area of Eilandje, in the Port of Antwerp, and acts as the new headquarters of the Antwerp Port Authority, housing various departments.

Designed by Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid, the building opened in 2016, the year of her death. It is the sole government building designed by Hadid. The design of the building incorporates the use of a fire station, integrating it into the building. Attached above and connected to the fire station is a contemporary diamond-shaped structure marked by straight edges, with an additional column providing support from the floor.

The building houses approximately 500 employees, and acts as a meeting place for international contacts of the Antwerp port community. According to the Antwerp Port Authority, the building is meant to "symbolise the dynamic, reliable, ambitious and innovative nature" of the Port of Antwerp.

I was mesmerised by the building when I first saw it and I knew right away I had to come back to explore this building with my camera. I was drinking a Japanese beer with a friend of mine who studies at this university; she mentioned that this building is actually designed by the late Zaha Hadid and a lot of people have taken photos of the building but they all look the same. Arrogantly, I immediately said I will come back and take one you have never seen before. I am pretty happy with the result but please call me out if you ever come across a take similar to this dated before 25/11/2016 ;).

Some technical points, this photo was taken at ISO2500, 1/60, f/5.6 with a Sony A7. Sometimes you get these noisy purple-ish tone in the shadows especially when the ISO is starting to be high. However I actually have stopped doing noise reduction in my photos for a long time and I didn't do any noise reduction again with this photo despite the higher than perfect ISO. The point I want to make is that don't be afraid of high ISOs and noise. The purpleish tone from the noise and the refracted street lights are playing an important role with the overall mood in this photo in my opinion. It's also important to note that different cameras have a different level of ISO tolerance so the ISO number I provided is only a reference but the overall main point remains.

Thanks for reading and have a lovely day :),

The Bridge Pavilion (Spanish: Pabellón Puente) is a building designed by British-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid that was constructed for the Expo 2008 in Zaragoza (Spain) as one of its main landmarks. It is an innovative 280-metre-long (919 ft) covered bridge that imitates a gladiola over the river Ebro, connecting the neighbourhood of La Almozara with the exposition site, and thus becoming its main entrance. The new bridge is, at the same time, a multi-level exhibition area; 10,000 visitors per hour were expected to frequent the Pavilion during world exhibition. (Wikipedia)

"I don't think that architecture is only about shelter, is only about a very simple enclosure. It should be able to excite you, to calm you, to make you think." Zaha Hadid
