A Northern Plains Red Fox (Vulpes fulva) pup sits at the edge of its den awaiting the return of one of the adults with some food for it and its siblings. The den was located in a pasture on the edge of the boreal woods north of Thorhild, Alberta Canada.

"The distinctive and famous Rye Mill is a grade-two listed building and has been the inspiration for artists and photographers throughout the centuries. It occupies an historic site in Gibbet’s Marsh where a windmill has stood, in one form or another, since at least the sixteenth century. The Symondons map of Rye created in 1596 shows an illustration of a windmill in the exact spot where today’s mill now stands. Copies can be seen in Rye Town Hall"
It is now a guesthouse offering bed & breakfast.

Das Lighthouse steht für eine visionäre, innovative und weltweit einzigartige Wohnform, ein Wohnerlebnis in der Höhe mit 360° Panorama-Aussicht. Um dies erlebbar zu machen, wurde in besonderer Lage auf der Spitze des Baakenhöfts in der Hamburger HafenCity der Prototyp „Lighthouse Zero“ als Präsentationsobjekt mit vollständiger Inneneinrichtung errichtet. Zentrales Element des Lighthouse ist ein über 20 Meter hoher Turm, auf dem die Wohnebene ruht. Von hier aus bietet sich dem Bewohner eine einzigartige Aussicht in alle Himmelsrichtungen. Ein gläserner Aufzug und eine im Betonschaft versteckte Treppe erschließen die Wohnebene.
Der Wohnraum lässt sich um den Kern herum vollkommen frei gestalten: Ob Loft-artig offen oder mit einzelnen Räumen, das neuartige Wohnkonzept bietet in jedem Bereich einen hohen Grad an Individualisierung. Auf dem Dach befindet sich der 150 Quadratmeter große Dachgarten mit Holzdeck eingefasst von einer in die Dachflächen eingelassenen 70 Quadratmeter großen Photovoltaikanlage. Die besondere Architektur einer 300 Quadratmeter großen Wohnplattform auf einem Schaft von nur drei Metern Durchmesser bietet nicht nur eine phänomenale Aussicht und ein großzügiges Platzangebot, sondern sorgt auch für minimalen Grundflächenbedarf und dadurch für geringste Flächenversiegelung. So wird der Bau auch in schwierigem Gelände wie im oder am Wasser, in hochwassergefährdeten Gebieten oder in ausgeprägten Hanglagen, wo eine Erschließung durch klassische Bebauung nicht denkbar ist, möglich.

Despite the mixed bag of weather we've been getting lately - and a general feeling that the bird migration has been slowed by the cold nights and a couple of surprise snowfalls - there's no doubt that the spring resurgence of life on the northern prairie is underway. Therefore, over the next few days, we'll look at some signs of spring in and around Grasslands NP.
First up, this Black-tailed Prairie Dog with a mouthful of dried grass. The little rodents have been foraging now for several weeks, replacing fat reserves lost over the winter. I've watched them digging roots and clipping last year's grass, but recently they've been adding a little fresh salad to their diet.
Endless entertainment for a photographer visiting dogtown...

“New Worke“ began life as a hunting lodge in the mid 1500s. It was built by the courtier, Sir Nicholas Poyntz, using medieval stones from a nearby dissolved abbey. This was never his family home but he used it as an impressive place for lavish entertaining.
Over the next 400 years, the house was expanded and remodelled a number of times. A succession of families made their home in what is now Newark Park. The most significant building phase was undertaken in the 1790s by the Reverend Lewis Clutterbuck using the architect, James Wyatt.
The Clutterbuck family continued to own Newark Park – although for 50 years it was leased to the King Family. Three generations later, Catherine Annie Power-Clutterbuck left the estate to the National Trust in 1949.
By 1970, the estate was in need of some restoration. An American architect, Bob Parsons, leased it from the National Trust and spent almost 30 years taming the grounds and returning the house to a home. Once again, it became a place known for its hospitality.
The estate has some lovely walks through the woodlands, well worth a visit. As yet we have not been inside the house, keeping that for a rainy day!
