Valid xhtml try #1
earlier today I started to install amaya to build some valid xhtml. First I used ubuntu synaptic (first choice) installer. Installed, fired up amaya and it barfed as I tried to run it. Maybe some libs haven't been installed? So I un-install, then use apt-get install amaya. Still the same problems.

Next download cvs (mozilla is still on cvs) & grabbed the latest amaya cvs source. Tried to compile, failed. Not enough libs for Mesa (even when I explicitly excluded it). Downloaded some more libs. Tried again failed.

Delve into configure file, find where the offending failure occurs. Comment out and run configure, fail. Maybe it's library paths? ldconfig -v. Nothing. Kill shell & reload, no good. Hmmm. Check forums. Edgy release for amaya has bug and while it's been flagged, nothing has yet been done.

Search google for tidy & Firefox. Download HTML Validator (0.70 version as it has 64 bit) and run. Works first time. Download nvu. Works first time. Create simple template in nvu, add to django templates and reload server. Works. Right mouse click on HTML Validator and correct errors. Re-paste into base template. Works.
Lessons
Now I have an instant validation within the browser and I can see the validity status. More and more useful functionality is being transferred into Mozilla and Firefox. Complex apps with lots of functionality are not necessarily the best way to get functionality.
Why do I need mesa in amaya if I have gtk? (mesa is an alternative software renderer).

The previous days' rains have stopped, just in time. The morning of the Canada Army Run 5k and half-marathon (21.1k) races is shining brightly. The temperature is in the low teens (Celsius), and Elgin Street (looking south) is packed with the 8,500 registered runners, most of whom have been training for months to participate in this sold-out event.
Since today's army run events don't include a marathon race, there is a slightly higher proportion of men than women in this race. During the May Ottawa Race Weekend each year, the half-marathon race has a large majority of women racers, while the men predominate in the marathon contest.
