Combining the Pano-Sabotage technique with multi-image layering and compositing. For the first time using text purely as line, as another aspect of drawing. Hints of pixelation are used to quietly texturize in a few discreet places.

I decided to make a jump from having text that conveyed meaning in a single language ( English ) to taking it beyond that specificity and using it more as a metaphor and as a purely formal, visual device. Now it's not tied to any culture or tradition, except maybe a broadly Western one. When I can I'll find a way to incorporate non-Western fonts and text. Numbers are in the queue of recent images waiting to be posted.

A bright, nearly half moon glows behind the silhouette of leafless branches, creating a layered pattern of dark lines against the luminous sky. A sweeping cloud drifts past the moon, catching a soft glow along its edge with a warm hint of orange on the far side. The surrounding night sky remains deep and dark, emphasizing the contrast between the bright moon, the drifting cloud, and the stark tree silhouette.

I made this image on a quiet night, aiming to capture the way the moonlight backlit the branches while the passing cloud added motion and color. The contrast between the sharp silhouettes and moving light made the scene feel atmospheric and fleeting.

A Common Chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs) rests lightly on a bare branch, framed by soft winter tones.

A Eurasian Blue Tit (Cyanistes caeruleus) drops between bare branches, wings fully spread like a delicate fan.

I wish I had used a higher shutter speed.

I just saw this and liked it, with the bare branches against the sky.

Thank you for the favourites. :O)

A Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo) rests in silhouette, bowed slightly against the pale sky. A moment of watchful calm before movement returns.

Sunrise on March 1st at 6:30 AM in Sveta Nedelja, Croatia.

The red sun slowly rises through morning mist, framed by bare winter branches. A quiet transition between seasons — winter still present in the trees, but spring already hinted at in the light.

Crows are forming or reinforcing strong pair bonds this time of year.

A single crow on branch in winter.

LOVERS, forget your love,

And list to the love of these,

She a window flower,

And he a winter breeze.

When the frosty window veil

Was melted down at noon,

And the cagèd yellow bird

Hung over her in tune,

He marked her through the pane,

He could not help but mark,

And only passed her by,

To come again at dark.

He was a winter wind,

Concerned with ice and snow,

Dead weeds and unmated birds,

And little of love could know.

But he sighed upon the sill,

He gave the sash a shake,

As witness all within

Who lay that night awake.

Perchance he half prevailed

To win her for the flight

From the firelit looking-glass

And warm stove-window light.

But the flower leaned aside

And thought of naught to say,

And morning found the breeze

A hundred miles away.

This was going to be my photo for today, until about half an hour ago. Although it was sunny today, it was also jolly cold and I didn't even want to pick up my camera, let alone go out for a walk.

By teatime I did think it would be a bit stupid if I didn't take something; so when Izzy asked to go out, I picked up my camera and joined her in the garden.

The birds had all gone home and there wasn't even a daisy in the grass, so I looked at the apple tree and said to myself, it'll have to do.

"Three Silhouette Trees" by Patti Deters. This striking artwork features three leafless tree silhouettes set against a deep cobalt blue background. Rendered in minimalist creamy white tones, each tree showcases a unique branching pattern, highlighting the natural variation and beauty of deciduous trees in winter. The simplicity of the composition and the high contrast color palette give the image a modern and elegant aesthetic, perfect for contemporary design and digital decor. In a world dominated by color and noise, these stark white trees whisper stories of stillness and resilience. Stripped of their leaves, they stand tall - each a different character shaped by time and elements. This image invites viewers to pause, reflect, and appreciate the quiet power of simplicity. Winter branches on a blue sky. The cloud began to win the battle. It was cloudy and horrible this afternoon.

The poetry of nature is written in silhouettes like this—a tree’s tangled branches reaching for the heavens, each twist and curve a verse of its own. I can’t help but feel a quiet awe in moments like these, where even the simplest outline against the sky tells a story older than us all. It’s a reminder that beauty doesn’t have to shout—it just stands there, rooted, patient, and profound.

Quite a contrast to the other day when I took a similar photo of these trees in the car park:

As I was on Rufus duties this morning I took my camera out with me too. The sun had made an appearance and I didn't want to miss a chance. It clouded over again this afternoon.

3rd November 2018:

It felt freezing cold out today, even Izzy didn't ask to go out as much as usual, but there was a lovely blue sky and some sunshine, which helped.

I nipped into the garden and took the tree that has now lost almost all its leaves. I liked how it looked with the lovely blue sky.
