Feeling a little down I decided to walk to the post box for some fresh air. To my pleasant surprise, I received a thoughtful package from Spain!

This little gift of kindness lifted my spirits and reminded me of the lovely friendships we have here on Flickr.

I'm a little slow right now but will catch up over time ;D

Drive In! ... if you can

I liked how the jackal blended in with the autumn colours (even though it was spring in Kruger).

"Habitat: Coyotes live in North and South America, while jackals live in Africa

Size: Coyotes are generally larger than jackals, with an average weight of 20-50 pounds compared to the jackal's 15-35 pounds.

Diet: Coyotes are opportunistic omnivores, eating both plants and animals, while jackals are primarily carnivorous, feeding on small mammals, birds, and insects."

Here I just caught the attention of a coyote peeking across the road to see if it was okay for him to cross.

Aesop's Fable - The Hare With Many Friends

A Hare was very popular with the other animals in the jungle who all claimed to be her friends. One day she heard the hounds approaching her and hoped to escape them by the aid of her Friends. So, she went to the horse, and asked him to carry her away from the hounds on his back. But he declined, stating that he had important work to do for his master. "He felt sure," he said, "that all her other friends would come to her assistance." She then applied to the bull, and hoped that he would repel the hounds with his horns. The bull replied: "I am very sorry, but I have an appointment with a lady; but I feel sure that our friend the goat will do what you want." The goat, however, feared that his back might do her some harm if he took her upon it. The ram, he felt sure, was the proper friend to ask for help. So she went to the ram and told him the case. The ram replied: "Another time, my dear friend. I do not like to interfere on the present occasion, as hounds have been known to eat sheep as well as hares." The Hare then applied, as a last hope, to the calf, who regretted that he was unable to help her, as he did not like to take the responsibility upon himself, as so many older persons than himself had declined the task. By this time the hounds were quite near, and the Hare took to her heels and luckily escaped.

Moral of the story :

He that has many friends, has no friends.

Portrait of Malak Lunsford II, 2023, by Kehinde Wiley, Broad Museum, LA, CA.

While we see Coyotes in the Phoenix area with some frequency, I’m always thrilled to see them. Check this guy out. He looks very lean and fit. This is definitely a boy (he’s got daddy parts) but we didn’t see a female with him. Maybe a youngster. This is rather heavily cropped, but still, I always love seeing the coyotes.

Wiley is a member of the X-Boiz and has the power of super speed. In his free time, he likes to go skateboarding at the skate park that's close to Somerset Academy. Gets distracted easily, unless he has his headphones on.

An old barn in the Ozark Mountains of northern Arkansas.

Took this shot (in town) with my 24-240mm fully zoomed. The coyote was over 100 meters out. So this is a heavy crop. Still had enough detail that I wanted to share it. The coyote seems to be healthy and looks to be growing a thick coat in anticipation of winter.

this lovely person has a birthday today!! it’s been too long since Wiley and I were in the same place (Colorado, Nov 2024), but can’t wait until we are again — and hope you have an amazing birthday today!!! 🎂🎉❤️

There are a few highlights to see when you're driving north on Hwy. 65 out of Conway. First is the inherent silliness of the name of Pickles Gap (I mean, what is the dill with it?). Then there is the dramatic excitement of the runaway truck ramp. After that, as you begin to approach the Leslie metro area, you can see the iconic red barn at Wileys Cove. The barn is scenically situated along a hillside, with a blanket of trees behind it.
