A glorious garden display of tulips and polyanthus flowers in Whitehall Gardens which adjoins the Victoria Embankment beside the River Thames in London.
Part of Epping Forest. As I post this, we are in a bit of a heatwave and this would be great to walk in right now!
The train from the previous image makes the return trip through Jefferson River Canyon to Whitehall with an additional cut of coal gondolas to be stored on the 7th sub the following day. This was taken along the lesser-accessible, and lesser-photographed portion of the canyon between hi way 6 and Sappington.
Built in 1858 and rebuilt in 1882 the 108 foot Burr Truss covered wooden bridge over the Jordan Creek in South Whitehall is in Lehigh Valley Pennsylvania. The Manasses Guth Bridge was the third covered bridge that my sweet west coast damsel went to on that day during out outing in Lehigh Valley in the fall of last year. My damsel and I walked up to the bridge which was closed to traffic late in the afternoon when I took this lovely image of the span.

The southern trestle or footing of the Wehr’s Covered Bridge that crossed the Jordan Creek in South Whitehall Pennsylvania a suburb of Allentown Pennsylvania. Built in 1841, the Wehr Covered Bridge is a 117 foot, 3 span Burr Truss bridge and is now incorporated as part of Covered Bridge Park which was added to National Register of Historic places in 1980. So why were so many covered bridges and barns for that matter painted red like this one? Well the original paint used across the nation in late nineteen and early twentieth century were actually cheap linseed oil with iron oxide (ferrous oxide) which is red in color. Ferrous oxide is also a strong fungicide that prevented mold from forming on the moist exteriors in spring & summer. Pennsylvania the Keystone State is home to over 200 covered bridges. A mile or so north of the lonely length of Highway 2 that glides over the Waterville Plateau lies this former residence of Ms. & Mrs A.C. Whitehall. At least I assume it was theirs . . . since those were the names on the 1981-postmarked letters on top of a stack of mail inside the house.
It is one of many rural abandonments lurking in eastern Washington, and one of the better preserved ones - evidenced by the fact that the upper floor is lit (having required me to climb the stairs).
BNSF's Logan Local with MRL 404 - BNSF 2749 and five covered hoppers from a transload customer in Whitehall runs along the scenic Fifth Subdivision, paralleling a portion of Montana Highway 2 on the southern edge of Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park.
