My good friend Russell made 30 glow wire suits for all of us to wear on Lower Bay Beach in Bequia on my birthday this past 11--11-11. The result was spectacular! The blackness of the night as a backdrop created an amazing effect. Enjoy!

This is telegraph wire, around 110 years old, along 3rd Street in Oakland CA. From the green patina I'm guessing it's some copper alloy.

A first attempt and the last for a while... One of the sparks hit and lit the rest of the wire wool!

This is one of my Wire Wall Murals. I’ve been making them on a commission basis for more than twenty years.

A Wire Wall Mural is the final step in a simplification process that starts with a photograph or group of photographs. I make and remake the line drawing to emphasize only the essence of the subject.

I ask, "What is it about this image that's unique." Then I strip away the lines that are not required to convey that "uniqueness." Finally, like the poet who reviews every word, I re-examine every turn and curve as I bend the image into a large line drawing in space. The final installation, a solid line in front of a moving shadow, has scale enough to suit a large space without dominating the room.
