Here’s my attempt on the wire sculpture assignment. I decided to stick with the whole nature and/or Spring theme as from the previous assignment. Truly, do have a love for Spring and nature, which is why I decided to incorporate this theme onto this assignment. So, what doesn’t say Spring/nature without butterflies, color, and flower petals? Reasons why I decided to create this wire sculpture.
I knew during my brainstorming process that I didn’t want my sculpture to be bland and lifeless. As I was searching for ways to add life to my wire sculpture, I came across this art technique/craft called dipped wire. Where you take your wire sculpture/piece, dip it into wood glue [not once but twice throughout the process, maybe add some color if wanted, and let it set to dry. Which in the end, gives you a dipped wire sculpture/piece. I personally thought the idea was unique and what I needed to give my sculpture more life, which is why I decided to use this technique. The emphasis is on the dipped wire petals and/or the color. There’s a balance as well with the color the petals posses and the blandness of the butterfly wire sculpture. To keep the sculpture altogether, I used a half of a foam sphere. Those added details bring some sort of harmony onto the sculpture for those reasons are why I was pleased on how it turned out.
Usually, I work hard to eliminate overhewd wires from my photos, often resorting to Photoshop to remove them when they interfere with what I am interested in showing. This is especially so when I am working on architectural shots.
We were visiting Clarksburg, ON on Thursday and I noticed all the wires overhead which caught my interest, especially with the dark blue sky and clouds behind them. So I decised to focus on them and see what I could do, intentionally putting them into the frame.
Now I am trying to figure out if they work best in colour or B&W. I can't say I have a real preference, although I am leaning towards the B&W images.
There are four shots in this series I would value your opinion and any critique on how the shots could have been improved.

Safety wire keeps vibration from loosening things. Special spinning pliers called "swipes" are used to tighten the wire.
A few notes on shooting through cages - this regal eagle's exhibit is enclosed by thin vertical wires. You can shoot right through those wires as long as the bird is some distance away from the wire and you're using a long focal length (400mm). If I tried to back off and get the whole bird, I gained more depth of field from the shorter focal length, and the wires started to be apparent. So I settled for head shots. Also, of course, the lens aperture should be wide open. You can find this pretty girl at The Living Desert, in the Eagle Canyon area.
