The Goals of the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary are:
To continue our efforts of rescue, sanctuary and education.
To create viable, financially stable programs and services that will aid in sustaining our non-profit.
To become an educational destination.
To provide the public with a fun and exciting place to visit and learn
To become a model for other animal sanctuary non-profits in the areas of: Rescue, Sanctuary, animal care, business and education.

The Mexican Gray Wolf (Canis lupus baileyi) is the rarest and most genetically distinct species of Gray Wolves in North America. They are also the smallest species and its' main prey is the White-Tailed deer, though it will prey upon other ungulate species as well. They hunt in packs of 5 or 6 and adults usually mate for life. Our zoo is one of a few that is helping with the reintroduction program for this species.

More than 30 Loyola students, alumni, and staff helped the New Orleans Food & Farm Network lay the ground work for a community garden on S. Robertson Street in the Freret Street neighborhood. The project was part of Wolves on the Prowl, Loyola University New Orleans' annual day of community service, Oct. 20, 2012.

Our dear Lakota George has passed on into the Dreamtime. He died as 2007 rolled in. It was quite a shock to us all - most likely a heart attack. (He was diagnosed with a heart murmur earlier.) At the time of this post Sam, founder of NCWR, is waiting to hear from the vet and for Lakota's ashes to be returned home. Although referred to as the grey wolf, they do in fact have a number of different coat colours. They can be grey, red, brown, black or even white. The wolf is the ancestor of all breeds of domestic dog; however, a wolf’s tail is straight and does not curl like those of many dog breeds. They also have extremely powerful jaws that can generate twice the downward pressure of a German shepherd’s.
