On our way back from exploring today, we took a four-wheel drive through Yankee Basin outside of Ouray. It was another great drive with amazing views all along the way. There is a stream next to the road that also gave us some nice waterfall opportunities. We read online before we came on the trip that July is the best month to see wildflowers in the mountains. Boy were they right. The mountains were full of colorful flowers on every trail we went on during this trip. There are so many areas to explore around Silverton and Ouray. I can't wait until my next trip back.

Abandoned boat on Schoolhouse Beach, Washington Island, Door Co., Wisconsin. Likely once employed to pull gill nets, a practice now outlawed.

We started the day out of Siverton and went over the Ophir Pass. On the way back when we got to Ouray, we decided to go up to Yankee Basin. The drive wasn't too challenging, and the views were pretty spectacular. We stopped next to a series of waterfalls and this field of flowers.

When we were researching the trails, we found out that July is when the flowers bloom in the high country. Boy were they right as you can see. We were above 10,000 most of the time, and we saw flowers along every trail we drove on. I'm definitely going to try to come back again. We left a lot of trails unexplored.

The 4WD trail to Yankee Boy Basin was quite the challenge. I was kinda proud of myself and Wanda (my 4Runner) when we made it all the way to the top.

The payoff was the wildflowers were blooming and the light softened on and off for us. Overall, lots of fun.

Yankees…

Yankees…

I know the picture is not perfect. I still have hard time to ask people to let me picture them, so I steal my shots. Here we are on the ferry and this man is for me a good example of the sports fan New Yorker… (I say that and I bought in NYC a jacket and caps of the Yankees! ) If some FlickR's photographs who are visiting my stream can give me advices on this kind of candid pictures, it'll be nice!
