Geraldton wax ( Chamelaucium uncinatum) is a beautiful flowering Australian native shrub that brings colour to gardens from late winter to spring. As the common name suggests, Geraldton wax comes from Western Australia.

Geraldton (often informally abbreviated to Gero) is a coastal city in the Mid West region of the Australian state of Western Australia, 424 kilometres (263 mi) north of the state capital, Perth.

The skinny Waxing Crescent Moon, January 23,2023 at about 6:15 this evening. The sun was just far enough below the horizon that the sky was a deep purple for the exposure values I had set. Two shot composite so I could get the moon and the tree in focus at the same time.

Of the 51 species of wax cap growing in the UK 25 have been found growing at Llanerchaeron (NT), Ceredigion, West Wales. This might be a Scarlet Wax Cap (Hygrocybe coccinea) but it might not be - I am not an expert!

Peacock sunning in the morning light
Browsing the grass, preening, browsing some more
Spectacular feathers kept immaculate
Wax on... Wax off...
Peafowl wander freely at the Brookfield Zoo, seemingly unconcerned with the various admirers. Such amazing colors!
I know peacock colors are kind of cliche, but I really like the lines that the peacock's head/neck make with the spectacular feathers.
A bonus on this sunset was enjoying the moon rise over the mountains. I had not planned to shoot but turned my camera for a quick shot.
In the foreground are seafoam and traces of salt, but mostly seafoam from the previous days' winds.
The moon was 95.28% visible - to get a more dramatic shot, a much longer lens would be needed. Visually the moon is only half a degree; a 400-600mm would give a much larger and more dramatic moon.
The Great Salt Lake - GPS is not the exact spot of the shot.

Malvaviscus is distinguished by having auriculate petals and red, fleshy fruits. The generic name is referring to the mucilaginous sap produced by members of the genus. The fruit can be used to make jelly or syrup. Both the fruit and flowers are used to make herbal teas.

Geraldton Wax endemic to Geraldton city in the mid west region of Western Australia. I’m surprised to find a few flowers still on the bush.
Waxing gibbous moon (68.4% illumination) seen from Sapporo.
Note the favourable eastern libration: Mare Crisium is quite far away from the eastern (right) limb, Mare Marginis and Mare Smythii are visible near the limb (in ~2 o'clock and 2:30 position, respectively).
