When I took the car in to replace the punctured tire, I also had them do an oil change and asked them to fix the front license plate frame because it was falling off the car. During their work, they recommended we do a tire rotation too and reminded me our belts needed to be replaced. Badly. Over three hours later and $400 poorer, I finally left the dealership with my beloved car.
I waited in the back break room area so I could sit at the little table and play my Nintendo DS. I heard a strange noise from the front of the dealership, breaking glass. A lot of it. When I got up and looked, these guys were knocking out one of the windows. It was interesting to see their procedure for this. The window was safety glass, like car windows, so it cracked into thousands of tiny pieces that stuck together. The guy on the stepladder was using a 2x4 chunk of wood to tap at the sections of cracked glass until they broke free completely and fell to the floor. You can see how much of the glass scattered beyond the small tarp they put on the floor, and I don't even know how much glass ended up outside. It took them a little while to knock out all the glass, then they swept and vacuumed up the mess. I forgot about it after that and didn't notice what they had completed by the time I left.

I think when I do the other windows, I'll just give them a good push and see if they simply fall out. I have a sneaking suspicion that they will.

I put in the storm windows last year. No they didn't really help much. The glass in the window was no longer as cold to the touch, but the leak was coming from somewhere else. At least the storm windows didn't cost much, and they made the house look better.

BTW. When I do the siding on the house. I'll have to rip all the old siding off. I found no evidence of any type of house wrap or felt paper between the current worn out siding and the board underneath it. Maybe I'll piss off the neighbors and just do one side each year until done.
The left side has much more play then the right side, but I can use my pry bar to move either side. The top doesn't want to give to the pry bar though. I decide to pry out the bottom of the window, I have a feeling that the window will just slide out. And it does. Someone in the past put a replacement window into the rough opening. One side was somewhat tight so they just let it sit in the opening and jammed fiberglass in to keep it still!
And as expected. Nothing in stock that I can take home. But the guy working the window department did seem to know his stuff and got a great kick out of the pictures. I get a quote on windows for the bedroom and I stop by Menards to see what is in stock. As expected lots of blank stares and "I don't know". I find some windows that will fit but I may need to do some extra work. I may have about an extra 3/4" - 1' of space on the sides that I would need to take care of. The Menards salesman points me in the general direction for the materials that I need to flash the window and then disappears. I have more questions but he's nowhere to be found. Then comes the announcment that the store is closing in 10 minutes. Out of frustration I just leave. I'll do some more research on the windows that I may buy and have another go tomorrow.
