On 6 July 2005, London won its bid to host the 2012 Olympics. The capital celebrated, into the evening.
This is my picture story... it started on 6 July. After work, I took my mobile phone, a k700i, for an evening wander around Trafalgar Square. The following evening I returned, retracing my steps, retaking some of the images.
I didn't know it when I took this photo, but it turned out that the next day, 7 July, was to be a very different one.
I have made a set, starting with this image and with the same title as this shot: 'What a difference a day makes' Probably best to view it as a slideshow, although there are comments throughout, because it's really a narrative.
The pictures, taken on my mobile, are a kind of tale... my story... over those two days in July 2005.
This particular photo, taken in the late evening light of 6/7/2005, was the eve of 7/7... I nearly deleted it... the timing is one of those flukes... but perhaps it's a symbol of hope.
We had a lot of snow last night and today.........though my school was open :-(
I managed a quick walk up the lane at the back of my house before setting off for work.....we are closed tomorrow, YES......... !!!!
So the photo above is this morning, Wednesday.
below was Monday morning.......what a difference.
I hope if you have been effected by this bad weather that you are keeping wrapped up warm and staying safe.
Again this was this mornings view on Wednesday 6th January....
and below as it was on Monday 4th January....
I spent a little while tidying up in my garden yesterday, as the snow and all the left over bird seed made a bit of a mess........It was good to see that my bulbs are all starting to grow, so hopefully in the spring I'll have some nice colour. I've planted iris, tulips, grape hyacinths and more daffodils.
I think snow makes it look a lot nicer, see below....
Another : what a difference a few days make, in this case 4 days :-)
This is how street art can look like when it is official. There are even flyers at the tourist office about this exhibition. The biggest problem is that I can only see them when craning my neck, or else look at them from afar, and then I can't really appreciate the colourful designs, can't focus at this distance. Oh well, the photos made them more accessible, that is true.
They go all along this pedestrian street in Wil, during this event. I think I would prefer this on a lower level, even on a wall, to tell you the truth. I just remembered a painter I knew long ago who told me he aimed to paint transparentness, the diaphanous nature of these banners seem slightly reminiscent of this.
...a dye makes!
It took me more than 60 shots to get my shoes and my hair
in the same picture. Without a camel toe, anyhow.
Tonight is Willy Porter at the Ram's Head, and I'm psyched to
see more music—and to have the first beer since Sunday.
Those who know me know that I loves me some ale, but
I've given it up during the week for a good cause: waist
reduction. So far so good.

This shot was taken just under two years ago at Thornton Reservoir. This show the wier which is in a recent shot posted. As you can see here the reservoir is very full and the water is flowing over the centre of the wier.
Thank you for looking and for any comments you may leave.
Tube wasn't working - but I needed to get to White City - so I started walking, trying to find the right bus. I'd taken a picture of a London2012 flag just near this bus stop the evening before... I wondered why the queues...

London, the morning of 7 July 2005, before it became clear why the tube wasn't working; why there were no buses; why there were sirens. Still trying to get to White City at this point (I ended up back in the Strand).
I thought I was taking a last couple of photos - a bookend - for my mobile picture story about London's winning bid...
I wasn't.
This was a new story. But it was also part of the same story... a story about London which ran over two days in July.
What a difference a day makes.
Passing by the entrance to the London Underground, in Trafalgar Square. The night before, I'd taken a photo of happy crowds here.
12 hours later, not so happy - but at this stage, it all still just seemed to be about a powercut on the tube...
A much quieter and emptier Trafalgar Square on 7 July 2005, than it had been the evening before, when London had won the 2012 Olympics
Charing Cross, 6 July 2005. BBC records the moment, earlier that day, when nearby Trafalgar Square and the world watched and waited
