The Wilhelminakade in Rotterdam. This is the spot where the cruises from Rotterdam depart and the home spot of the Holland Amerika line (HAL).At the moment of this picture moment it was an empty, rainy Wilhelminakade, but the sunset and combination with the reflections and wet tiles made the picture worth uploading.

The city of Oxnard is home to over 20 miles (32 km) of scenic, relatively uncrowded coastline. The beaches in Oxnard are large and the sand is exceptionally soft. The sand dunes in Oxnard, which were once much more extensive, have been used to recreate Middle-Eastern desert dunes in many movies, the first being The Sheik with Rudolph Valentino. There are very few rocks or driftwood piles at most beaches, but Oxnard is known to have dangerous rip-currents at certain beaches. Oxnard is home to world-class surf at most of its beaches.
Oxnard's Beaches extend for 5 miles along the city's oceanfront, from Mandalay Beach in the north to Silver Strand Beach in the south. The continuous stretch of sand is only interrupted by the mouth of Channel Islands Harbor. The beaches are known for their sunshine, mild surf, cleanliness and easy access.

One of the most amazing structures we've come across in all of our travels is the Aqueduto das Águas Livres in Lisbon, Portugal. Built from 1731 to 1799, it is a vast system for collecting and transporting water using gravity. In total, the Águas Livres Aqueduct system, inside and outside of Lisbon, was about 58 km long in the mid-19th century. Its waters were no longer used for human consumption as of the 1960’s. It's most eye-catching section consisting of 35 arches in all and covering a length of 941 meters is this 65.3 meter high by 28.9 meter wide line of arches over the Alcantara Valley.

The history of Rotterdam is most of all found in its boats in the harbours and other waters.
In the centre you can see the boat Geertruida.
In 1906, the 'Geertruida' slides off the slipway at the Gebroeders Boot in Leiderdorp. She is named after the wife of owner and skipper Hendricus Johannes Maas. The ship is mainly used to transport building materials to Brussels. The 'Geertruida' regularly ships sand, stone and gravel to the Belgian capital. The first 50 years, the ship is towed by tugboats. Later, the 'Geertruida' is given an engine with which it sails under its own power to Belgium, but also regularly to Germany.

Kamelen voor korte tijd 25 kilometer per uur kunnen rennen en 30-40 kilometer per dag lopen.
Kamelen zijn de enige landzoogdieren welke zout water kunnen drinken.
Kamelen kunnen in één drinkbeurt van enkele minuten wel 120 liter water op.
Kamelen slaan dit water niet op in hun bulten, maar verdelen dit over hun lichaam, watertransport door het lichaam vindt plaats in gelijke vorm, als bij kamelen de ovale rode bloedcellen (alleen bij kamelen voorkomend).
Kamelen hebben dan ook, na ca. drie dagen niet meer gedronken te hebben, weinig, tot geen vocht meer in de maag. Toch kunnen ze het vervolgens nog enkele weken volhouden zonder te drinken, en tot 25% lichaamsgewicht aan vocht verliezen zonder dat hun lichaamsconditie verslechterd.
De bulten van de kameel bevatten vetreserves. Deze bulten beschermen de kameel gelijk tegen overmatige hitte en bij extreme koude houdt het de warmte in het lichaam beter vast.
Bij voedselschaarste, wanneer de kameel teert op het vet in de bult, gaan de bulten naar een kant hangen.
Kamelen kunnen hun neusgaten afsluiten. Daarmee voorkomen ze dat er bij zand- en sneeuwstormen iets in de neus komt.
Kamelen hebben drie oogleden om hun ogen te beschermen van het zand die af en toe in de ogen word geblazen.

Gol talab (round pond) Gol Talab or Gol Pukur is located right next to Ahsan Manzil in Islampur, Old Dhaka. Locals used to call this pond as “Nawab Bari Pushkuni”. There are buildings around this huge round pond. From the top of the building you can enjoy the beauty of the pond as well as the beauty of the Buriganga River. Besides, you will also see the dome of Ahsan Manzil. Nawab Abdul Bari dug this pond in 1886 and because of this the locals called the pond as "Nawab Abdul Bari Pond". The picturesque pond looks more attractive from above. Presently “Maulvi Khawaja Abdullah Welfare Trust” is looking after the pond. Anyone can bathe in this pond for a fixed fee. You can also bring shorts to view the pond and actually take a bath. The price charged for bathing in the pond is not too high. how to go You can take a bus from anywhere in Dhaka to Ahsan Manzil in Old Dhaka, near which this pond is located.

পুরান ঢাকার ইসলামপুরে আহসান মঞ্জিলের ঠিক পাশেই গোল তালাব অথবা গোল পুকুর অবস্থিত। তালাব উর্দু শব্দ, যার অর্থ জলাধার । ১৬১০ সালে নবাব আব্দুল বারি এই পুকুরটি খনন করান । স্থানীয়রা এই পুকুরটিকে “নবাব বাড়ি পুশকুনি” নামে সম্বোধন করতো। গোলাকার এই বিশাল পুকুরটির চারপাশে দালান কোঠা রয়েছে। শত ঝড়-ঝাপটা সহ্য করে উনিশ শতকে খনন করা পুকুরটি আজও টিকে আছে গৌরব আর ঐতিহ্যের প্রতীক হিসেবে। বর্তমানে পুকুর ঘিরে আবর্তিত হচ্ছে এই এলাকার হাজারো মানুষের কর্মব্যস্ততা, বসত-বাণিজ্য। চতুর্দিকে দাঁড়িয়ে থাকা ইট-কংক্রিটের স্তূপের মাঝে এই পুকুর যেন একখ-কোমল স্নিগ্ধতা।
বুড়িগঙ্গার দক্ষিণে ও উত্তরে নবাববাড়ী রেখে পূর্ব-পশ্চিমে রয়েছে একাধিক মার্কেট। যার মধ্যে প্রায় পাঁচশ’ বছরের ঐতিহ্য নিয়ে অবস্থান করছে গোলপুকুর। সময়ের বাঁকে বাঁকে নানা রূপ উত্থান-পতনের সাক্ষী এই পুকুর। পুকুরের চারিপাশ ঘিরে আছে প্রায় ৫০ টি নারিকেল গাছ । এবং সব গাছ একই উচ্চতার ।
খোঁজ নিয়ে জানা গেছে, ইসলামপুর এলাকার এ পুকুরটির উৎপত্তি মূলত ছোট একটি জলাশয় থেকে। আনুমানিক ১৬১০ সালে মোগল শাসকদের প্রতিনিধি ইসলাম খাঁ সুবাদার হিসেবে ঢাকায় আসেন। তিনি প্রথমে বর্তমান ইসলামপুর এলাকায় আসেন। ফলে তার নামানুসারে এলাকাটির নামকরণ হয় ইসলামপুর। সুবাদার ইসলাম খাঁ আসার আগে পুরান ঢাকার বাংলাবাজার মিটফোর্ডের বিশাল এলাকায় বাস করতেন কুমার সম্প্রদায়ের লোক। কুমাররা মাটি দিয়ে তৈরি করেন বিভিন্ন সামগ্রী। তাদের প্রয়োজনে ইসলামপুরের এ স্থান থেকে মাটি নেয়া হতো। মাটি কাটতে কাটতে এক পর্যায়ে সৃষ্টি হয় ছোট আকারের গর্তের। এ গর্ত পরবর্তী সময়ে রূপ নেয় জলাশয়ে।
তখন জমিদার মোগল শেখ এনায়েত উল্লাহ তার বাগানবাড়িতে এটিকে জলাশয় হিসেবে ব্যবহার করতেন। এরপর ১৭০০ সালে লুইস নামে এক ফরাসি ব্যবসায়ী এসে বাণিজ্য কুঠি তৈরি করেন এবং তার নামানুসারে এর নাম হয় ‘লুইসের জলা’। ১৮৩০ সালে নবাব খাজা আলিম উল্লাহ কুঠিসহ জলাশয়টি কিনে নেন। এরপর জলাশয়টি সংস্কার করে পুকুরে পরিণত করা হয়। বৃত্তাকারে প্রায় সাড়ে ছয় বিঘা জমির ওপর তৈরি হয় পুকুর। আগে একে ‘গোল তালাব’ নামে ডাকা হতো। তালাব উর্দু শব্দ, যার অর্থ জলাধার। পরে এটি নবাববাড়ির পুকুর নামে স্থানীয়ভাবে পরিচিতি পায়। আর সরকারি গেজেটে এর নাম ‘ইসলামপুরের গোল তালাব’। এটি হচ্ছে গোলপুকুর তৈরির প্রচলিত ইতিহাস। তবে মূল পুকুরটির খননের সময় নিয়ে কিছুটা অস্পষ্টতা রয়েছে। তবে এটি যে উনিশ শতকের তৃতীয় দশকেই খনন করা হয়েছে, সে বিষয়ে কোনো সংশয় নেই।
বর্তমানে “মৌলভী খাজা আবদুল্লাহ ওয়েলফেয়ার ট্রাষ্ট” পুকুরটির দেখাশোনা করছে। নির্ধারিত মূল্যের বিনিময়ে যে কেউ এই পুকুরে গোসল করতে পারে।

I spent two or three minutes, wondering if that big white van on the bridge would move so that I could get a clear picture of a cyclist against the foggy background. That would be much more 'Amsterdam'. But thinking about it, Big White Van is, well, 'Amsterdam' too 😊
Rotterdam , the city of transport over water
As one of the biggest harbours of the world , and divided by the river Nieuwe Maas , Rotterdam has much transport over water, container ships , cruise ships , you name it , they've got it.
This picture was taken from the middle of the Erasmus bridge and as partial skyline one can see , amongst others , De Rotterdam.
