Independence Monument under repair ($15 millions)

Washington DC.

The Washington Monument is an obelisk on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., built to commemorate George Washington, once commander-in-chief of the early Continental Army and the first American president.

The monument, made of marble, granite, and bluestone gneiss,is both the world's tallest stone structure and the world's tallest obelisk, standing 555 feet 5 1⁄8 inches (169.294 m) tall. Taller monumental columns exist, but they are neither all stone nor true obelisks

Interesting to see a net on the top part of the left column.

Inside the Thomas Jefferson Memorial - I found the shades of colors interesting. The two photographers at the bottom left are checking a picture of the statue of Jefferson.

loneliness adds beauty to life.

it puts a special burn on sunsets and makes night air smell better.

It was a beautiful day at the nations capital for the Cherry Blossom Festival. It was also great to meet flickr buddy, Del Higgins! Get down here if you get the opportunity. It's well worth a visit...just get there early! The crowds are crazy.

Our nation's capital certainly has some beautiful old homes. Too bad it is so expensive to live there.

inside the metro station

Florida Ave, DC. Fiddleheads is the right-most building, which is a wedge-shaped building.

Photoshop info in one of the comments below.

The Washington DC Metro looks how the 1970s expected the future to be. But 40 years later that future is here and this living vision of modern transportation is decaying under our feet. Decades of mismanagement have lead to disrepair, proving once again that the biggest challenge we will face in any version of our future remains ourselves.

Mid-March I saw my first Tulip in bloom this Spring in Washington DC. A month later we still have LOTS of them around most every place I visit.

I took a long walk around the Capitol complex last weekend, there were too many tulip plots to count ..... large planters, big and small plots and so many colors.

By the National Mall, Washington DC

North Capitol Street, between V St. NE and Rhode Island, Washington, D.C. I think this is the Brookland neighborhood, but these neighborhood boundaries aren't real well defined yet.
