Tithonia rotundifolia WW38 Sunflower s3- (Sunflower) Mexican Sunflower Heirloom, Mature plant size: 5ft., 4in. orange flowers, USDA Hardiness Zone HA, Michigan Bloom Month -, In Garden Bed s3 for 128 DAYS (Victory). Planted in 2022.

Victory Seed: This wildflower is native to Mexico and Central America. The plants are erect, can reach six feet in height, has leafy stems with leaves that are large and triangular shaped. They have bright orange flowers that are four inches wide with multiple flower heads per stem. Attractive to bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects.

Prefers well-drained soils in a sunny location. Heat and drought tolerant. Makes a great cut flower and terrific at the back of beds and borders. Thin to 18"

Each packet contains 0.5 gram, which is approximately 45 seeds. 2022note: the one in G2 snapped off, probably due to wind. Seems somewhat brittle. Started seed indoors, 3 seeds per 4" pot. Rather than thin, I planted 3 plants together. Worked really well, tall and very full. The plant(s) in garden G2 blew down in a strong wind. One very small surviver grew back to 3 feet or so.

Swan Island: Bluetiful 6” Blue lavender, some would say periwinkle; blooms are ruffled and fancy-free. This is a very compact and study plant of 3 ½’. Great cut flower and a real eye catcher! As close to blue as you can get with a dahlia. This is a dahlia that all of us here at Swan Island Dahlias grow in our yards - A " Gitts" family favorite! Average sized tubers. Plants in V2 did not do all that well.

Small tubers. Looks really good in garden V1 in 2022.

The Sp[ruce: Four o'clock plants (Mirabilis jalapa) are bushy blooming perennials. These tuberous-rooted plants produce slightly pointed oval leaves on branching stems. They get their common name because of the way they bloom. The flowers open in the late afternoon, typically around 4 p.m. or so, and then remain open until the next morning. The approximately 2-inch-long blooms are trumpet-shaped with five petals, and they come in several colors, often shades of pink and red. Some four o’clock plants produce flowers in multiple colors, sometimes with marbling or other markings. This is a fast-growing plant that often sprawls in the garden. It’s best planted in the spring.

Missouri Botanical Garden: Betula nigra, commonly called river birch, is a vigorous, fast-growing, medium-sized, Missouri native deciduous tree which occurs on floodplains, swampy bottomlands and along streams throughout the State. In cultivation, it can be trained as either a single trunk or multi-trunked tree. As a single trunk tree, it develops a pyramidal habit when young, but matures to a more rounded shape typically growing 40-70' tall. Multi-trunked trees form a more irregular crown and are generally considered to be the superior growth habit for this species. Salmon-pink to reddish brown bark exfoliates to reveal lighter inner bark. Leathery, diamond-shaped, medium to dark green leaves (1.5-3.5" long) with doubly toothed margins turn yellow in fall. Monoecious flowers appear in drooping, brownish male catkins and smaller, upright, greenish female catkins.

Big Box item. Papery bark exposes the gray to red-brown inner bark. All 3 still alive. One on driveway, 3 in back yard. Aka black birch, river birch, water birch.

Rosa 'FLOWER CARPET Scarlet' 9/2021 Rose- () Groundcover Rose, Mature size: 2x3’, Red, USDA Hardiness Zone 4-9, Michigan Bloom Week ISO WW25, In Garden Bed N1,07c for 23 MONTHS (Lowes,). Planted in 2019.

TESSELAAR ROSA FLOWER CARPET SERIES: Flower Carpet® roses – also often referred to as The Carpet Rose® – are the world’s number one ground cover rose. Once established, some varieties can produce an astonishing display of up to 2,000 flowers from spring through to autumn. They’re extraordinarily low maintenance and have exceptional disease resistance. Better still, once established their well-developed root system means they’re drought and low-water tolerant: surface roots take up available surface water while deeper roots access lower level water in drought conditions. Pruning is optional: once a year in late winter or early spring. Grab a pair of garden shears to cut them back by a third any which way. Don’t want to prune, no worries either, they will still flower prolifically on a slighlty larger bush.

Monrovia: This fuss-free rose produces a profusion of brilliant, scarlet red flowers. Blooms from spring through fall - up to ten months in warm climates. Glossy, dark green foliage is mildew and black spot resistant. Highly adaptable, an excellent choice for borders, pots, and hanging baskets. Stunning when massed as a groundcover. Deciduous.
