on the second floor. You can glimpse its railing through the fronds of the tree fern at the bottom left of the picture.

A new joint operation - called Operation Vortex - has gotten underway today (Wednesday 19 January 2022) in Oldham to crack down on vehicle crime and traffic offences in the district.
The Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit, along with officers from GMP's Safer Transport Team and officers across the Oldham District, worked along the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency at a static base in Chadderton, stopping a number of vehicles either committing traffic offences, or vehicle crime.
Two men arrested, one on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs, and one for driving while disqualified and remain in custody for questioning, ten vehicles have been seized for being driven with no insurance, and one stolen vehicle has been recovered.
In addition, officers also reported 35 traffic offences for a range of driving offences.
Chief Superintendent Mark Dexter from GMP's Specialist Operations said: "This will become a regular operation across Greater Manchester, where we will strive to make our communities and roads safer, tackling illegal vehicles which we know that are all too often used in crime and cause harm and misery on the roads.
"I hope this sends a strong message to anyone thinking of breaking the law on our roads, that we are watching, and we won't hesitate to take action to remove you and your vehicle from the road."
You should call 101, the national non-emergency number, to report crime and other concerns that do not require an emergency response.
Always call 999 in an emergency, such as when a crime is in progress, violence is being used or threatened or where there is danger to life.
You can also call anonymously with information about crime to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Crimestoppers is an independent charity who will not want your name, just your information. Your call will not be traced or recorded and you do not have to go to court or give a statement.

My next door neighbor Brian has cacti in his greenhouse, the regular all over spiky ones and the more leafy variety. It's easy to be fooled by the latter, they may have fewer spikes, but they tend to be bigger & 'spikier'.
When I showed this to my 'Artistic Director' aka my son Charlie, he just said 'vortex'

This Vortex was built - incorporating modifications - from plans by owner Brian Thompson. It has a Triumph Trophy 1200cc engine. Like the original Marcos it has a plywood structure with body panels in fibreglass. The interior is trimmed in leather. Seen at the North Norfolk Car Club's Show n Shine Evening.

Greater Manchester Police’s Lonsight and Ardwick Neighbourhood Policing Team along with officers of the Force’s Specialist Operations Branch combined last Friday (9/7/10) in the latest of the Force’s Vortex Disruption operations.
Vortex Disruption operations see large numbers of officers operating in an area to provide a visible deterrent to those wishing to commit crime and anti-social behaviour.
On this occasion traffic officers conducted ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) checks on vehicles and members of the Force’s Tactical Aid Unit conducted raids on the homes of suspected offenders.
The Force’s Tactical Mounted Unit were also involved as officers as took part in high profile patrols across the area.

~The Vortex Cocktail Ring
This cocktail ring features a beautiful labradorite cabochon with gold and green flash. The ring also has a twisted sterling silver shank, domed base with a surprise pattern on the underside of the ring (in case you are ever looking at your ring upside down!), and more twisted wire around the bezel, and then oxidized in all the right places to create depth and mystery. When looking down on the ring it sucks you in, like a vortex.

I have had a project in mind for while that I knew would take some time to set-up.
I wanted to shoot a pellet through a whirlpool. It did take some time to set-up and the results were not that interesting, but surprising.
I knew that the whirlpool would be stopped in comparison to the pellet, but what I did not anticipate was the shock wave from the pellet hitting the water would "instantly" disrupt the vortex.
So here you go. The pellet is a .22 size, a little larger than my usual .177 pellet.
Also, unlike my usual before/after animation, the whirlpool funnel was constantly changing so it's not a super accurate before/after. But close.
