Yule is from the early Germanic tribes that decorated trees in honor of Odin for the Pagan Winter Solstice (there is much more history to it also).
Dr Thomas Noodles, MD enjoying the staircase mini tree with me. Before Dracula’s mom gave us her old large faux tree we had two small trees we got after the season ended one year. That last house was pretty small and we genuinely weren’t sure we’d have space for a big tree. I still can’t bear to part with the little trees and honestly having some sparkle lights and cheer in various spaces in the house is making the dark days feel a little better.

Celebrate the 25th Annual Holiday Lighting in Central Park.
After missing out last year, this is a must-do event for families! See the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center light up with holiday lights and take part in a number of seasonal festivities including: singing carols, watching ice carving demonstrations and enjoying treats. You can expect to see Santa and have a chance to take photos with your own camera. The evening concludes with a flotilla of illuminated trees on the Harlem Meer.

The event includes a live countdown to lighting a dazzling flotilla of trees on the Meer, a poem read by Conservancy staff, and more holiday fun. Charles A. Dana Discovery Center
The Charles A. Dana Discovery Center holds a multitude of educational workshops throughout the year and a Catch & Release fishing program for youths.
The Charles A. Dana Discovery Center was opened in 1993 as one of the park's main visitor centers. Named after Charles A. Dana, former editor of the New York Tribune and mediator between General Grand and Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War, the Discovery Center holds a multitude of educational workshops throughout the year.
In addition to hosting environmental programs for children, the Discovery Center also teaches kids about wildlife firsthand.
The Catch and Release fishing program at the Harlem Meer includes complimentary instruction, poles, and bait. This activity is primarily geared toward children ages 5 to 15.

The Dickens Festival is a celebration of the author of A Christmas Carol, featuring the Village of Port Jefferson magically transformed into the Dickensian era with streets filled with roaming characters such as Father Christmas, Dickens Mayor, Scrooge, the Town Crier and the beloved chimney sweeps.
The 21st Annual Dickens Festival concludes with a Parade of Puppets and ceremony at Village Hall on Sunday evening.

First beginning in 1963 with the homes previous owner, the tradition is been carried on by Brooklyn’s Democratic Party Chairman Hon. Frank Seddio, who purchased the property in 1986. Since then, the holiday display has grown tenfold, now consisting of $350,000 + worth of decorations, including almost 100 unique moving parts and more than 50,000 lights and spanning eight holiday-themed displays, the show dazzles visitors from all over the borough with its extravagance and detail.
Some state that the Canarsie Brooklyn Christmas Lights are the inspiration of the Dyker Heights Christmas lights of Brooklyn NY
Lucy Spata started the Dyker Heights Christmas Lights tradition ( D train to 79th St / New Utrecht Ave) when she moved to the neighborhood in the 1980s. She decorates her house to to carry on the tradition her mother had started. In fact, all the angel decorations you see here are in honor her mom’s memory.

Normally we celebrate your favorite winter holiday at Washington Square two evenings in December when The Washington Square Association provides the opportunity to sing yuletide carols in downtown’s historic park. We will be gathering under the arch and we will also be live streaming the lighting on our page. We ask that you respect the safety of your fellow Villagers. The Association provides the annual 45-foot Christmas tree under the Arch that is lit for the season between the hours of 4 pm and 1 am.

We will gather under the arch and also stream The Rob Susman Brass Quartet and a singer sing holiday songs. The multi-colored lights on the resplendent tree will be turned on to mark the beginning of festive winter evenings.

Caroling Christmas Eve
Christmas Eve, at 5 pm is the traditional time to celebrate the holiday with carols at the Washington Square Arch. “Peace on Earth, Good Will to Men” will ring out to remind us all of the true meaning of the holidays as we celebrate virtually from our homes.

Christmas Eve, December 24 at 5 pm is the traditional time to celebrate
the holiday with carols near the Washington Square Arch. The Rob Susman Brass
Quartet, song leader, and the revelers from all over the city will lustily sing out the
familiar tunes. The words are in the songbooks distributed by the Washington
Square Association, but many will know them by heart. “Peace on Earth, Good Will
to Men” will ring out and is especially meaningful this season

The Washington Square Association, Inc. founded in 1906, is one of the city’s oldest community organizations. For 106 years, it has sponsored carol singing under the arch. Come see the 45ft tree light up under the Washington Square Park arch — There will be caroling, a brass band, and a visit from Santa! Stop by again on Christmas Eve for a special time of caroling under the Arch.

Washington Square Park is a 9.75-acre public park in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Lower Manhattan, New York City. One of the best known of New York City's public parks, it is an icon as well as a meeting place and center for cultural activity. It is operated by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation (NYC Parks).
The park is an open space, dominated by the Washington Square Arch at the northern gateway to the park, with a tradition of celebrating nonconformity. The park's fountain area has long been one of the city's popular spots.

Greenwich Village is a neighborhood on the west side of Lower Manhattan in New York City, bounded by 14th Street to the north, Broadway to the east, Houston Street to the south, and the Hudson River to the west. Greenwich Village also contains several subsections, including the West Village west of Seventh Avenue and the Meatpacking District in the northwest corner of Greenwich Village.

First beginning in 1963 with the homes previous owner, the tradition is been carried on by Brooklyn’s Democratic Party Chairman Hon. Frank Seddio, who purchased the property in 1986. Since then, the holiday display has grown tenfold, now consisting of $350,000 + worth of decorations, including almost 100 unique moving parts and more than 50,000 lights and spanning eight holiday-themed displays, the show dazzles visitors from all over the borough with its extravagance and detail.
Some state that the Canarsie Brooklyn Christmas Lights are the inspiration of the Dyker Heights Christmas lights of Brooklyn NY
Lucy Spata started the Dyker Heights Christmas Lights tradition ( D train to 79th St / New Utrecht Ave) when she moved to the neighborhood in the 1980s. She decorates her house to to carry on the tradition her mother had started. In fact, all the angel decorations you see here are in honor her mom’s memory.

Charles A. Dana Discovery Center
The Charles A. Dana Discovery Center holds a multitude of educational workshops throughout the year and a Catch & Release fishing program for youths.
The Charles A. Dana Discovery Center was opened in 1993 as one of the park's main visitor centers. Named after Charles A. Dana, former editor of the New York Tribune and mediator between General Grand and Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War, the Discovery Center holds a multitude of educational workshops throughout the year.
In addition to hosting environmental programs for children, the Discovery Center also teaches kids about wildlife firsthand.
The Catch and Release fishing program at the Harlem Meer includes complimentary instruction, poles, and bait. This activity is primarily geared toward children ages 5 to 15.

After 20 years of Winter’s Eve at Lincoln Square, the Lincoln Square BID is pleased to share that we are planning a new and different holiday celebration by offering the community and visitors a month-long series of smaller pop-up family friendly performances and activations for everyone to enjoy.
Although we are bringing back a holiday tree at Dante Park, a large tree lighting celebration will remain on pause. We are excited to announce that the successful Tumbling Brights–our whimsical illuminated sculptures launched during our darker days of COVID-19 last year–will return with five additional installations in the heart of our district. More details on activations, which includes our neighborhood holiday lighting program and other surprises, will be announced in the near future so the community and visitors will be able to celebrate the holidays and support local businesses, restaurants and cultural institutions in the Lincoln Square neighborhood throughout the entire holiday season.

The holidays are here and the Lincoln Square BID is celebrating the neighborhood's comeback with the return of the Lincoln Square Holiday Tree; an expansion of Tumbling Brights; and a month-long series of pop-up, family-friendly performances. The festivities will begin tonight, Monday, December 6, rain or shine, when we officially light our Holiday Tree at Dante Park with Frank London and the Klezmer Brass Allstars!

A Public Space at the Heart of Our City
Madison Square Park is a six point two acre green space at the heart of New York City that has been public land since 1686. Over the centuries, it has played a part in the city’s rich history, providing space for everything from the invention of baseball to fundraising efforts for the Statue of Liberty.
Just like New York City, Madison Square Park is a place where many different people and things come together. Surrounded by landmark architecture and vibrant businesses, it is home to some of the world’s best art and horticulture exhibitions. It is a public garden, a playground, an open-air museum, a dog park, a performance venue, an eatery, an arboretum, a gathering place, and a sanctuary. It is a space that belongs to everyone, and that each of us can make our own.
The park is managed by Madison Square Park Conservancy, a non-profit that is fully funded by the community.

The classic tree lighting that may be one of the oldest still celebrated in the city! Madison Square Park was the site of a public Christmas tree in 1912, so 2021 will be the 109th year a tree has been displayed in the park!

A Public Space at the Heart of Our City
Madison Square Park is a six point two acre green space at the heart of New York City that has been public land since 1686. Over the centuries, it has played a part in the city’s rich history, providing space for everything from the invention of baseball to fundraising efforts for the Statue of Liberty.
Just like New York City, Madison Square Park is a place where many different people and things come together. Surrounded by landmark architecture and vibrant businesses, it is home to some of the world’s best art and horticulture exhibitions. It is a public garden, a playground, an open-air museum, a dog park, a performance venue, an eatery, an arboretum, a gathering place, and a sanctuary. It is a space that belongs to everyone, and that each of us can make our own.
The park is managed by Madison Square Park Conservancy, a non-profit that is fully funded by the community.

Madison Square is a public square formed by the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Broadway at 23rd Street in the New York City borough of Manhattan. The square was named for James Madison, fourth President of the United States. The event includes a live countdown to lighting a dazzling flotilla of trees on the Meer, a poem read by Conservancy staff, and more holiday fun. Cozy up with some cocoa (check out our recipes below), get your song sheets ready, and carol into the night with this festive evening hosted by the Women’s Committee of the Central Park Conservancy.

Charles A. Dana Discovery Center
The Charles A. Dana Discovery Center holds a multitude of educational workshops throughout the year and a Catch & Release fishing program for youths.
The Charles A. Dana Discovery Center was opened in 1993 as one of the park's main visitor centers. Named after Charles A. Dana, former editor of the New York Tribune and mediator between General Grand and Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War, the Discovery Center holds a multitude of educational workshops throughout the year.
In addition to hosting environmental programs for children, the Discovery Center also teaches kids about wildlife firsthand.
The Catch and Release fishing program at the Harlem Meer includes complimentary instruction, poles, and bait. This activity is primarily geared toward children ages 5 to 15.

After 20 years of Winter’s Eve at Lincoln Square, the Lincoln Square BID is pleased to share that we are planning a new and different holiday celebration by offering the community and visitors a month-long series of smaller pop-up family friendly performances and activations for everyone to enjoy.
Although we are bringing back a holiday tree at Dante Park, a large tree lighting celebration will remain on pause. We are excited to announce that the successful Tumbling Brights–our whimsical illuminated sculptures launched during our darker days of COVID-19 last year–will return with five additional installations in the heart of our district. More details on activations, which includes our neighborhood holiday lighting program and other surprises, will be announced in the near future so the community and visitors will be able to celebrate the holidays and support local businesses, restaurants and cultural institutions in the Lincoln Square neighborhood throughout the entire holiday season.

The holidays are here and the Lincoln Square BID is celebrating the neighborhood's comeback with the return of the Lincoln Square Holiday Tree; an expansion of Tumbling Brights; and a month-long series of pop-up, family-friendly performances. The festivities will begin tonight, Monday, December 6, rain or shine, when we officially light our Holiday Tree at Dante Park with Frank London and the Klezmer Brass Allstars!

Dr Thomas Noodles, MD enjoying the staircase mini tree with me. Before Dracula’s mom gave us her old large faux tree we had two small trees we got after the season ended one year. That last house was pretty small and we genuinely weren’t sure we’d have space for a big tree. I still can’t bear to part with the little trees and honestly having some sparkle lights and cheer in various spaces in the house is making the dark days feel a little better.

After missing out last year, this is a must-do event for families! See the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center light up with holiday lights and take part in a number of seasonal festivities including: singing carols, watching ice carving demonstrations and enjoying treats. You can expect to see Santa and have a chance to take photos with your own camera. The evening concludes with a flotilla of illuminated trees on the Harlem Meer.

The Charles A. Dana Discovery Center holds a multitude of educational workshops throughout the year and a Catch & Release fishing program for youths.
The Charles A. Dana Discovery Center was opened in 1993 as one of the park's main visitor centers. Named after Charles A. Dana, former editor of the New York Tribune and mediator between General Grand and Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War, the Discovery Center holds a multitude of educational workshops throughout the year.
In addition to hosting environmental programs for children, the Discovery Center also teaches kids about wildlife firsthand.
The Catch and Release fishing program at the Harlem Meer includes complimentary instruction, poles, and bait. This activity is primarily geared toward children ages 5 to 15.

Charles A. Dana Discovery Center
The Charles A. Dana Discovery Center holds a multitude of educational workshops throughout the year and a Catch & Release fishing program for youths.
The Charles A. Dana Discovery Center was opened in 1993 as one of the park's main visitor centers. Named after Charles A. Dana, former editor of the New York Tribune and mediator between General Grand and Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War, the Discovery Center holds a multitude of educational workshops throughout the year.
In addition to hosting environmental programs for children, the Discovery Center also teaches kids about wildlife firsthand.
The Catch and Release fishing program at the Harlem Meer includes complimentary instruction, poles, and bait. This activity is primarily geared toward children ages 5 to 15.

Celebrate the 25th Annual Holiday Lighting in Central Park.
After missing out last year, this is a must-do event for families! See the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center light up with holiday lights and take part in a number of seasonal festivities including: singing carols, watching ice carving demonstrations and enjoying treats. You can expect to see Santa and have a chance to take photos with your own camera. The evening concludes with a flotilla of illuminated trees on the Harlem Meer.

After 20 years of Winter’s Eve at Lincoln Square, the Lincoln Square BID is pleased to share that we are planning a new and different holiday celebration by offering the community and visitors a month-long series of smaller pop-up family friendly performances and activations for everyone to enjoy.
Although we are bringing back a holiday tree at Dante Park, a large tree lighting celebration will remain on pause. We are excited to announce that the successful Tumbling Brights–our whimsical illuminated sculptures launched during our darker days of COVID-19 last year–will return with five additional installations in the heart of our district. More details on activations, which includes our neighborhood holiday lighting program and other surprises, will be announced in the near future so the community and visitors will be able to celebrate the holidays and support local businesses, restaurants and cultural institutions in the Lincoln Square neighborhood throughout the entire holiday season.

The holidays are here and the Lincoln Square BID is celebrating the neighborhood's comeback with the return of the Lincoln Square Holiday Tree; an expansion of Tumbling Brights; and a month-long series of pop-up, family-friendly performances. The festivities will begin tonight, Monday, December 6, rain or shine, when we officially light our Holiday Tree at Dante Park with Frank London and the Klezmer Brass Allstars!
We're also highlighting special holiday programming and deals around the neighborhood this month, so if you're a Lincoln Square BID business or cultural organization with a holiday offer, menu, gift guide, or other seasonal special, let us know what you're doing and we will promote it on our website, on social media and in our weekly eblast so that locals and visitors will know what's happening in Lincoln Square!
