The Wadden Sea of ​​the North Sea is a tidal area, about 11,500 km² in size, about 500 km long and up to 40 km wide between Skallingen, Denmark, in the north-east and Den Helder, Netherlands, in the south-west. The bottom of the North Sea that is exposed at low tide is called mud flats. It is the largest wadden sea in the world.
Juist is one of seven East Frisian Islands at the edge of the German Wadden Sea in the southern North Sea. The Low German pet name Töwerland translates as magic land.
The Wadden Sea lies on the south coast of the island. Large areas of a Wadden Sea regularly dry out twice a day during low tide and are flooded during high tide.
