A welcome spring rain falls in Watertown, as Canadian Pacific's empty GPS ballast train rolls down the yard lead (formerly main track 2), heading for Wisconsin & Southern's Watertown sub. Once authority is granted by the WSOR dispatcher, the empty ballast train will head west about ten miles to the Michels quarry, where the sixty empties will be loaded.

C&NW RSD4 No. 1517 is bringing the Watertown Local north at 10 mph near Castlewood, S.D. on Oct. 23, 1976. This branch is long gone of course, as is the 1517.

The sun has just risen over the hills of central Tennessee as NE-01 passes through Watertown with empties for Carthage.
Tennessee Central Railway Museum’s "L&N 819" leads an excursion across Beech Log Creek as it departs Watertown, TN, on its return trip to Nashville on March 25, 2023. The 819 is a former B&LE unit, but it certainly looks nice in L&N blue and cream. This view was just recently opened up, courtesy of some sort of maintenance or utility work which has resulted in several trees being removed.
G67's conductor walks the brake test on the Watertown Patrol in the Watertown yard, as the cool March sun does it's best to illuminate the scene.

The early March air is chilly, as thirty nine year old Soo Line GP40 4601, leads Canadian Pacific's local G67 at the yard in Watertown. The General Motors locomotive was built in March 1967 for the Soo Line, as their 733.

The windchill is -22F as Amtrak's eastbound Empire Builder blasts thru a snow bank approaching Watertown, Wisconsin on January 29, 2019. Today's (Jan. 30) actual temperature is -27F with a -49F windchill.
BNSF's Watertown local departs Watertown, SD bound for Wilmar, MN with an SD60M and SD40-2, both still in their Burlington Northern paint scheme. Always nice to see green units still roaming around these days.
Canadian Pacific's G64 is departing Watertown over Wisconsin & Southern's Watertown Sub, heading for the Waterloo quarry with empty ballast cars, as the sky opens up and does a fine dump of liquid precipitation.

Louisville and Nashville 405, a GP7 leads 2 F7Bs, and an E8A as it gets ready to head back to Nashville.
BNSF 1616 leads 2 other EMDs and 3 big GEs on the Watertown Local as it takes a slight curve outside of Kerkhoven. The 3 GE road units are likely headed out to pick up an ethanol at Watertown. Due to a 1230 on duty time, this run ran in great fall afternoon lighting
Naugatuck 2203 departs Waterbury at Watertown, Jct with empties interchanged from the Berkshire & Eastern.
CP 6261 on point of 281 with a beautiful sounding horn to compliment the relatively new paint, is accompanied by a GP20ECO and an SD40-3. The sound of 710s and a 645 is music to the ears as she accelerates out of Watertown.

A few minutes after sunrise, BNSF's Watertown Local heads east out of its namesake with a pair of H1 Geeps. Couldn't have asked for nicer power than the 2292 and 2266, but the short train, early morning call time, and clouds by South Shore left a few shots on the table for next time. Still was a fun chase.

TCRM 6902 leads the pack of hodge podge motors as Tennessee Central's 2020 Fall Foliage Special nears Watertown, TN. Not knowing it at the time, this would be 6902's final fall trip before being sold off, and one of its final trips at TCRM in general.

This is a sculpture done by a man from Ithaca, NY. It's in the Salmon Run Mall in Watertown, NY. There are billiard balls that make things spin and make noises as they flow through the structure.
Looking north along the Union Pacific at Watertown, Wisconsin where this distant semaphore signal for the UP-CP diamond stands. This signal has been on my list of photo targets for a while. It was fun to find!
