Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. Fishing cat populations are threatened by destruction of wetlands and numbers have declined in the last decade.The fishing cat lives in the vicinity of wetlands, rivers, streams, oxbow lakes, swamps and mangroves.

Secretary bird (Sagittarius serpentarius), a large and mostly terrestrial bird of prey endemic to Africa. Its taxonomic name, Sagittarius serpentarius, means “the archer of snakes” and it is famous for its snake-hunting abilities. San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Conservation status: vulnerable
The larva of the midge fly are the familiar looking red bloodworm that live on the bottom of rivers and lakes. When the pupa float to the surface this is when the adult midge fly hatches out. The newly emerged midge fly seen here is waiting for its body to harden before flying off to mate as this is when the adults are at their most vulnerable stage. In the Antarctic midges are an important food source as it has been said with out the swarms of flies every year there would be far less wildlife as the flies are an important part of the lower food chain, which just goes to show you how important even the small things in nature are.

The Indian rhinoceros is a rhinoceros species native to the Indian subcontinent. It is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, as populations are fragmented and restricted to less than 20,000 km2. Moreover, the extent and quality of the rhino's most important habitat, the alluvial Terai-Duar savanna and grasslands and riverine forest, is considered to be in decline due to human and livestock encroachment. As of August 2018, the global population was estimated to comprise 3,588 individuals, including 2,939 individuals in India and 649 in Nepal. Kaziranga National Park alone had an estimated population of 2,048 rhinos in 2009.
Nearly 85% of the global Indian rhinoceros population is concentrated in Assam, where Kaziranga National Park contains 70% of rhino population. (Wikipedia)

This very large male rhino had just had an altercation with another very large male. He is leaving the scene of the dust-up with a couple of wounds to his shoulder and a couple of Eastern Cattle-Egrets on his back. The ranger that was with us was not concerned with the injury.

Taxi to Brynn Oh's Lobby Cam
A masked lapwing or spur winged plover, Vanellus miles, chick that I think was less than two days old. Unfortunately, the parents did not stay very close to it so I did not get a reasonable photo of the chick and one of its parents together. Its height was less than the height of its parents knees (see next photo). I kept my distance because masked plovers will defend the chicks and they have spurs on their wings with which they could attack.
Masked lapwings do not always choose good places to nest. They have been known to nest on railway tracks. This pair probably nested on the ground in the backyard of a house. They would often go onto quite a busy road and did not stop the chick going onto the road.

Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) feeding on eucalyptus in the Australia Outback habitat of the San Diego Zoo.
Koalas prefer the more nutritious leaves at the top of the trees, usually eating one leaf at a time. Of the nearly 900 species of Eucalyptus in Australia, koalas eat approximately 70.
Conservation status: Vulnerable
I noticed these beautiful golden stalks of wheat in a field close to me so I stopped and took a couple of shots. I liked these random sunflowers sprouting up.
A male Stitchbird or Hihi, a small honeyeater endemic to New Zealand. Once widespread through North Island New Zealand but now only seen at a handful of off-shore islands and ecosanctuaries such as Zealandia. Due to this bird nesting in tree trunks and with the introduction of Europeans and rats/rodents in the 1840s only one remnant off-shore island population remained by the 1990s. A small number of Hihi were relocated to Zealandia in 2005 and Zealandia now has upwards of 100 birds with a further 29 eggs in the current breeding season. The average lifespan is only 3-4 years. The bird remains nationally vulnerable and at serious risk of extinction.

In the Winter, White Squirrels have the advantage ,as they blend in with the snow on the ground and trees. Unfortunately for them, the rest of the year they stand out and are an easy target for prey. ( raptors,foxes,coyotes and domestic dogs)

The red-bellied grackle is endemic to Colombia where it is found in all three Andean ranges at altitudes of 800 to 2,400m (2,600 to 7,900ft) above sea level.
Its natural habitat is tropical forest, but the trees are increasingly being felled for timber and to make way for agriculture, and little virgin forest remains within its range.
H. pyrohypogaster was formerly classified as "endangered" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature but in 2012 the threat level was lowered to "vulnerable". This is on the basis that, although its forest habitat remains under pressure, it has been found at some new locations where it was not known before. The total population is now estimated to be in the range 2,500 to 9,999 individuals.

A Snowy Owl perches on a slight rise in an open snowy field on a winter’s day east of Airdrie, Alberta, Canada. This species is often found on phone poles or fence posts, which are usually not that inspiring for photographs, so this setting felt more natural and akin to the northern tundra where these owls breed in summer.

Global IUCN - Vulnerable - The Hyacinth Macaw is the largest parrot in the world and easily one of the most spectacular. It is an enormous bird weighing on average 1.5 kilograms (3.5 pounds) and is completely blue save its dark bill and bare yellow orbital ring and stripe at base of its lower mandible. It is completely dependent on the fruits of a number of palm species and has a necessarily massive bill to aid in the cracking of the tough exterior. Due to its dependence on palm fruit its range is regulated by the presence and abundance of its preferred species and is distributed in north central and south central Brazil into extreme north west Paraguay where it can be found in palm savannas, Mauritia palm stands, open dry woodland, gallery forest and the edge of humid lowland forest. doi.org/10.2173/bow.hyamac1.01

Vulnerable - An infrequently encountered Brazilian endemic, the Striated Softtail can be found from southern Bahia south to Rio de Janeiro. Restricted-range species: present in Atlantic Forest Lowlands EBA. Population estimated at 2500–10,000 individuals; declining as a result of habitat destruction. Distribution within seemingly favourable habitat seems patchy. Evidently requires areas of dense vine tangles in tracts of tall forest, which have been almost eliminated in much of its range. Populations exist in several protected areas, including Boa Nova, Serra das Lontras, Alto Cariri and Descobrimento National Parks, Sooretama Biological Reserve, Serra Bonita Private Reserve, Una Biological Reserve and Desengano State Park. Considered Vulnerable at the national level in Brazil (1, 2). This one was photographed at Itacaré - Bahia.

This photo was taken on the way to Stuormuorkkegårttje, a beautiful waterfall in the Stora Sjöfallets National Park in Sweden.
Due to the wooden planks the hike is very easy. A further benefit is the protection of the vulnerable arctic fauna.
