An unseasonably warn autumn so far, but now our herons seem to be leaving with the other snow birds for warmer climes south. . .
I did a nice walk at Ipswich River wildlife sanctuary yesterday, and for once the waterfowl trail was not under water, or even particularly muddy. As usual, the stonebridge was standing out and "summer was all around". The lady at the entrance warned me it might be a bit buggy - no kidding! 😆

Tornado warned supercell NW of Springfield, IL 05/03/21. Severe thunderstorm became tornado warned in Cass County around 4:30 pm went through 3 more counties to the east. (My favorite shots of the storm)

When night begins to replace day a guardian of the seas stands ready to warn ships of danger. It is not yet time to switch on the lighthouse beam so the crew enjoy a cup of tea and a biscuit although more than likely it'll be a beer to get them through the long night ahead, a game of cards and a quick smoke out of the wind 😉

Once a year (but be warned: according to the Balinese calendar!) young people meets and - after a very joyous body-painting - they walk through dozens of villages - where all the people is expecting them. Why?They parade, singing, shouting, playing. Addressed to the whole Universe: "This is our land! Evil Spirits away from here!"Through rice fields, forests and rivers. For hours and miles. They stop every once in a temple and pray.

You would say: "folklore" - "primitivism."But better to know that in Bali, the first day of the year (again according to the Balinese calendar!) three indications are strictly complied with:- no fire - no walking - no working plus one:- Silence.
And, for 24 hours, the streets are deserted, no flights in or out!, all the families at home.
Why? There's an explanation: this is the day when the evil spirits are coming flying over the island. They see it deserted ... and they go where humans - taken from their activism - are not realizing what is happening, and let Bad Spirits enter in their villages, in their houses, in their hearts.An example of a very powerful Bad Spirit? Greed!!!
Can you imagine something like in your country? Can you imagine the power of 24 hours of silence… 24 hours with no TV, no Internet, no cars, no work, no planes, no politicians, no advertising, no newspapers, no thieves (in every village, for some urgencies you are authorized to move, of course, but a self-organized village guards pay attention to movements from special places called Bale – a rotten-built small house you can see in every village).
Look at their faces, look at the beauty of being aware of the personal and collective responsibility to be free!To guarantee a balance between taking and giving - with the environment and among men - is the key of the Balinese spirituality in every day life.That's why they smile and look at you in the eyes every time they meet another human being.
PS: "Thank you" in Indonesian is "Terima Kasih" - they say in Dictionaries. But the true translation is: "To Give, To Receive"
Meols Beach. Last image of the evening as I noticed the middle channel beginning to fill. I was maybe 300m from the sea wall and comfortably got back. I was warned about this earlier in the day so was extra careful.
I don't know the beach too well so made sure I had plenty of time and sat watching the sunset having a coffee as the tide came in. I'm glad I did because the speed it came in was an eye opener.
If you were stood here it'd look like you had all the time in the world but it went from looking like this to being completely covered in less than five minutes and the channel closest to the sea wall fills before this sand bank is covered so I can see how easy it would be to get cut off.
The hair is Raven Bell from the Crystal Heart event - it's amazing, it's animated, it took me hours to decide on which pose to use, it's addictive, you have been warned, carry on.
...But girl, let me warn ya?

Its been a couple of days since many parts of my community were under mandatory fire-safety evacuation.
Fires start in the mountain canyons (in the background) and Santa Ana Winds push the flames west toward the Pacific Ocean. If you happen to be in between, bad things can happen.
The Santa Ana winds are strong, extremely dry downslope winds that originate inland and affect coastal Southern California and northern Baja California. They originate from cool, dry high-pressure air masses in the Great Basin.
Santa Ana winds are known for the hot, dry weather that they bring in autumn (often the hottest of the year), but they can also arise at other times of the year. They often bring the lowest relative humidity of the year to coastal Southern California. The low humidity, combined with the warm air mass, plus high wind speeds, create critical fire weather conditions. Also sometimes called "devil winds", the Santa Anas are infamous for fanning regional wildfires.

I warned you that I would be back to my usual trifle after my brief excursion into surfing photography. :)
This is labelled in Flickr's mapbox as being taken at Praia das Maçãs which is about a half a kilometer north of Praia Grande. The photo was taken at the Arribas Sintra Hotel at Praia Grande and if you open the Mapbox the location is correct even if the label is wrong. It's a Flickr thing and not the gps in my mobile phone which connects to my camera and automatically embeds the location information into the file thanks to Sony's 'Imaging Edge' software.

We were warned that half way around the lake walk, the bridge was out, it had been swept away a few days ago. If the river was still too high we would have to return the way we came. Our guide assessed that we could cross safely. We all crossed safely, although one person unfortunately stood in the water, while the rest of us used the rocks as stepping stones.
You can see the broken bridge washed into the lake.
A very chase worthy severe warned thunderstorm. Another fun storm to watch go through many cycles. I liked this shot of the chase truck about to be in the thick of things!
In 2017 bestelde Arriva bij het Zwitserse Stadler 18 treinstellen van het nieuwe type WINK (Wandelbarer Innovativer Naverkers-Kurzzug) voor de nieuwe concessie in het noorden die loopt in de periode 2020-2035.
De eerste planning was dat de stellen per december 2020 ingezet gingen worden met de start van de nieuwe concessie, maar door het huidige crisis liep de aflevering en opleiding vertraging op. Hierdoor werd de startdatum verlegd naar 12 april 2021.
Vanaf die datum zijn de stellen ingestroomd en doen ze vanuit Leeuwarden dienst naar Sneek/Stavoren, Harlingen en op enkele ritten ook naar Groningen.
Op de zonovergoten zaterdag 17 april 2021 werd vroeg van huis vertrokken met een strakke planning om de nieuwkomers te fotograferen, als eerste op de lijn naar Stavoren.
Doordat ik een strakke planning had gemaakt waar ik iedere rit ging fotograferen had ik twee mogelijkheden om bij Warns een foto te maken van de WINK bij de bekende boerderij.
Nadat ik een uur eerder een foto van een lager standpunt had genomen wilde ik toch nog eens wat verder de hoogte in. Dus de ladder werd tegen een lantaarnpaal gezet en het wachten kon beginnen.
De vertrektijd vanuit het verderop gelegen Stavoren werd goed in de gaten gehouden. De filmcamera werd al gestart om mezelf de gelegenheid te geven om rustig naar boven te klimmen.
Zo'n 30 seconden voor de passage van de trein kwam er spontaan ineens een kleine wolk voor de zon dus het werd nog even spannend, maar gelukkig ging het goed!
Arriva WINK 617 "De Slachte" is zojuist uit Stavoren vertrokken als RS3 37144 naar Leeuwarden. Even verderop zal de eerste halte al aangedaan worden, dit is Koudum-Molkwerum.

Jasper sometimes spends an evening down at the Old Kennel Klub. We've warned him that the place seems a bit stuffy and pretentious, but he insists that its not. Yes, they have a dress code and yes, they only serve the finest water, but at the core the members are just a bunch of good dogs. I saw Jasper tip his waiter a big bone so I know he treats the staff well.
Arriva Nederland put its new WINK MU's into service in April 2021. On the line Leeuwarden - Stavoren they run the entire train service. WINK MU 614 hshortly after departing Stavoren, near Warns on its way to Leeuwarden.

What with Christmas and now the lockdown I’ve just lost track of the days, so here is a #wavewednesday on Thursday. I was freezing this morning walking the dogs at half five, one of the coldest this winter, but I was more numb with the events in the US. This was always going to happen so I shouldn’t of been shocked, but when it did it still knocks you back. It’s about the only thing that took my mind away from the grim virus situation we are in at the moment. This is what happens when you preach diversity, and spin lie after lie. Be warned Britain don’t think this can’t happen here. #bekind #besafe
This is a scenario we encountered about thrice during our travel through and along Iceland. I find it ever so sense-making to block a dangerous road and warn people about the consequences if they ignore the warning. In our countries there are way too many irresponsible people out there doing stupid stuff expecting society to come to their rescue when the f***ed up deliberately.
