As winter is coming to a close, I thought it was time to check if there was any snow left on the local rail trails. On this portion of the Trans Canada Trail (KVR) the actual trail is beside the unused tracks and most of it is impassable by bike or walking due to snow and ice. As the weather changes In the next few days, these trails will be very busy with hikers and bikers.

Found predominantly in the tropics and subtropics stick insects thrive in forests and grasslands, where they feed on leaves. Mainly nocturnal creatures, they spend much of their day motionless, hidden under plants.

Many stick insects feign death to thwart predators, and some will shed the occasional limb to escape an enemy’s grasp. Others swipe at predators with their spine-covered legs, while one North American species, Anisomorpha buprestoides, emits a putrid-smelling fluid.

Little is known about stick insects, making it difficult to declare the vulnerability of their status in the wild. The pet trade presents a potential threat, along with the popular practice of framing their carcasses, like butterflies.

Bok Gardens

Bok Tower Gardens boasts one of the greatest works of famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr. The meandering, historic landscape garden was designed to be a contemplative and informal woodland setting offering a series of romantic recesses and tranquil resting spots, picturesque vistas and breathtaking views of the Singing Tower. Acres of ferns, palms, oaks and pines fashion a lush backdrop for flowering foliage and the spectacular seasonal color of azaleas, camellias and magnolias (a highlight of our spring peak bloom season) showcasing an ever-changing work of art.

The walking trail looking toward Trevelgue Head. Trevelgue Head, also known as Porth Island, is a headland north-east of Newquay, Cornwall. As you can imagine, some beautiful views to be had from the top of the hill.

I wonder where it goes? A winding woodland path through Iping Common, Rother Valley, South Downs National Park, West Sussex.

At Frederiksborg Castle (Danish: Frederiksborg Slot).

This royal castle was built in a northern Renaissance style, for the Danish king Christian IV. The main building of the castle was built 1602-1620 (replacing an older structure). For a long time it served as a royal residence.

The castle was almost completely destroyed in a fire 1859. The castle was restored, using old plans and drawings to give it its proper look - with generous donations made by J.C. Jabosen (who made a fortune founding the Carlsberg brewery), to turn it into a National Museum, which it still is to this day.
